13Th ITRC Technical Tour Information Sheet
th 13 ITRC Technical Tour Information Sheet Yankee Stadium Yankee Stadium (http://newyork.yankees.mlb.com/nyy/ballpark/) is located in the Bronx (NYC), and is home to the world famous New York Yankees of Major League Baseball (MLB). The NY Yankees are one of the most successful sports clubs/franchises in the world, having won 18 division titles, 40 American League pennants, and 27 World Series championships. Many former players are household names in the United States and around the world including Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Joe DiMaggio, Mickey Mantle, Yogi Berra, and Derek Jeter. The new $2.3 billion Yankee Stadium opened in 2009 approximately one block north of the old Yankee Stadium (the previous site now a public park called Heritage Field). The new stadium incorporates replicas of some of the design elements from the original Yankee Stadium, including the rooftop frieze that was a trademark of the previous stadium, and a “cutout” of the wall behind the bleacher seats that reveals the passing elevated subway trains. Another design element replicated in the new stadium was the placement of Monument Park – an open air museum containing a collection of monuments, plaques, and retired numbers honoring distinguished members of the New York Yankees – behind the fence in straightaway center field. Field dimensions are Left Field 318’, Left Center 399’, Center Field 408’, Right Center 385’, and Right Field 314’; all an exact replication of the dimensions in the old Yankee Stadium. Total seating capacity of the new stadium is 50,287. MLB teams play 81 games a year in their “home” stadiums. -

MLS as a Sports Product – the Prominence of the World’s Game in the U.S. April 8, 2021 Abstract The purpose of this Working Paper is to analyze how soccer at the professional level in the U.S., with Major League Soccer as a focal point, has developed over the span of a quarter of a century. It is worthwhile to examine the growth of MLS from its first game in 1996 to where the league currently stands as a business as it moves past its 25th anniversary. The 1994 World Cup (held in the U.S.) and the subsequent implementation of MLS as a U.S. professional league exerted a major positive influence on soccer participation and fandom in the U.S. Consequently, more importance was placed on soccer in the country’s culture. The research reported here explores the league’s evolution and development through the cohesion existing between its sporting and business development, as well as its performance. -

November 2016 Dear Community Board 3, I am writing to share some helpful background information about the New York City Soccer Initiative, which was announced on July 12, 2016 by Mayor Bill de Blasio, the U.S. Soccer Foundation, New York City Football Club, adidas America Inc., and the Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City. This $3,000,000 first of its kind public-private partnership will build and maintain 50 acrylic mini-soccer fields in underserved neighborhoods across the five boroughs over the next five-years, as well as integrate afterschool programming for as many as 10,000 New York City youth and young adults. In this packet you will find additional information about the NYC Soccer Initiative, partner organizations and agencies as well as FAQ’s and contact information. Please do not hesitate to contact me directly if you have questions. Thank you for your time. Sincerely, Darren Bloch 1 New York City Soccer Program Description The Soccer Initiative is supported by the U.S. Soccer Foundation, New York City Football Club, adidas America, Inc. and the Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City. All four partners pledged to invest a total of $3 million to build and maintain the fields, and provide free programming for children focused on promoting healthy eating habits, active living, and mentorship. In addition to the capital investment, the New York City Football Club will either raise or contribute an additional $600,000 to create a fund to support the repair and maintenance of the fields. These new soccer fields will be essential in keeping our young New Yorkers safe, active and connected with the community. -
