More Than Ready cont. Craig Bernick declined to name his partner on the horse, but said this colt is his first horse. AHe=s been to the races, he=s been to the Derby and to Saratoga, and he decided he wanted to buy a horse,@ Bernick explained. The colt (hip 403) is out of graded stakes placed Trippi Street (Trippi). He was purchased for $225,000 out of last year=s Keeneland September sale and was consigned to yesterday=s sale by M & H Training and Sales. Bernick was making his first trip to the Midlantic sale and he sees advantages to the auction=s late date. ASo I came to watch a horse sell, and then, obviously, I went shopping. I think it=s a good sale. Sometimes you know a little bit more about the horses then you might know in March. Fasig Midlantic Concludes Strong Run The Fasig-Tipton Midlantic 2-Year-Olds in Training sale concluded its two-day run in Timonium Tuesday with figures largely comparable to last year=s strong one-day auction. During two days of selling, 343 juveniles grossed $16,211,100. The average of $47,263 was off just 1.5% from last year=s figure, while the median fell 7.4% to $25,000. AIt was the kind of result we had hoped for,@ said Fasig-Tipton Midlantic Sales Director Paget Bennett. ALast year we had such a good sale that it attracted more horses and new consignments. I think people have a lot of confidence in this market.@ A total of 76 horses were reported not sold, for a buy-back rate of 18.1%. Last year=s buy-back rate was a remarkable 12.5%. A total of 12 horses sold for $200,000 or more this year, compared to nine in 2009. The two-day sale attracted a strong buying bench, according to Bennett. AWe had good representation at the top and from all areas--East Coast, West Coast, Louisiana buyers--we had everybody from all the different racing jurisdictions,@ she said. Forestry was retired to long-time Jones associates= Taylor Made Farm for the 2000 season. His first foals arrived in 2001, and raced in 2003. He was such an immediate hit that at least twice before the end of 2006, I had written about him as Apossibly rivaling@ Unbridled=s Song as Taylor Made=s top stallion. At the end of 2005, the year his first 4-year-olds ran, his APEX A Runner Index was an astronomical 4.79. He kicked off 2006 with the colt later to be known as The Green Monkey breaking Seattle Dancer=s all-time record for a at auction ($16 million) at Fasig-Tipton=s Calder 2-Year-Old Sale.
