I hope you had the opportunity to listen to the moving and profound messages Pope Francis shared with us on his recent visit. Those same messages really find the spotlight today, Respect Life Sunday. Pope Francis reminded us that we are a people who not only respect life, but cherish the gift from God, demonstrating our beliefs in our actions. We not only oppose abortion, but we also support those in difficult situations to, in turn, choose life over the alternative. We oppose the death penalty, but support the rule of law along with the hope of rehabilitation. We support the stewardship of creation, God’s gift to all people. Today, on the feast of St. Francis, the name our Holy Father chose to help define his papacy, we renew again our commitment to those fundamental aspects of Catholic teaching. It is a good day. While you are reading this, I am in Europe. Our group will have the opportunity to celebrate Mass at a number of renown Churches and you have my promise that you and your families will be in my prayers.
