Accepted 28-11-1996) Abstract: Clipperton Atoll is the most isolated, most westerly and largest coral reef in the tropical eastero Pacific (TEP). We collected and recorded fishes to depths of 60m during a two week visit in April 1994. Previous collections were made late last century andby expeditions from Scripps Institution of Oceanography in 1956 and 1958. One hundred and fifteen identified species from 89 genera and 43 farnilies are now known from the island. The most speciose families present at the island are moray eels (Muraenidae, 14 species), jacks (Carangidae, 11 species), wrasses (Labridae, 8 species), surgeonfishes (Acanthuridae, 8. species), squirrelfishes (Holocentridae, 5 species), groupers (Serranidae, 5 species), and triggerfishes (Balistidae, 5 species). These represent -14% of the TEP nearshorefish fauna and 40% of its genera. The 115 species inelude 14 offshore pelagic species, 22 inshore pelagic and midwater species, 70 demersal species that live 011 hard reef substrata, and nine demersal species tltat live in or feed on unconsolídated substrata (rubble and sand). Among the IOlnon-oceanie species, 68% ate carnivoreson mobile organisms, 9.2% feed on sessile benthie invertebrates, 12.9% are planktivorous, and 17.8% are benthie feeding herbivores. -

Abstract: A survey of the published records of marine organisms of Bahía Culebra, an enclosed embayment on the north Pacific coast of Costa Rica, is analyzed resulting in a list of 577 species representing 22 phyla. The most diverse groups documented were crustaceans, cnidarians and mollusks in order of species number. The first published record of any marine organism from the area, a polychaete, occurred in 1922, with a peak of published records of species between 1940 and 1949 and, more recently, from 2000 to the present. -

To examine the responses of shallow-water reef fish assemblages to tidal water level changes in a macrotidal area of the tropical eastern Pacific, daytime underwater visual fish surveys were carried out in intertidal and subtidal zones at different tidal stages in Utría National Park, Colombia. Labridae and Pomacentridae were the most abundant families, but species within these families changed between intertidal and subtidal zones. Of 106 species, >70% used the rocky intertidal zone. Benthic opportunistic reef species comprised ca. 85% of the intertidal migrant species, whereas the remaining 15% corresponded to ubiquitous reef and pelagic species. Little variation in subtidal and intertidal fish assemblages was observed between spring and neap tides, but there were large changes detected over the tidal cycle that were attributed to species-specific use of the intertidal zone at high tide. Intertidal fish assemblages comprised a defined subset of species that differed significantly from those of subtidal areas. -

Abstract The manuscript implies the assessment of species diversity associated with the mussel fishery at Vizhinjam. The objective of the present study is to formulate a data regarding with mussel fishery associated diversity which is usually considered as by catch discard after sorting out the commercially important species like Brown mussel (Perna perna) and Green mussel (Perna viridis). It can be used for the assessment of diversity loss in relation with the fishery and also helpful to the prediction the impact of the fishery activity in the area. The study was carried out in Vizhinjam, during form 2011 June to 2012 May. Our result includes the total species diversity of mussel fishery discards for a period of one year. The correlation analysis reveals the inter relationships between the plants and animals of the mussel bed and the time series analysis can give a view on species diversity variations in each month. -
