Russia Investigation Only COMMITTEE SENSITIVE - RUSSIA INVESTIGATION ONLY (U) On November 7, Emin Agalarov directed Beniaminov to work with Agalarov's head of security to confirm Trump's security guard. 1892 Shugart recalled that the Agalarovs designated the security guard. Shugart said that because Trump was not there long, Trump "had a police escort and I know a car and driver .... there were a couple of people that were there. I just don't know who they were, but they were definitely local."1893 (U) Schiller told the Committee he did not recall who picked them up at the airport, or who drove them, or what vehicle they were in, or where they went. He also did not recall doing any vetting of the transportation entities or arrangements for Donald Trump, or having any communication with the Agalarov's organization to coordinate.1894 (U) According to Graffs itinerary, Trump was scheduled to arrive at the Ritz Carlton hotel at 4:00 p.m. According to the itinerary, Trump was scheduled to do a short interview with a television host, A.J. Calloway, at the Ritz Carlton at 5: 10 p.m.1895 Publicly available information indicates that the interview with Calloway took place, though the timing is not clear. 1896 (U) Trump was scheduled to depart the hotel at 5:15 p.m. for an event at Nobu, a restaurant, that was hosted by Aras Agalarov and Russia's largest bank, the state-owned Sberbank, from 5 :30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.1897 This included a 20-minute quest"ion and answer and meet and greet, followed by an optional private dinner.1898 According to Goldstone, who attended, Trump was the focus of the event, which had been organized for approximately 20 prominent Russian business and banking leaders. According to Emin Agalarov, the event was for "Sberbank top partners and clients." Neither Emin Agalarov nor Goldstqne recalled the 1892 (U) Email, E. Agalarov to Beniaminov, Bignova, and Goldstone, November 7, 2013 (Beniaminov Production); see also E. Agalarov Tr., p. 29. 1893 (U) Shugart Tr., p. 127. 1894 (U) Schiller Tr., p. 62, 6~8. 1895 (U) Email, Graff to Shugart, et al. including Trump's ittinerary, November 7, 2013 (PS-SEN-0000139-141) ("If time is tight, will do [the Calloway interview] on return from Nobu."). 1896 (U) "'Extra' Interviews Donald Trump About Miss Universe in Moscow," Kxtra, archival footage posted January 11, 2017. Goldstone told the Committee that Trump came directly from the airport to Nobu, but the reliability of this recollection was unclear. The identities of almost all of the attendees at the Nobu event continue to be unknown, and as many as 35 people may have attended. Email, E. Sergey Gorkov, a graduate of Russia's FSB Academy, was a senior Sberbank official at the time of the event. 1898 (U) Ibid 287 names of any of the attendees other than the head of Sberbank, Herman Gref. 1899 Gref has significant ties to Putin. - (U) Following the pageant, Trump wrote to Gref: 1902 1899 (U) E. Agalarov, Tr., pp. 17-18. Goldstone told the Committee that the Agalarovs hired a translator for Trump. According to Goldstone the translator was generally present at the Nobu event and the same translator was used for the duration of the tri . With best wishes, PS - Mr. Agalarov is wonderful man and developer. 289 COMMITTEE SENSITIVE - RUSSIA INVESTIGATION ONLY COMMITTEE SENSITIVE - RUSSIA INVESTIGATION ONLY (U) Goldstone told the Committee that the Nobu event lasted 30 to 45 minutes.1903 Goldstone did not recall additional substantive information about the meeting.1904 (U) Trump may have gone to the hotel following the Nobu event. 1905 At 9:30 p.m. on November 8, Trump was scheduled to depart for Crocus City Hall, where the Miss Universe rehearsal had been taking place from 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. 1906 (U) Shugart recalled Emin Agalarov showing Trump around the Crocus City complex on Friday, November 8. 1907 Shugart also recalled that there was a meeting where the building of a Trump Tower in Moscow was briefly discussed. She recalled: It was an impromptu meeting with Emin, which is the only time I heard a Trump -- rower Moscow being discussed. It was [Friday], because Emin had shown his whole Crocus City Complex. Emin had a plan to call it - to do part ofthat complex and call it 'Manhattan. ' So that's when I remember them saying: 'Oh, and a Trump Tower for Manhattan would be good. '1908 Shugart further recalled: "I want to say that [meeting] was during rehearsal [on Friday], when he met- right after he met the contestants." Shugart said that Phil Ruffin joined the meeting but Aras Agalarov did not. 1909 1903 (U) Shugart, who was in Moscow but not at the event, told the Committee that the event lasted ''about two hours." When asked what gave her-that impression, she responded: "Rob, just judging from the schedule and hearing when I would check in to'hear how they were doing. Donald said it was a few hours, but I think it was probably about two. And just I think I kept track of the schedule." Shugart Tr., p. 142. 1904 (U) Goldstone Tr., pp. 91-92 ("somebody asked Mr. Trump for his comments on the European debt crisis and especially as it related to the Greek bailout. Mr. Trump said: 'Have any of you ever watched The Apprentice? It's a TV show I created with Mark Burnett, and it's a major money-spinner for NBC. And let me tell you how it's a major money~spinner and how it works and what it's about, and how amazing it is, and it has a prime viewership on a Sunday night in America.' And he then said: 'Thank you very much for inviting me. Your economy's doing great, you're all doing great.' And he stood up and got a standing ovation for that answer. And that is what I recall of that meeting primarily."). Schiller claimed he had no recollection of the event at Nobu. Schiller Tr., p. 73. 1905 (U) Goldstone told the Committee: "Our suggestion was that after Nobu he [Trump] went to the hotel, checked in, and got ready. That was our suggestion to him, and we had cars and drivers to take him and Keith there; and to the-best ofmy knowledge, he went there." Goldstone's recollection is inconsistent with Trump's itinerary. The Committee was not able to reconcile this discrepancy. Personally, I like the concept of a residential tower but perhaps a mixed use building would be best Let's sec how it all turns out - it is important that we make a good decision! With best wishes, (U) The night before the pageant, Trump was scheduled to attend Aras Agalarov's birthday party at 10:00 p.m. 1911 All 86 Miss Universe contestants were also scheduled to 1910 (U) Letter, Trump to Ruffin, November 13, 2013 (TRUMPORG_l 8_000012). On December 4, 2013, Trump again wrote to Ruffin, thanking Ruffin for allowing Trump to use Ruffin's airplane to travel to the pageant in Moscow. INTRODUCTION Sexual indiscretion, misconduct, and deceit percolate throughout the extensive 2019 Report On The Investigation Into Russian Interference In the 2016 Presidential Election—known as the Mueller Report.1 President Trump’s sexual behaviors are certainly not the focus of the Mueller Report, which resulted from the Acting Attorney General’s appointment of Robert S. Mueller, III as Special Counsel for the United States Department of Justice to investigate “any links and/or coordination between the Russian government and individuals associated with the campaign of President Donald Trump,” and “any matters that arose or may arise directly from the investigation.”2 Volume I of the Mueller Report addresses Russian interference with the 2016 election and any Trump campaign links in approximately 200 pages. Volume II of the Mueller Report, which is slightly longer at 241 pages, focuses on the question of whether the president obstructed justice in connection with the Russia-related investigations, including presidential actions related to the Special Counsel’s investigation itself. Given its charge, it is both predictable and understandable that the Mueller Report only obliquely addresses President Trump’s sexual * © 2020, All rights Reserved. One of their own was running the country and Russia's intelligence services were going to get busy. Calder Walton: The KGB had a vast array of different names for an agent. The word agent isn't actually that useful. I think that an “asset” is broader because it can encompass both the witting, knowing, agent if you like, or an unwitting agent. The KGB had, throughout the Cold War, a term called “useful idiots.” So these are people that were useful for Moscow, but they didn't know that they were useful. Max Bergmann: One focus of these agents was businessmen, or people they thought may rise into important positions and that brings us to a guy named Carter Page.     Mueller’s Digging Exposes Foreign Lobbying and Its Big Paydays The mandate given to Robert Mueller and his team was broad: to investigate not just Russian election interference but also any related crimes they might unearth. So when this group of seasoned prosecutors began rooting around Washington, they pounced on a ripe target — lobbyists taking millions of dollars from foreign governments. At the trial of Paul Manafort, an unflattering picture has emerged of lawyers, lobbyists and consultants from both political parties winning big paydays for work on behalf of a Kremlin- aligned former Ukrainian strongman. Some spent the money on cars and homes, prosecutors said, and a jacket made of ostrich for Manafort. The vigor with which Mueller has investigated the flows of money from Ukraine, Turkey and other countries into Washington could be as much a part of his legacy as special counsel as whatever he discovers about possible collusion between Russia and the Trump campaign or presidential obstruction of justice. The Manafort case is part of a broader inquiry into the lucrative work done on behalf the former president of Ukraine, Viktor F. Yanukovych, and Mueller has handed some elements of the investigation to prosecutors in New York. Beyond his office, the Justice Department has also recently been pursuing foreign influence cases with greater urgency. ADVERTISING All this has prompted lobbyists to hunt for advice about how to comply with laws governing that sphere, long viewed as toothless. “The phone rings much more often with this question than it did two years ago,” said Tom Spulak, a partner at the King & Spalding law firm who advises on lobbying compliance.
