  • Uuden Ylikapellimestarin Kausi Alkoi Helsingin Kaupunginorkesteri Oli
Uuden ylikapellimestarin kausi alkoi Helsingin kaupunginorkesteri oli toimintavuoden aikana monella tavalla uuden äärellä. Uusi ylikapellimestari Susanna Mälkki aloitti kolmivuotisen kautensa syksyllä, ja hänen suunnittelemansa ranskalaiseen musiikkiin painottuva kauden 2016-2017 ohjelmisto julkistettiin huhtikuussa. Jo kevätkaudella ennakoitiin tulevaa: Mälkki johti keväällä kolme konserttia, ja Espanjaan suuntautunut konserttikiertue tehtiin hänen johdollaan toukokuussa. Maaliskuussa uutisoitiin BIS Recordsin kanssa solmittu levytyssopimus, joka tähtää neljän levyn julkaisemiseen – orkesteri tekee ensimmäisen BIS-levymerkillä julkaistavan Bartók-levytyksen toukokuussa 2017. Kevätkausi 2016 käynnistyi kansainvälisellä tähtivierailulla, kun Hollywood-legenda John Malkovich yhdessä pianisti Anastasia Terenkovan kanssa toi Helsinkiin vaikuttavan Report on the Blind -performanssinsa. Maaliskuisessa Sammon taonta - konsertissa viiden nuoren säveltäjän uudet teokset yhdistyivät 50 nuoren konserttia varten luomaan tanssikoreografiaan. Kevätkauden taiteilijavieraita olivat mm. kapellimestarit Andrey Boreyko, Alan Buribajev, Matthias Pintscher ja Alexander Vedernikov, pianisti Martin Helmchen, viulisti Nikolaj Znaider ja baritoni Matija Meic. Pianisti Dejan Lazić kantaesitti Jaakko Kuusiston pianokonserton säveltäjän itsensä johdolla. Kevätkaudella järjestettiin jo perinteeksi muodostunut Kamarimusiikkia kaupungintalolla -konserttisarja, josta kaupunkilaiset saivat nauttia ilmaiseksi. Syyskauden käynnisti uuden ylikapellimestarin johtama konsertti,
