Penulis 2010 vi Universitas Indonesia Mekanisme pemasangan..., Legina Aditya, FMIPA UI, 2010 ABSTRAK Nama : Legina Aditya Program Studi : Biologi Judul : Mekanisme pemangsaan pada Chicoreus capucinus (Neogastropoda: Muricidae) terhadap Cerithidea cingulata (Mesogastropoda: Potamididae) Telah dilakukan penelitian mengenai mekanisme pemangsaan pada Chicoreus capucinus terhadap Cerithidea cingulata, pada bulan Juli--Desember 2010. Penelitian bersifat deskriptif dan bertujuan untuk mengetahui mekanisme pemangsaan dan jarak terhadap mangsa. Penelitian dilakukan di dalam akuarium dengan menggunakan 27 individu Chicoreus capucinus untuk percobaan mekanisme pemangsaan dan 9 individu Chicoreus capucinus untuk percobaan jarak terhadap mangsa. Penelitian dilakukan dengan mengamati perilaku dan mekanisme pemangsaan yang dilakukan oleh Chicoreus capucinus, dan menghitung lama waktu mendeteksi dan mendekati mangsa oleh Chicoreus capucinus. Dari penelitian ini didapatkan hasil 11 individu Chicoreus capucinus yang memangsa melalui apertur, 9 individu Chicoreus capucinus yang memangsa dengan cara mengebor cangkang, dan 3 individu Chicoreus capucinus memangsa dengan cara mengebor operkulum. Rata-rata waktu total Chicoreus capucinus untuk dapat mendeteksi mangsa adalah 7 menit 20 detik. Chicoreus capucinus berukuran Y (5--6 cm) memiliki waktu mendeteksi mangsa yang tercepat, sedangkan Chicoreus capucinus berukuran Z (6--7 cm) memiliki waktu mendeteksi mangsa yang terlama. Rata-rata waktu Chicoreus capucinus untuk mendekati mangsa adalah 25 menit 58 detik. Chicoreus capucinus berukuran Y (5--6 cm) memiliki waktu mendekati mangsa yang tercepat, sedangkan Chicoreus capucinus berukuran Z (6--7 cm) memiliki waktu mendekati mangsa yang terlama. An investigation on the predation mechanism of Chicoreus capucinus against Cerithidea cingulata, was done in July - December 2010. The study is descriptive and aims to determine the predation mechanism and prey perception distance. Research conducted at the aquarium and using 27 snails of Chicoreus capucinus for the predation mechanism experiment and 9 snails of Chicoreus capucinus for the prey perception distance experiment. The research was conducted by observing the behavior and mechanism of predation by Chicoreus capucinus, and calculate the length of time by detecting and approaching prey Chicoreus capucinus. The results of predation mechanism are 11 of snails Chicoreus capucinus feeding from the aperture’s prey, 9 of snails of Chicoreus capucinus bored the shell’s prey, and 3 snails of Chicoreus capucinus bored the operculum’s prey. Average total time for Chicoreus capucinus to be able to detect prey is 7 minutes 20 seconds. The Chicoreus capucinus sized Y (5--6 cm) had the fastest time to detect prey, whereas Chicoreus capucinus sized Z (6 --7 cm) had the longest time to detect prey. The average time to approach prey of Chicoreus capucinus was 25 minutes 58 seconds. The Chicoreus capucinus sized Y (5--6 cm) had the fastest time of approaching prey, whereas Chicoreus capucinus sized Z (6--7 cm) had the longest time approaching prey. The maximum density (4.4/m2 area) of Pirenella cingulata reported during winter and lowest during monsoon (0.20/ m2 area). This mud snail was observed dependent on the mangrove during adverse climatic conditions during summer and monsoon seasons. Temperature and dissolved oxygen levels influence the density of P. cingulata. The distribution pattern of C. cingulata was aggregated during each season, as shown in experiments utilizing Taylor's power regression and Iowa's patchiness regression methods (P < 0.001). Two- way ANOVA indicated that densities were significantly affected by S. alterniflora invasion stage (P < 0.001), however, no significant season effect was found (P = 0.090) and on the interaction between the seasons (P = 0.939). The density distribution during the invasion stage was significantly different in each season as shown in one-way ANOVA. Pearson’s correlation coefficient analysis of density data indicated that the highest densities occurred in habitats at the initial invasion stage during summer. The peak in C. cingulata density during spring, autumn and winter occurred in habitats where invasion was classified as initial, whereas the lowest densities occurred in the stage of invasion completed during each season.

Pre-ingestive breakage or crushing is only one of four methods of molluscivory (Vermeij, 1987; Harper and Skelton, 1993), the others being whole­ organism ingestion, insertion and extraction, and boring. Other authors in this volume treat the last behavior, whereas whole-organism ingestion, and insertion and extraction, however common, are unlikely to leave preservable evidence. Typically muricoid species belonging to genus Nucella and Thais have been found to be good bioindicators globally. Although up to seven (7) imposex developmental stages have been described based on organotin accumulation by an organism and resultant morphological expression (penis and vas deferens development in females) due to endocrine disruption and steroidal imbalance. From Pakistan phenomenon of imposex has been described in nine (9) species of meso and neogasrtropods. Imposex stages 1-4 and 4+ have been found in examined muricids, bursid and buccinid species which revealed the moderate contamination effects on gastropod populations found along the Pakistan coast. Some archaeogastropods from Japan and Pakistan have also been tested respectively for reproductive fitness due to possible contamination effects. This shell morphology occurs mostly within the superfamily Cerithioidea. Several morphologic characters of cerithiform shells are adap- tive within five broad functional areas: (1) defence from shell-peeling predators (external sculpture, pre- adult internal barriers, preadult varices, adult aperture) (2) burrowing and infaunal life (burrowing sculp- tures, bent and elongated inhalant adult siphon, plough-like adult outer lip, flattened dorsal region of last whorl), (3) clamping of the aperture onto a solid substrate (broad tangential adult aperture), (4) stabilisa- tion of the shell when epifaunal (broad adult outer lip and at least three types of swellings located on the left ventrolateral side of the last whorl in the adult stage), and (5) righting after accidental overturning (pro- jecting dorsal tubercles or varix on the last or penultimate whorl, in one instance accompanied by hollow ventral tubercles that are removed by abrasion against the substrate in the adult stage). Most of these char- acters are made feasible by determinate growth and a countdown ontogenetic programme.
