He also talked about the ability of innovation in human beings, which according CMS Wishes Everybody a Very Happy New Year! to him are confidence, honesty and love for mankind. He spoke about a University in which he said that a University is the conscience of a nation. According to him, the scope for creativity and innovation is not limited, thus it can encompass any existing thing, and it all depends on the way we look at regular things. Dr. Medhi remarked that innovations are those which aims at improving the way people live and lead their life, not all innovations are for the well being of the mankind. He talked about the relationship of technology with innovation where he gave a brief introduction of hard technology and soft technology. He pointed the areas/sectors of India and the north‐east where the need of creativity and innovation is much felt. Finally he wrapped up his speech by saying that an innovation should not lead to inhuman competition, should not distort the balance of life and human sufferings and chaos. The speech by the keynote speaker was a holistic approach to “creativity and innovation” and it enlightened all aspects – how, where, when, why and what of innovation and creativity. Earlier the 2‐day intellectual convergence on November 7 – 8, 2009 was inaugurated by Prof. K K Deka, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Dibrugarh University in the presence of distinguished guests, delegates and students. The inaugural session was followed by Manthan, the panel discussion which deliberated on the theme. Manthan was chaired by some eminent personalities of north‐east India which included Md. Anisul Hoque (Director and Creative Head, Resonance Brand Communication), Prof. Pranjal Bezborah (Founder Director‐in‐charge, CMSDU and Professor, Department of Commerce, Dibrugarh University), Col. P.K. Ghosh (Executive Director, Jalan Group of Tea Companies, Dibrugarh), Mr. Uddhab Kumar Bharali (well known innovator of Assam) and Mr. Tridip Sarmah (NE Head, HR & Administration, Bharti Airtel Limited). The panel discussion was followed by a question‐answer round with the audience. The question put by Mr. Bulbul Gogoi, BBA 2007 Batch student of the Centre was adjudged as the best question and it fetched him Rs. 1000/‐. After the presentation by the respective students, the judges awarded Ms. Sonashree Borgoyari and Mr. Robert G. Basumatary (Career Concern College, Guwahati) as the Best Paper and Presenters in the Undergraduate Group and Mr. Biplab Senchowa (CCSDU) as the Best Paper and Mr. Bidhan Roy and Ms. Sangeeta Chakraborty (Career Concern College, Guwahati) to be the best Presenters in the Post Graduate Group. The objective of the game was to find the hidden treasure by solving a series of activities each of which, when solved, provided a clue leading to the next obstacle/puzzle in the series. It was to test the teams’ collective intelligence, teamwork & also physical endurance. There were different stages in the game. At each stage, the teams were provided with a clue. That clue pointed to the next location where they had to either perform an activity or solve a puzzle. Volunteers were placed at different locations for guidance. The winners of Khoj were from the Centre for Computer Studies, DU and were awarded a cash prize of Rs. 5000/‐. The winner’s team named Charlie comprised of Rajarshi Goswami (BSc.
