    Colin Lane Comedian / Professional Show Off As the ‘Lano’ from Lano & Woodley, Colin Lane was one half of Australia’s favourite comedy duo. They won comedy’s Oscar, the Perrier Award, and their series The Adventures of Lano & Woodley played in more than 30 countries. In 2006 they said Goodbye with a tour that played to 125,000 people in 34 towns. Since the farewell tour, Colin has toured to cabaret and comedy festivals around Australia, most notably teaming up with the hilarious David Collins from The Umbilical Brothers to tackle Gilbert and Sullivan in The 3 Mikados. Colin has been a regular on a wide variety of Aussie TV shows, including Spicks and Specks, Ready Steady Cook, The Circle, Good News Week & The Project. In 2013, he was a guest panellist on UK favourite QI alongside Stephen Fry and Alan Davies, and has returned several times since – most recently in 2019 on the new-look, Sandi Toksvig-hosted version of the hugely popular show. He has worked with both Red Stitch under director Nadia Tass, and The Production Company, in “Curtains”. He’s also teamed up with his friend of 25 years, opera singer David Hobson, for “In Tails”. They sing, dance and even tell some jokes in a unique and hilarious experiment that entertains and beguiles in a whole new way. We broadcast thousands of hours of Australian programming every year and we employ thousands of Australians directly and indirectly across the production sector. • We invest heavily in marketing and promotion of local programs, we build content brands, we train production professionals, and we launch local and international careers both on and off screen. Eighty percent of Ten’s publicity and marketing budget is spent on promoting Australian content. • Without strong, profitable local broadcasters, the Australian production sector faces a very uncertain future. We want to retain our commitment to Australian drama, our national news coverage, and our commitment around Australia but Network Ten’s commitment to local content and local news is in serious jeopardy. • Our competitive landscape has changed completely – Ten is now competing directly for advertising dollars, viewers, and content against some of the world’s largest and most valuable companies such as Google, Facebook, Netflix, Apple and Amazon. • These companies do not make local news, dramas, or children’s television. They do not employ local journalists or publicists and in some cases they do not have a single employee in Australia, but they are taking an increasing share of advertising revenue in this market.

    Steve’s Film Festival Reviews for 2005 By Steve Munro Ratings * I stayed to the bitter end (but probably shouldn’t have) ** Maybe worth seeing once *** Recommended **** First rate ***** Best of the festival The reviews are arranged in the order of viewing. Festival Main Title From the poster, a pair of hands making a square frame, I had expected something rather boring, but this year’s title was a joy to watch 33 times over. A series of images, all made from hands, represents each of the aspects of the Film Festival including its library, the Sprockets Children’s festival and the out-of-town film circuit. One night, as I waved to a friend who was looking for me in the house as this sequence ran, I realized that these are also the hands that shoot up in front of a screen to make pictures. A lovely 30th anniversary piece. Universal Studios’ salute to the volunteers is partly recycled from years past, and been updated with the new NBC/Universal logo. All the same, it drew applause at each viewing right up to the end, with especially lusty cheers on the last day. Every screening began with an exhortation to turn off cell phones and not to photograph the film. The less said about this trailer, sponsored by Motorola, the better. It got very tiring by the third viewing. (Several of my screenings had security folk scanning the audience for video pirates, but nobody was hauled out of any theatre and fed to the dogs. A shame as this would have been at least as entertaining as the onscreen action for a few flicks.) Visa Trailers Times are getting tough.
