FY20 Regional Initiative Grant Program

This is a program of the Indiana Arts Commission (IAC). The IAC is an agency of State Government funded by the Indiana General Assembly and the National Endowments for the Arts, a federal agency. On behalf of the people of Indiana, the IAC advocates engagement with the arts to enrich the quality of individual and community life. The IAC is governed by a 15 member board of gubernatorial appointees and serves all citizens and regions of the state.

• Arts Project Support (APS) grants provide funding to Indiana arts and non-arts organizations to support a distinct aspect of the organization’s arts activities, such as a one-time event; a single production; an exhibition; an educational seminar; or series of related arts activities, such as art classes or training sessions.

• The Arts Organization Support (AOS) provides annual operating support for the ongoing artistic and administrative functions of eligible arts organizations that align with the Indiana Arts Commission’s Public Funding Imperatives. Please note that Arts Organization Support II is a two-year grant commitment.

During the festival we will screen feature and short films produced by Black directors and/or producers or by others as long as the film has a Black theme. Artistic personnel will also make appearance at area schools and on area talk radio shows. . Porter $4,072.00 Our project will enrich students in grades 1-12 in a series of one week session offerings of 3D, 2D, Fiber Arts, Advanced, Digital, and Special Needs classes. There will also be a docent led tour of the Valparaiso Brauer Art Museum and archives, visiting artists, art production, field trips, family night, and a concluding art show and subsequent travelling exhibition for promotion. Funds from the grant will be used for participant scholarships, art supplies, and teaching artist salaries. 1 APS Ballet Folklorico Tapatio Co. of Northwest Indiana Porter $3,667.00 Our 8th annual Fiesta Folklorica show will be held November 2 at the Memorial Opera House in Valparaiso, IN. A show for Northwest Indiana students will take place at Portage High School on November 1. Performing will be Ballet Folklorico Tapatio Company of Northwest Indiana and the Mexican Folkloric Dance Co. of Chicago. Funds will be used to cover artist and travel fees, marketing, venue rental/personnel, and instructor salaries. This year's show will feature a Day of the Dead theme. 1 APS Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Northwest Indiana Porter $4,072.00 Art is a mainstay core program within Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Northwest Indiana, developing creativity and cultural awareness through the appreciation of art. Our organization is requesting $5,000 from Indiana Arts Commission to continue and enhance our Fine Arts program that supplements and reinforces academic success of young people. We propose to expose 600 Club members (ages 5 -18) per year with trained professionals, needed supplies, and recognition through Club and public exhibits. 1 APS Cesare Battisti Lodge Lake $4,072.00 The grants will be used to support Italian Art in the form of music, dance, culinary, and visual. There will be traditional Italian music and dancing that reflects the history, language, and ethnic composition of various locales as well as live cooking demonstrations of popular Italian cuisine. 1 APS Decay Devils, Incorporated Lake $4,072.00 We will combine a unique blend of music on 3 stages to complement the innovation, art and spectacle of creative installations and art cars/stages curated during the event. It is a shared experience of oneness in action, where all participants can not only enjoy the music and dance, but also feel completely secure, accepted, and loved, creating a community sentiment of compassion and joyfulness that extends beyond our weekend gathering and into the hearts and communities of all who participate. 1 APS Discovery Charter School Porter $4,072.00 The goal of the project is to get 575 (proposed for 2019/20 school year) 1st-8th grade Discovery Charter School students to visit the galleries of the Lubeznik Center for the Arts in Michigan City, IN, Beverly Shores Century of Progress Homes and Train Depot Museum/Gallery (annual 7th g trip) and the Art Institute of Chicago (annual 3rd g trip). Transportation, docents, curriculum and administration of the project are compensated by the grant funds. 1 APS Duneland Chamber of Commerce Porter $4,072.00 On a monthly basis we will engage residents and visitors through on-site, interactive arts-based experiences: May 15-Season Opener "If you build it" Paint a fence post for the boundary of the site.June 12-Summer Fun "Bag it" build and paint your own bag game, July 17/Patriot Days "Raising the Colors", Arts and activities based around Ole Glory, Aug 14/ "Science of Art", Color theory explored with tie-dye and stained glass. Sept 18 "Fallfest", "Apple Art stamps and leaf shadow painting." 1 APS Duo Sequenza (Debra Silvert) Porter $4,072.00 "Project Listen Up!" embeds Duo Sequenza's artistry in selected communities in the South Shore Region by using numerous informal short performances in multiple non-traditional venues. The project's purpose is to create awareness and stimulate broad public interest in chamber music, especially new music, with the goal of organic audience development through outreach, meaningful engagement, and education. Grant funds underwrite production costs including artist stipends. 1 APS FAMILY FOLKLORE FOUNDATION, INC. Lake $3,262.00 Sky, Dune, & Lake Watch is a project about learning experiences of the sky, dunes, & lake. We will coordinate with Lowell's Conway Observatory; the Indiana Dunes National Park; the IDEM Earth Day events, and the Hammond Port Authority Boat Tour. W We will camp, bike, and view the sky in telescopes at the Dunes, plus many side trips. We will entertain audiences at local venues via radio shows, puppet plays, and news reporting. Porter $4,072.00 Frontline will use IAC grant dollars to fund our 8th Annual Hooked on Art - Live Street Art Festival on Saturday, September 21st in historic Downtown Chesterton. A signature event for the Town of Chesterton, Hooked on Art brings artists from across the country and the region to create live works of art, from start to finish, over the course of one day. The Festival is a major fundraising event hosted by Frontline and funds raised support the costs of client treatment scholarship. 1 APS Humane Indiana (formerly Humane Society Calumet Area) Lake $4,072.00

Humane Indiana is championing a public art initiative that brings together 100 local businesses, schools, and community organizations with 50 artists in Porter and Lake County through the Owl Public Arts Initiative (OPA). OPA will create 50 opportunities for local artists to receive a $600 stipend for designing an owl sculpture for a business or community organization. IAC funds will be used to compensate artists as well as purchase art supplies, percussion instruments, and theatrical props. Visiting artists will work closely with the education team to lead activities that integrate art, nature, and science. Summer camp and school- year programs provide young people with the tools and inspiration needed for a wide range of activities that encourage creativity and innovation.

1 APS Indiana University Northwest - Department of Performing Arts Lake $4,072.00 The RAISIN CYCLE will involve three theatrical events designed to explore housing policy and city planning. Public discussions with scholars, artists, and community leaders will to help highlight social issues within the plays and explore the parallels between past and present discriminatory housing policies in the plays and within our own communities. IAC grant funds will support the production of A RAISIN IN THE SUN, that will serve as the cornerstone of the project. 1 APS Kristina Isabelle Dance Company LaPorte $4,072.00 Art in Nature will leverage at least 15 local and national artists to engage NW Indiana residents in personalized concerts, film screenings, art workshops, dance classes and a site specific performance developed via an immersive residency. The partnership between MCM and TFI will expand live arts in our community and connect artists and residents. IAC funding will be used to support artists, manage the project, access equipment, and promote and document the events of this inaugural season. 1 APS L'arc en Ciel Theatre Group Lake $4,072.00 Indiana Arts Commission funds will be used to produce a Kid's Theatre Camp in Cedar Lake, Indiana where students can learn all aspects of theatre including acting, set and costume design, technical components including light and sound design, along with choreography and music delivery. Students will also learn how some of the administrative sides of theatre including marketing, producing, directing, and stage managing. 1 APS Memorial Opera House Foundation Porter $4,072.00 The Memorial Opera House Foundation has supported Children’s Theatre programming as it expanded into a suite of “Limelights” programming. Now, Limelights will offer a bigger challenge to students: putting on the musical Peter Pan. Students will be guided by experienced instructors, but they will manage all backstage work and onstage acting. IAC funds will be used to rent new practice space, create appropriate sets and props, get direction, record the production, and other minor costs. 1 APS Michigan City Chamber Music Festival, Inc. LaPorte $4,072.00 The Festival's project includes four distinct but inter-related activities each of which advances our mission: A) Five concerts of chamber music presented in "Festival Week" (August 3, 5, 7, 9, and 11, 2019). B.) Festival Week Children's Program, running concurrently with the concert series in A. C. Youth Music Camp (first week in July) featuring noted musician-educators; D) "Winter Recital Series" 3 to 5 concerts given by Festival musicians between November, 2019 and May 2020. 1 APS Michigan City Messiah LaPorte $4,072.00 The project will: 1) Perform Handel's Messiah with an all-volunteer chorus, 4 professional soloists and chamber orchestra. 2) Establish a second Messiah performance within the calendar year and create a new concert experience of a different choral masterpiece. Grant funds will be used to support the 55th annual presentation of Messiah and to establish a secondary performance opportunity of different sacred repertoire, therefore, expanding the organization's musical footprint in the community. 1 APS Neighbors Broadcasting dba WVLP-LP Porter $3,523.70

Funds from the IAC will be used to provide staff support, overhead, advertising, and equipment usage for five hours per week of live, original, volunteer-hosted programming featuring local artists, musicians and arts events in the Valparaiso area on the programs Art on the Air, Livin' It Up, and Left of Center.

1 APS Northwest Indiana Excellence in Theatre Foundation Inc Lake $4,072.00

Indiana Arts Commission funds will be used to develop new audiences for member theatres and grow the number of theatregoers in the region. This will be accomplished by presenting/promoting free Theatrepalooza festival events. Two large scale seasonal events at alternating Lake and Porter County locations will showcase the works of multiple theatres at one time to a diverse audience. Smaller, individual member theatre events will allow them to build new audiences directly.

Eye on the Arts is a television series designed to showcase the high level of artistic talent in NW Indiana. IAC funds will help to produce video segments that take viewers out of the studio to a variety of local artists & artistic organizations, demonstrating how art inspires and improves the quality of life for our community. Our goal is to advance regional arts at all levels through exposure to our large and diverse TV audience, a reach that covers over 320,000 Indiana households. 1 APS Opportunity Enterprises Porter $4,072.00 The 13th Annual ARTability Show and Sale will continue to create opportunities for the artists of Opportunity Enterprises' Art Enrichment Program to showcase their talents and receive community recognition for their artwork. Preparation for the event will include providing the client artists with extensive art instruction on a variety of media in order to create artwork for sale, preparing the artwork for display, and publicizing the event to the community at large. 1 APS Seedlings Theatre Company Lake $4,072.00 Seedlings Sprouts: Pop Up Theatre will provide theatrical experiences in innovative ways in non-traditional theatrical venues for entertainment and education to audiences across Northwest Indiana. These are one or two performance showcases of new works, improv, short Shakespeare, one-acts, children's productions, reader's theatre, page-to-stage performances, and even traditional works done in a non-traditional way. IAC grant funds will be used to produce these pop-up shows across NWI. 1 APS Sociedad Cultural Y Civica La Reforma Lake $4,072.00 The Indiana Arts Commission (IAC) grant funds will be used to fund the cost of performances by a variety of performers from throughout the region and the Chicago-land area. It will also be used to fund advertising through the creation of flyers, posters, online and media advertising and social media. 1 APS South Shore Brass Band Porter $4,072.00 The South Shore Performing Arts Co. will present an in-school concert at an underserved regional school during the second semester of the 2019-20 school year followed by a consortium of master class clinics for the instrumental music students. If funding permits, the event will also include an evening concert by the South Shore Brass Band open to the general public. IAC funds will cover administrative fees for procuring and performing music, as well as the artistic fees of the band members. 1 APS South Shore Chamber Orchestra Porter $4,072.00 Working with artistic partner the Memorial Opera House, the South Shore Orchestra will offer 2 Children's Concerts to 2nd grade students from area schools. Related activities will teach students about the music being heard, meet the musicians and examine instruments, with the goals of introducing students to classical music, music theory and history, and related arts. IAC funds will be used to engage musicians at a fair rate of compensation, and provide educational materials. 1 APS The Duneland Family YMCA Porter $4,072.00 The Duneland Family YMCA's community arts programs are designed to increase knowledge and appreciation of the arts for all people, regardless of background. Our programs also foster community engagement and are a way for groups of people to come together and experience something both personal and relatable. Current community programs include a youth "Music in Motion" class, Drawing and a Journal project with our Seniors, and art instruction in the curriculum for our child care programs. 1 APS Top 20, Inc. Lake $4,072.00 Our program has four major components. Dance attracts the students to the program. We teach the fundamentals of movement and explore various styles of dance. Dance inspires self-expression and confidence. Mentoring provides participants the support and resources they need to cope and succeed. Community service is structured to engage the students, teach them concern for others, and discover their unique talents. Field trips expose them to cultural and social events and enrich their lives. 1 APS Town of Schererville Lake $4,072.00 The Town of Schererville, through its Park Department, plans on presenting a free summer concert performance by the Northwest Indiana Symphony at Redar Park. The IAC grant funds will be used to compensate the orchestra for their performance. 1 APS Valparaiso Creative Council Inc. Porter $2,000.00 The VCC seeks support for the implementation of 8, 90-minute information sessions to launch its new Creative Portal. The Portal is a central hub that allows artists, residents, and visitors to obtain information about current and upcoming arts and cultural events in the Valparaiso and Porter County communities. Sessions will inform the community about the Portal and guide stakeholders on use. Sessions will be captured on audio/video and made available online for those unable to attend in person. 1 APS Valparaiso Theatrical Company Porter $4,072.00 Indiana Arts Commission funds will support a new project called "Show Up Wine Down" pairing live theatre with a new outdoor vineyard space. The project will introduce the contemporary wine crowd to the joy of live theatre. IAC funds will be used to pay for rights/royalities for two productions, along with the props, costumes, sets, support materials, staffing and marketing needed to produce the shows. 1 APS Whiting/Robertsdale Community Improvement Corporation Lake $4,072.00 The Whiting Park Festival Orchestra has been providing summer symphony concerts in Whiting Lakefront Park. This year marks its 26th year of presenting FREE symphony orchestra concerts in the park! Each season consists of four (4) concerts presented outdoors in the Whiting Park Pavilion during the summer. The series will showcase local artistic talent at a beautiful outdoor venue, the Chris Wilson Pavilion at Potawatomi Park in South Bend. 2 APS City of Warsaw - Parks & Recreation Department Kosciusko $ 4,323.50 Warsaw Parks and Recreation Department (WPRD) proposes the continuation of a 9-week Summer Central Park Concert Series that highlights local/regional music artists and new genres each week. Funding will allow us to host diverse and high quality musical artists, who would otherwise be unavailable without underwriting, in order to serve patrons of all socioeconomic status and abilities in our community. 2 APS Downtown South Bend, Inc. St. Joseph $ 4,323.50 Art Beat 2019 is a free visual, performing, and culinary arts festival, which takes place along the streets and sidewalks of downtown South Bend. It is the largest, single-day festival in the seven county region. The purpose of this event is to support the local art scene and offer a venue for the community to experience the arts. Since this is a free event for visitors and participating artists, IAC grant money will be used to cover the infrastructural and promotional elements of the event. 2 APS Ensemble Concept/21 Inc. St. Joseph $ 4,323.50 Ensemble Concept/21 (EC21) is a professional resident ensemble at IUSB featuring strings, woodwinds, piano and percussion, dedicated to exposing students and audiences to chamber music of the 21st century. In 2019-2020 we are celebrating the passing of the 19th Amendment with three performances featuring internationally-acclaimed women composers, discussions, and workshops on new music for students and audiences. IAC funds will be used to pay ensemble musicians and acquire sheet music. 2 APS Fulton County Historical Society Inc. Fulton $ 4,323.50 IAC funds will be used to pay salaries of musicians and artists for the 42nd Annual Trail of Courage Living History Festival Sept. 21-22. Funds will also be used to help pay for publicity with brochures, website, and other online venues to get the word out. Income goes to support the Fulton County museum, which is open 6 days a week year around. This is a major fundraiser for the museum for the year. 2 APS Goshen Community Chorale, Incorporated Elkhart $ 4,323.50

The Chorale again anticipates presenting fall and spring programs of choral masterworks, both a cappella and with orchestral accompaniment. It is our expectation that one of the programs will be performed twice, for the general public and again for a special audience (which will likely be in a facility for seniors). 2 APS Robinson Community Learning Center at the University of Notre DameSt. Joseph $ 4,323.50 The RCLC will offer an afterschool arts program, summer arts camps, and an art club at the NDCAC, serving 120 children ages 7-12, primarily low-income minority youth. Children will engage in arts activities 4 days/week for 24 weeks of the school year, and 4 weeks in summer. Goals are increased youth participation in the arts, capacity of volunteers to provide arts education, and educational outcomes. The RCLC is requesting $5000 to offset cost of materials and an arts coordinator. 2 APS South Bend Chamber Singers - St. Mary's College St. Joseph $ 3,473.50

SBCS is requesting funds to support the staging of its diverse 31st Concert Season comprising 3 performances: the 30th "Christmas at Loretto" concert, premiering a work we commissioned from American composer Carolyn Pirtle and featuring works by women composers; "Ashes of Roses," a world premier of a new version of the requiem by American composer Jocelyn Hagen paired with the Duruflé Requiem; and a final concert, "The Day is Done" that will be a series of choral reflections on war.

2 APS The Jewish Federation of St. Joseph Valley St. Joseph $ 4,323.50

The 10th Michiana Jewish Film Festival (MJFF) in 2020 will bring national and international Jewish cinema to Michiana. Films will range from Jewish history, culture and religion to the conflict in the Middle East. The MJFF will introduce cutting-edge films to the entire population of Michiana. The IAC funds will be used to offset the costs for the rights to show 8-12 films, for marketing expenses to reach our entire region, and for organizing educational programming associated with the MJFF.

The Raclin School of the Arts at IUSB will present a special two-day “Jazz Extravaganza” festival featuring The Rodney Marsalis Philadelphia Big Brass and six-time GRAMMY Award nominee, jazz singer Nnenna Freelon from September 20-21, 2019. Grant- funded activities include a free one-day workshop and jam session for high school and university jazz bands. On Saturday, September 21, IUSB will host a free outdoor concert, 3-7:30 pm, with local jazz bands opening for the featured artists.

Welcoming Michiana is hosting a world music event in South Bend during the national, week long celebration of inclusion, Welcoming Week, September 13-22, 2019. The goal of the project is to bring people from around the Region to meet, eat and enjoy music that highlights the joys of combining styles from around the globe. This event will help Welcoming Michiana establish itself as a convener of welcoming activities for the community. IAC funds will be used to support this event.

3 APS Allen County-Fort Wayne Historical Society, History Center Allen $4,750.00 This request seeks funding to partially offset the presentation expenses of the 2019 Miami Indian Heritage Days series, for the July to November programs. Through the Miami Indian Heritage Days series, each monthly presentation features a different element of Miami Indian history and culture, such as dancing, singing, drumming, beading, ribbonwork, cooking, traditional games, edible and usable plants, weapons and tools making, cattail matting and wikiami (wigwam) construction, and more. 3 APS Bishop Dwenger High School Allen $4,750.00 The grant funds will be used to help decrease fees for students involved in marching band, winter guard, winter drum line, string camp & jazz band. The students will learn the different elements of performing arts. Such as dance, music & visual arts. The performing groups incorporate the visual components of art into their shows. For example, in winter guard, the students learn how the music is also reflected by the use of color, lines, shapes, space, forms, texture & value. 3 APS Bishop Luers High School Allen $4,156.25 The Knight Tales are a group of Bishop Luers High School theatre production students who endeavor to go out into our southside Fort Wayne communities to reach low-income and racially diverse children with two to three days of theatre workshops and a short performance. The Knight Tales are looking to expand their reach and will spend the IAC grant to fund additional costumes, make-up, and props, the printing of scripts and class materials, and transportation for the theatre troupe. 3 APS Children's Choir of Huntington County Huntington $4,750.00 The Children's Choir of Huntington County is requesting funds to support the 2019-20 Concert Series consisting of 3 formal concerts and 8-10 community performances. The project involves 4 children's choirs ranging from 1st-12th grades, an adult choir for teens and adults with and without disabilities and various guest artists. Funds will be directed toward the support of the concert expenses (technical fees, music, etc.) and the directors and accompanists needed to prepare and direct the choirs. 3 APS Decatur Main Street, Inc. Adams $4,750.00 The Kekionga Festival presents a cultural and historical overview that allows participants to experience life at the founding of our community. IAC funding will be used to help cover expenses of crafters, demonstrators and performers in the setting of an 1840's pioneer encampment. IAC funding will also help bring a widely acclaimed storyteller from Indianapolis and a wood carving group led by Scott Lepley. IAC funding will also be used to help promote the event with flyers, signs and news media. 3 APS East Allen County Schools Allen $4,750.00 With the help of the IAC, East Allen County Schools will contract six artists from Heartland Sings to implement an Arts Integrated Residency at Southwick Elementary School for the entire 2019-2020 school year. These artists will help bolster student achievement in 1st grade classrooms by teaching lessons that integrate the genre of opera with Indiana State Language Arts Standards. The funds requested will solely be used to pay the contracted artists. 3 APS Easter Seals Arc of Northeast Indiana, Inc Allen $4,750.00 Easterseals Arc requests $5,000 to provide arts activities to a pre-established group of 400 adults with intellectual/developmental disabilities. The project will be implemented in collaboration with other community organizations and contracted artists and will include hands-on explorations of music, visual arts (painting, drawing and ceramics) and ballroom dance as well as in-house performances and community-based art experiences. 3 APS Fort Wayne Community Schools Foundation, Inc. Allen $4,750.00 The FWCS Foundation b Instrumental program provides musical instruments to students who otherwise would not be able to afford them in grades 7 through 12. It also provides summer music camps and small group music instruction. FWCS believes it is important to provide the experience of music to any student who wishes to participate. Funds will be used to fund expenses for summer music camps and instructors. 3 APS Fort Wayne Public Television Inc. (PBS39) Allen $4,750.00 The Violins of Hope is a collection of restored violins played by Jewish musicians during the Holocaust. The instruments have survived the concentration camps to tell stories of resilience and survival. In collaboration with the Fort Wayne Jewish Federation and the Fort Wayne Philharmonic, PBS39 seeks IAC funds to share these stories with northeast Indiana viewers in November 2019 via interviews, documentary and a concert broadcast of original works performed by the Fort Wayne Youth Symphony. 3 APS Japanese American Association of Indiana Allen $4,750.00 Grant funds will be used to present various artists at Fort Wayne's 2020 Cherry Blossom Festival, to be presented May 17, 2020, 12:00-5:00, at the downtown Allen County Public Library. Each year, this annual festival presents an array of Japanese cultural activities including music, art and food. A diverse audience of 10,000 people, children to senior citizens, have attended past Cherry Blossom Festivals free of charge and enjoyed Japanese culture in downtown Fort Wayne. The Decatur Sculpture Tour brings art to life by exhibiting sculpture in historic downtown Decatur, 20 miles southeast of Fort Wayne. The birthplace of metal sculpture artist David Smith, who is the father of modern sculpture, Decatur is singularly situated to celebrating art through this year-round outdoor exhibit. Sculptures are from artists around the nation. Sculptures are on loan, but can be purchased through the program.

3 APS Parkview Huntington Family YMCA Huntington $4,750.00 The Huntington Y School of the Arts serves 400 students through classes in 10 types of dance, including adaptive dance, a Dance outreach initiative, as well as instruction in piano, guitar, violin, viola, cello, and voice. Students also gain performance experience through our regular community productions. 3 APS Pathfinder Services Huntington $4,750.00 This grant requests $5,000 to host artist Katrina Mitten to present Native American-focused art activities and cultural education to people with and without disabilities at Huntington's new Creative Art Center. Activities will include: a 3-day workshop for 20 people with disabilities, a 3-day integrated workshop for 30 people with and without disabilities; and a culminating community exhibit/ discussion featuring Ms. Mitten's original art and the community art made during the two workshops. 3 APS ReDiscover Downtown Peru Inc Miami $4,750.00 ReDiscover Downtown Peru, Inc. hosts an annual festival the second weekend in June to foster music appreciation by celebrating the life and music of Cole Porter (one of Indiana's most favorite sons) with music, food, children's activities, tours, film, fine art and multimedia presentations. Voices of Homelessness is an art show featuring the photographs, artwork, and poetry of individuals who are or have experienced homelessness. In 2018, the artwork was displayed at a local restaurant during National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week. In 2019, we will do a similar event. The funds would be used to print, mount, and frame the work, print marketing materials, and promote the show, currently scheduled for February of 2020 at the Tippecanoe Arts Federation. 5 APS Central Indiana Powwow Inc Madison $5,000.00

The powwow will foster cultural awareness of Native art,culture and music to underserved populations through a two-day artist-in- residence program for elementary and secondary school students in tandem with a two-day powwow and Indian Market, utilizing an interdisciplinary approach encompassing fine arts, culture, dance, music, history and language. Funds will be used for performers, artists-in-residence, cultural presenters, art supplies, space rental and transportation costs.

5 APS Earlham College for the Chanticleer String Quartet Wayne $5,000.00 The Chanticleer String Quartet and pianist William Foster McDaniel will perform eight concerts in its Summer Music Festival and Caroline Klemperer Green, violinist in the Chanticleer String Quartet, will perform 30 children's programs throughout the year in elementary schools and other institutions. 5 APS East Central Indiana Chamber Orchestra Delaware $4,000.00 The funds received from the Indiana Arts Commission allow the ECICO to carry out its mission of bringing a fall,spring, and special outreach concerts of classical music to underserved areas and to support other musical organizations which strive to do the same. The funding is used to provide scholarship aid to deserving college students who play in the orchestra, a conductor stipend, to rent rehearsal and performance space in the Cornerstone Center for the Arts, and to purchase or rent music. 5 APS Hagerstown Nettle Creek Players Inc Wayne $5,000.00 A staff of visiting professional actors, designers, directors and technicians live in Hagerstown for 6 weeks while they rehearse and perform a series of three Broadway musicals in a giant circus tent in downtown Hagerstown, tour a production to venues throughout the region and the state, and teach a Young Actors Workshop which provides opportunities to area students ages 10-17 to learn and perform. Grant funds would offset licensing, promotion and production costs. 5 APS Hoosier Shakes, Inc. Grant $5,000.00 Hoosier Shakes will present two of Shakespeare's plays during the summer of 2020. Essentially, we perform two shows in repertory, five times eachweek, in four locations throughout Marion and Wabash. We enlist two directors, cast twelve actors, and employ a crew of four. Our total proposed budget is $49,100.00. Specifically, we would use the IAC funds to offset marketing ($1,000.00), production costs - i.e. costumes, props, etc. - ($2,000.00), and visiting director Stipends ($2,000.00). 5 APS Masterworks Chorale Inc. Delaware $5,000.00 Masterworks Chorale is requesting $5,000 to support our Fall 2019 Concert “Melodious Accord and Community Sing.” This unique, cultural experience will include a performance of Alice Parker’s well-known cantata, “Melodious Accord,” followed by an interactive community sing led by guest artist, Mr. Paul Vasile, who will unify performers and audience in melodic harmony to create a sense of community, empower singers of all ages and ability levels, and enliven and transform community life. 5 APS Minnetrista Delaware $5,000.00 Minnetrista requests funds to support the purchase of non-consumable painting supplies for the studio portion of the Bob Ross Experience, an immersive exhibit and workshop about painting and creativity. Set in the LL Ball home where WIPB filmed "The Joy of Painting with Bob Ross", the experience will reframe how people think about their mistakes, abilities, and self-expression through the story of Bob Ross in the house and community he painted in by inviting them to paint where he painted. 5 APS Muncie Children's Museum, INC Delaware $1,360.00 The Muncie Children’s Museum will offer free child friendly, hands-on sessions to paint on canvas with "Cookies and Canvases at the Museum". These four one-hour sessions will let twenty-five children each, ages five through ten, learn the basic skills of painting on canvas. These skills include balance, color theory, perspective, and decision making. These activities will take place on two Free Saturdays in 2020. IAC funds will pay for artist fees, artistic supplies, and some promotion. 5 APS National Center for Great Lakes Native American Culture Jay $5,000.00

6 APS DePauw University - School of Music Putnam $4,232.00 The annual DePauw Jazz Festival welcomes middle and high school jazz ensembles to participate in masterclasses with guest artists. This year the guest artists are from the internationally acclaimed jazz group the Vijay Iyer Sextet. Funding from the IAC will directly support the artistic fees for the Vijay Iyer Sextet for their work during the DePauw Jazz Festival including masterclasses, guest artists performing with the DePauw Jazz Band, and their Green Guest Artist Concert. 6 APS Indiana State University School of Music Vigo $4,232.00 The 53rd Contemporary Music Festival will be a three-day festival with internationally acclaimed composers, professional orchestra and guest ensemble. Members of surrounding communities, local schools, university students, and other guests will be invited to attend and participate in performances, educational activities, discussions, and social events focusing on trends in contemporary musical expression. IAC funds will be used to assist with publicity and travel for guest artists. 6 APS Indiana State University's Community School of the Arts Vigo $4,232.00 "Rock Camp", an intense 8-day and 7-night residency program, provides fun, educational opportunities for high-school students to benefit from professional, quality music instruction. Music education leads to the development of creative and critical problem- solving skills, higher self-esteem and pride in accomplishment. Funds enable eight 21st Century Scholars to experience music performance, business and history, providing them with the understanding that music can be a viable career choice. 6 APS Linda Luebke Strings Festival Vigo $4,232.00 Our project is to increase the impact we make with students and build a strong foundation for growth of the Festival. The goal is focused on reaching more fifth grade strings students to give them a solid introduction to their instrument and to build long-lasting members of the Festival. We will also target the fifth grade strings teachers to train them, along with their students, so they can take these skills back into their classrooms, impacting many children who did not attend the festival. 6 APS Rose-Hulman Vigo $4,232.00 To provide an evening performance of Tao: Drum Heart on Tuesday, March 17, 2020. Ticket prices will be a discounted rate of $29 for adults and $10 for children under 18 years of age. We will be partnering with Bill Felts at the 14th and Chestnut Community Center to provide a minimum of 50 free tickets to be distributed to children. The funds cover the cost of the MCT fees as well as providing scholarships for low income students who may otherwise not be able to attend the week long camp.

7 APS Greenwood Parks & Recreation (City of Greenwood) Johnson $3,900.00 Art on the Trail is a project that has been ongoing since 2014 in Greenwood. Artists lease sculptures to the City for installation along the corridor of Smith Valley Road known as the Polk Hill Trail. These public sculptures are then visible to all users of the trail as well as vehicular traffic in the area and become a well-recognized component of the landscape. IAC Grant funds would be used to pay a portion of the commissions to the artists in exchange for a 2 year loan of their sculptures. 7 APS Indiana Historical Society Marion $3,900.00 “You Are There: Madam Walker, Empowering Women” is an interactive history experience. Actors will portray real people including Madame C.J. Walker who was born to slaves, sought an education, and built a successful business that empowered other African American women to pursue entrepreneurial goals. She became a nationally popular lecturer on social, political, and economic issues. A community advisory committee will prepare actors, lead parts of the training, and evaluate their performances. 7 APS Indianapolis Shakespeare Company Marion $3,510.00 HAMLET, the 11th Mainstage Shakespeare production offered by the Indianapolis Shakespeare Company, Inc. (Indy Shakes), is part of our ongoing Company project to present a free outdoor professional production with complementary education/outreach activities each summer. The project comprises 2 residencies and 4 professional performances in Lawrence, Monroe and Owen counties for 4th-6th graders in 2019-20. IAC funds support performers, director, teachers and travel. Each residency includes 8 hours of music, dance, and history/culture instruction over a 2-week period, culminating in professional performances where Will Shakespeare tells his story interspersed with period music, dance and scenes from his plays. 8 APS Forgotten Clefs, Inc. Monroe $4,000.00 Shawms and Stories brings a 30-60 minute musical storytelling program for children and their families to area 8 libraries, museums, and community centers. In the third season, six performers tell a story, "Life of a Knight," that includes themes of Renaissance history and culture using music, costumes, choreographed sword fight, and visual projections. The Eskenazi Museum of Art will partner with the Advanced Visualization Lab and the MAD LAB at IU and Stone Belt, a nonprofit organization supporting individuals with disabilities, to create 15 3-D replicas of works of art in the museum's collection. The object replicas will be central to multi-sensory art therapy programming for individuals with disabilities with anticipated use for additional audiences such as PreK-12 students and teachers, university level programs, and other museum guests.

8 APS Jewish Theatre of Bloomington Monroe $4,000.00 The grant will be used to produce Anna Ziegler's play, "The Wanderers," which follows Esther and Schmuli, Orthodox Jews embarking on an arranged marriage, despite barely knowing each other, and Abe and Julia, high-profile celebrities embarking on a dangerously flirtatious correspondence, despite being married to other people. This drama explores the hidden connections between seemingly disparate people, drawing audiences into an intriguing puzzle and a deeply sympathetic look at modern love. 8 APS Let Music Speak Orange $4,000.00 PaoliFest is a completely free music and arts festival designed to create community, foster creative inspiration and empower youth. PaoliFest offers multiple genres of music, a kids stage and art area with all-day programming, community-driven art creations, craft demonstrations, food and art vendors and a teen film fest. IAC funds will be used for general program expenses, artist fees, equipment rental (stages, sound systems, lighting, porto-potty), publicity, permits, insurance, and more. 8 APS Maple Leaf Performing Arts Center Brown $750.00 Brown County's new performing arts center will open this fall. The Center's primary function is concerts, shows and entertainment experiences, but there are opportunities to showcase regional visual art throughout, including 150 feet of wall space and flexible, creative areas for displaying 3D and functional art, including cases and pedestals. The grant would be used to purchase exhibition signage and display cases custom made by local artists for 3D artwork. 8 APS MidWay Music Speaks Monroe $4,000.00

MidWay Music Festival is an outdoor and clubfest style music festival that features over 30 women-featured bands in four venues in Bloomington. In spring of 2018, Our Hospice of South Central Indiana began a new project Broadway Memories to bring awareness to its commitment to the nationally renowned “Music & Memory” program which brings personalized music into the lives of the elderly or infirm. Due to the success of the first effort, the organization repeating the project in September 2019. IAC funds will support artists fees/expenses with specific focus on an added masterclass and involvement of students from local high schools.

"Storyfest" brings live entertainment with an educational message to Switzerland County's children in grades 1 through 6. They discover there are many ways to tell a story, such as through music, dance, puppetry or theater. Groups rotate to three different locations, grades 1-3 on Thursday and grades 4-6 on Friday, for one-hour shows including a Q&A time, with a break for lunch. Home school families are also invited to attend. IAC funds would provide for three performance groups.

Funds will be used for the production of these events, including sets, props, costumes, pay for production staff, and show royalties. 10 APS Evansville Symphonic Band Vanderburgh $4,834.80 The Evansville Symphonic Band organization will plan and present a series of 3 concerts on June 7, 14, and 21, 2020. The concerts will feature guest soloists and incorporate outstanding high school band musicians. Those students selected will be recommended by area instrumental music teacher and nominated by the professional musicians performing with the band. In fiscal year 2020, the Indiana State Museum and Historic Sites will bring together artists and communities at both Angel Mounds State Historic Site and New Harmony State Historic Site in an effort to enrich the cultural and artistic offerings that are present in Southwest Indiana. Indiana Arts Commission funds will be used to support the development and implementation of both exhibitions.

The Children’s Museum of Evansville (cMoe) seeks support from the Arts Commission to present the Spotlight Performance Series for patrons of the Children’s Museum. Funds requested from the Arts Commission will be used for performer fees.

The project is a Holiday Play, "Assisted Living The Musical®: THE HOME... for the holidays". There will be six performances on December 6-7-8 and 13-14-15, 2019. Friday and Saturday performances are at 8pm and Sunday shows begin at 3pm. Funding sought from IAC will be used to offset production and promotion costs. Cast: 12 Men, 10 Women Aged 55+ (or made up to be!)

ParksFest is a free, all-day festival. Since 2014, ParksFest has provided outdoor music experiences for more than 25,000 people. We expect 10,000 people to show up for ParksFest 2019. The event features concert-quality live music from local & national acts, food trucks, hands-on kids activities, and more.The biggest expenses for ParksFest is related to the music. The grant money awarded would go straight to paying for the musicians and technicians to provide entertainment for the day.

Patchwork Central’s Arts & Smarts program provides unique arts experiences for children in Evansville. These activities are process- based, artist-led, and responsive to the children’s interests. They deepen low income families’ experience of the arts, and they teach children that art surrounds them everywhere they go. Arts activities take place daily. Additional program activities compliment these lessons in the arts. IAC funds will be used to support the arts portion of our daily activities.

10 APS University of Evansville - Department of Music Vanderburgh $4,834.80

To enrich the music education climate in our region, and increase collaboration and coordination among musicians and music educators in our community, the UE Department of Music annually hosts a Summer Music Camp for area middle and high school students from Southwest Indiana and the Tri-State. Students perform in band and orchestral ensembles, receive clinics, and take elective courses. IAC Funds would be to provide scholarships and for costs related to student counselors.

These exhibitions reflect the curatorial strategies of the New Harmony Gallery of Contemporary Art in that all exhibitions are selected based on the three primary goals of providing opportunity, the creation of dialogue, and building connectivity within the region. Finally, all exhibitions are free to the public and the gallery strives to create an accessible atmosphere for the community to view and discuss contemporary art. Costs include salaries, housing, and transportation. A small portion of the funds will go towards marketing. 10 APS Victory International Film Festival Vanderburgh $4,834.80 The event will be a 3 day festival in Sept 2019. Our opening evening will be at the historic Victory Theatre while viewing days will be in spaces along Main Street. Attendees will be view films from around the world and can experience our revitalized downtown district as they travel between venues. In addition to the grand prize, there will be student film awards for best overall and regional submissions. Funds will go towards office expenses, rental fees, promotional materials, and venue fees. 10 APS Vincennes University - Humanities Film and Lecture Council Knox $2,460.00 During the 2019-20 school year, the Vincennes University Humanities Film and Lecture Series (HFLS) will screen two films with group discussions for each film and host two symposiums for the Vincennes University campus and the greater Vincennes community. The Indiana Arts Commission grant funds will help the HFLS cover the cost of the films and receptions, and lodging and honoraria for speakers. 10 APS Vincennes University, Humanities Division, Shircliff Gallery of Art Knox $4,834.80 During the 2019-20 school year the Shircliff Gallery will present 8 exhibitions and 7 receptions with 7 lectures, 4 workshops and 3 portfolio reviews featuring artist in the exhibitions (all free and open to the public). The gallery's focus is to provide rich and varied arts education for students at Vincennes University and members of the surrounding communities. The purpose of the summer musical is to educate the community on the importance of artistic education, especially related to theater. This summer, our 23rd annual summer musical will be Disney's "Newsies." We believe this selection will provide a significant opportunity for historical and cultural education for our students and for the community. Our production will be the Regional Premier of this show, introducing our community to a show they have unlikely seen before.

We are planning on having four weeks of art programs for elementary school-age children, one week of art programs for teens and one week of art programs for adults. The Creative Impact Series is new to our public art programming in 2019. There are nine scheduled events that comprise the Creative Impact Series with artists, authors and community members coming together for facilitated demonstrations, take-away experiences and public art workshops - all held within the Arts Center in the newly accredited NoCo Arts and Cultural District in Jeffersonville , Indiana! JPAC is seeking funding to assist in paying for the Sculpture Artist in Residence.

Communities in Schools of Clark County will contract with Commonwealth Theatre: Blue Apple Outreach to bring performances to 15 elementary schools in Clark County in an assembly style presentation. Blue Apple Outreach will ensure the artistic content aligns with ISTEP+ standards. Teacher resources are made available to further the use of arts in the classroom. .

The grant will tie in performing & visual arts, literature, geology, & life choices. Students will analyze patterns of characters' good & bad choices in KY Shakespeare's 2-person Boy Meets Girl Meets Shakespeare performance featuring Hamlet. Students will submit drawings focused on Shakespeare for a bench carving competition. Students will learn about geology and use stone carving tools to carve a bench & necklaces. Students will donate bench to the community/Jeffersonville Public Library.

12 APS Harrison County Arts! Inc Harrison $5,000.00 Harrison County Arts!, Inc. (HCA) will bring art to the very busy Farmers Market on Friday nights. Members of the HCA will staff a booth and present a variety of free art programs for all ages to our community. Artists will also have an opportunity to sell their art work at this venue. Funds will be used to rent booth space, purchase supplies needed by the artists and to provide compensation to the artists. Admin- HCA will organize scheduling of the artists and their programs. Additional funding helps us to present professional quality performances and encourage performing arts appreciation in Southern Indiana. 12 APS Historical Society of Harrison County Harrison $5,000.00 The Historical Society of Harrison County has established a community-wide program to capture the stories of the small towns remaining in Harrison County, as well as those that have fallen by the wayside. Free, open to the public town hall meetings, at which local residents and interested participants gather to swap stories and information are scheduled. The Historical Society of Harrison County will compile tales, artwork, photos, maps, and other data into a professionally published booklet. 12 APS Indiana University on behalf of IU Southeast Ogle Center Floyd $5,000.00 The Ogle Center’s Children and Family Series brings high-quality educational and cultural programming to K-12 students in Southern Indiana at no cost to families or schools. We seek support from the Indiana Arts Commission to bring nationally recognized programming to the area. Through partnership with area schools, this project will reach a broad cross section of students. We expect up to 12,500 Southern Indiana residents to benefit directly from the series. 12 APS Jeffersonville Arts Alliance Clark $4,000.00

The Jeffersonville Arts Alliance would like to host community workshops on the art of lantern making. The ending result is an outdoor, nighttime, walking art exhibit of the community's creative pieces! The "Glow Parade" of light and color will add to the illuminated Steamboat Nights Heritage Festival occurring on Labor Day weekend this year. As this is our 3rd annual "Glow Parade" we are hoping the tradition will continue to grow and attract community members.

12 APS Jeffersonville High School Instrumental Band Boosters, Inc. Clark $5,000.00

Access to Artists, the proposed project, will provide a weekly group lesson by an accomplished professional musician to students in the Jeffersonville High School Band Program on their respective instruments. The project will be structured into the weekly band curriculum. The IAC Regional Arts Grants funds will be used to compensate the professional musicians for their services to the program. This funding would allow the organization to continue and expand the current program.

12 APS Lanesville Community School Corporation Harrison $5,000.00

Culture in the Arts brings Fine Art professionals exploring music, theater, visual arts and storytelling into our classrooms, grades K-12, during the 2019-2020 school year. This grant will allow us to expand our students' scope of the world for using visual arts, music and drama. The grant will allow our students to participate 3 music workshops, 4 visual arts workshops, 1 workshop in theatre , 1 family night, which ties art with math, 4 assemblies and support staff for our music department.

12 APS Lanier Mansion Foundation Jefferson $4,000.00

During the summer of 2019, the LMF will host a series of free concerts for the community at the Lanier Mansion State Historic Site in Madison, Indiana. This year's concert series includes: jazz, rhythm, blues, popular music from the 60's to today and original compositions. IAC funds will be used to support direct costs associated with the concert series, specifically artists' fees.

12 APS Madison Performing Arts Foundation Jefferson $5,000.00

The Madison Performing Arts Foundation proposes partial funding for its annual concert series. The 2019-2020 season will consist of ten concerts in the Madison, Indiana area. MPAF concerts typically occur in several downtown venues; all are free and open to the public. These live performances feature guest ensembles and soloists from out of the area as well as local talent. IAC grant funds will assist in paying for artists' fees, a piano tuning, publicity and printing costs.

Art at the Old Capital is a free family friendly event that showcases the artistry in our community from youth to adults. The event features painting, ceramics, Pottery, Fiber, Music, dance, photography, industrial, jewelry, glass, wood, theater and more. Visitors experience art education, demonstrations, and interactive opportunities. With the help of IAC we can continue to host and grow this community event. 12 APS North Harrison Band Boosters Harrison $5,000.00

North Harrison Band is struggling to find success due to low enrollment in the full band program and continuing turmoil. (We have had 5 band directors in the past four years.) North Harrison bands have found a niche with Winter Performance Arts which includes both winter drum line and winter guard. Indiana Arts Commission funds will be used to pay artistic instructors ($5,000) to advance North Harrison Winter Performance Ensemble students in 2019-2020. IAC funds will help us: host amateur photography contest; host online exhibit and travelling exhibits in community spaces; and give winners mounted prints of their work. 12 APS Ohio River Valley Folk Society Jefferson $5,000.00 Funding will support the RiverRoots Music Series, an offshoot of the two-day Americana music festival held each June in Madison. The project will keep the spirit of the Festival alive and continue to foster the community's appreciation of the genre. IAC funding will be used to engage a higher-tier performer for the series, while generating further interest in the festival. The project includes in- school musical performances and artists' songwriting workshops. 12 APS Southwestern Jefferson County Middle and High School Jefferson $5,000.00 Our organization provides music education and performance opportunities for the students of Southwestern Middle/High School. We provide music and performance instruction to students in grades 6-12, working with approximately 120 students. For our grant project, we intend to improve the educational experience of all of our students through expanded performance opportunities and venues and by supplying necessary materials to guarantee our students a quality music education experience. 12 APS West Crawford Elementary School, Crawford County Community SchoolCrawford Corporation $5,000.00 A fine arts presenter will provide art education monthly while a music presenter will provide music education weekly for K-5 students. Other fine arts activities will be presented throughout the school year and field trips will take place. The funds from the IAC will help support the fine arts program with matching funds from our local Parent/Teacher Organization, local businesses and our elementary school.
