ANNUAL REPORT Fiscal Year 2017: July 2016 – June 2017 Season 33 "I love to sing, I love connecting with my fellow members, and I love sharing our music with the community." — Jon Brockelman, Tenor 2 2 Welcome to CGMC Since 1985, Chicago Gay Men’s Chorus has been a leading voice of social justice, offering a safe and support- ive environment for LGBTQ+ performers to celebrate their talents and share our message of diversity and inclusivity through our shows. Fiscal year 2017 (from July 2016 – June 2017) included more than 40 public performances. In addition to our traditional programming, for the first time we also piloted a high school outreach program to share our message with the next generation. We plan to continue outreach programs like this in future years. The season kicked off in September 2016 with ourThe Great Gaymerican Songbook cabaret performance at Mayslake Peabody Estate in Oak Brook and the Uptown Underground on the north side of the city. Our holiday show Home for the Holidivas in December 2016 brought us to the Harris Theater, the North Shore Center for the Performing Arts in Skokie, and the Beverly Art Center. Lipsticks & Lyrics: The Dragtones, our live singing drag show in February 2017, featured several iconic girl groups, to the delight of our audience in four shows at Uptown Underground. Finally, our spring show *B-Town: From Barbershop to Boybands in May 2017 brought us back to rock the Harris Theater, North Shore Center for the Performing Arts, and the Beverly Arts Center. Outside of our regular mainstage shows, we performed at numerous community events across Chicagoland, including the Chicago AIDS Run/Walk opening ceremony, National Anthem for American Veterans for Equal Rights (AVER) memorial in Boystown and a Chicago Fire soccer game, Market Days, and Midsommarfest.

  • LUCAS CULTURAL ARTS MUSEUM MAYOR’S TASK FORCE REPORT | CHICAGO May 16, 2014
THE LUCAS CULTURAL ARTS MUSEUM MAYOR’S TASK FORCE REPORT | CHICAGO May 16, 2014 Mayor Rahm Emanuel City Hall - 121 N LaSalle St. Chicago, IL 60602 Dear Mayor Emanuel, As co-chairs of the Lucas Cultural Arts Museum Site Selection Task Force, we are delighted to provide you with our report and recommendation for a site for the Lucas Cultural Arts Museum. The response from Chicagoans to this opportunity has been tremendous. After considering more than 50 sites, discussing comments from our public forum and website, reviewing input from more than 300 students, and examining data from myriad sources, we are thrilled to recommend a site we believe not only meets the criteria you set out but also goes beyond to position the Museum as a new jewel in Chicago’s crown of iconic sites. Our recommendation offers to transform existing parking lots into a place where students, families, residents, and visitors from around our region and across the globe can learn together, enjoy nature, and be inspired. Speaking for all Task Force members, we were both honored to be asked to serve on this Task Force and a bit awed by your charge to us. The vision set forth by George Lucas is bold, and the stakes for Chicago are equally high. Chicago has a unique combination of attributes that sets it apart from other cities—a history of cultural vitality and groundbreaking arts, a tradition of achieving goals that once seemed impossible, a legacy of coming together around grand opportunities, and not least of all, a setting unrivaled in its natural and man-made beauty.

Mᴀɴᴅᴀʟᴀ South Asian Performing Arts mandalaarts.org Mandala Arts Mandala South Asian Performing Arts is a MacArthur award-winning organization, founded by Artistic Director Pranita Nayar. From classical to contemporary, Mandala Arts offers audiences an evocative exploration of the dance, theatre and music forms of South Asia. Our performances and productions have a connection to ancient and classical traditions, ranging from the Indian Ocean to the Himalayas, and from Persia to Indonesia. These practices evolve into the lived experiences of diaspora artists. We are dedicated to sharing cultural exchanges and experiences through our Academy, our company performances (Mandala Ensemble), and our outreach programs. Mandala's Ensemble artists bring their far-ranging aesthetics and vocabularies into the work. Mandala Arts has presented work at Chicago Symphony Center, Harris Theater, Logan Center for the Arts, the Art Institute of Chicago, and with Auditorium Theater. Executive Artistic Director Pranita Nayar founded Mandala Arts in 2014, where she serves as Executive Artistic Director. Pranita is a producer, curator, master teacher and choreographer whose work is rooted in South Asian dance forms and their changing contexts within the diaspora. Pranita has been an exponent of Bharatanatyam in the Chicagoland region for over 30 years, and her path has flowed into deconstruction of the movement vocabulary — from gesture to reassemblage. Pranita’s work has received many honors; she has been a Lab Artist with Chicago Dancemakers Forum (2016), received three MacArthur Awards through her leadership in South Asian arts, and is an 11-time recipient of the Master Teacher award given by Illinois Arts Council. Her work has been presented at the Lincoln Center, The Smithsonian Institute, Harris Theater (Chicago), the Olympics (Salt Lake City, 2002), and the MTV VMA’s (Shakira).
