Press Statement in response to human rights abuses against three women over the weekend of 7th to 9th April, 2017 The National Association of Women Organizations in Uganda-NAWOU responds with concern to a series of actions over the last three days by State and Non-State actors that have abused women’s human rights On Friday evening, Dr. Stella Nyanzi, an activist and Research Fellow at Makerere University was arrested by Police. Nyanzi has been using her social media platforms to advocate for pads for girls and to critique the Government for abuse and wastage of state resources, among other things. Her posts have been described in some quarters as lewd and obscene. And yet this same public voraciously reads tabloids that traffic in similar language without much protest, a double standard indeed! Nyanzi has been charged with cyber harassment and offensive communication. In a related incident, NTV news reporter, Gertrude Tumusiime Uwitware was kidnapped by unknown gun wielding actors on Saturday. Uwitware had previously received threats on Facebook after writing a blog post in support of Nyanzi’s activism. It was reported that she was threatened, beaten, driven around blindfolded for hours, and then dumped onto the streets. In another matter, a case of sexual harassment by a former employee of Aya Group against her former boss, Mohammed Hamid received notoriety but was overshadowed when State Minister for Labour, Employment and Industrial Relations, Herbert Kabafunzaki who was arbitrating it was arrested in a corruption sting operation. He was allegedly meeting in a hotel with the accused to receive a bribe to kill the case. -

Background 1.1 Location and Size Buikwe District lies in the Central region of Uganda, sharing borders with the District of Jinja in the East, Kayunga along river Sezibwa in the North, Mukono in the West, and Buvuma in Lake Victoria. The District Headquarters is in BUIKWE Town, situated along Kampala - Jinja road (11kms off Lugazi). Buikwe Town serves as an Administrative and commercial centre. Other urban centers include Lugazi, Njeru and Nkokonjeru Town Councils. Buikwe District has a total area of about 1209 Square Kilometres of which land area is 1209 square km. 1.2 Historical Background Buikwe District is one of the 28 districts of Uganda that were created under the local Government Act 1 of 1997. By the act of parliament, the district was inniatially one of the Counties of Mukono district but later declared an independent district in July 2009. The current Buikwe district consists of One County which is divided into three constituencies namely Buikwe North, Buikwe South and Buikwe West. It conatins 8 sub counties and 4 Town councils. 1.3 Geographical Features Topography The northern part of the district is flat but the southern region consists of sloping land with great many undulations; 75% of the land is less than 60o in slope. Most of Buikwe District lies on a high plateau (1000-1300) above sea level with some areas along Sezibwa River below 760m above sea level, Southern Buikwe is a raised plateau (1220-2440m) drained by River Sezibwa and River Musamya. -

In the course of its flow, it always benefits some, while depriving, or even in some cases harming others. The issues concerning distribution of water are closely intertwined with the distribution of risks, at the crux of which are questions related to how decisions related to water allocation and distribution are made. -
The Least Cost Generation Plan 2016
THE LEAST COST GENERATION PLAN 2016 – 2025 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY In 2013, the Authority developed a 5 year Least Cost Generation Plan (LCGP) that covered the period 2013 to 2018. An update of the LCGP has been undertaken covering a 10 year period of 2016 to 2025. The update involved review of the load forecast in light of changed parameters, commissioning dates for committed projects, costs of generation plants, transmission and distribution system investment requirements. In the update of the plan, similar to the Power Sector Investment Plan, prepared by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development, the ”Econometric Demand” forecasting method was used at distribution level to forecast Commercial, Medium Industry and Large Industry customer category demand. A bottom up approach was used for Domestic customer category using the end-user method. A Base Case, Low Case and High Case scenario were developed for sensitivity analysis. The resultant demand forecast was 6.5%, 3.6% and 12% growth rate in energy demand for the Base Case, Low Case and High Case scenarios respectively. This growth rate is lower than the projection in the 2013 LCGP of 10%, 5% and 14% for Base Case, Low Case and High Case respectively. A number of energy supply options were considered including Hydro, Peat, Solar PV, Bagasse Cogeneration, Wind and Natural Gas. The planned supply considered already existing, committed and candidate generation plants/projects with their estimated commissioning dates aligned. We note that more than 80% of the generation will come from hydro. 1 In the demand supply balance, Figure E1 shows the demand and supply balance over the planning period. -

Airtel Africa plc Results for the nine-month period ended 31 December 2020 29 January 2021 Another quarter of double-digit growth, with continued improvement in revenue growth and EBITDA profitability Highlights • Reported revenue increased by 13.8% to $2,870m with Q3’21 reported revenue growth of 19.5%. • Constant currency underlying revenue growth was 18.6%, with Q3’21 growth of 22.8%. Growth for the nine months was recorded across all regions: Nigeria up 21.6%, East Africa up 23.4% and Francophone Africa up 8.0%; and across all services, with voice revenue up 10.4%, data up 31.1% and mobile money up 34.2%. • Underlying EBITDA for the nine months was $1,297m, up 16% in reported currency while constant currency underlying EBITDA growth was 22.5%. • Underlying EBITDA margin for the nine months was 45.5%, up by 118 bps (up 144 bps in constant currency). Q3’21 underlying EBITDA margin was 46.9%. • Operating profit increased by 21.8% to $800m in reported currency, and by 29.9% in constant currency. • Free cash flow was $466m, up 20% compared to the same period last year. • Basic EPS was 5.5 cents, down 36.5%, largely due to prior year exceptional items and a one-off derivative gain. Excluding these, basic EPS rose by 19.8%. EPS before exceptional items was 5.0 cents. • Customer base up 11.0% to 118.9 million, with increased penetration across mobile data (customer base up 23.5%) and mobile money services (customer base up 29.0%). -

What the Gender Equality Seal is about: The Gender Equality Seal (GES) promotes investment in systems that integrate gender equality into the work environment and business strategies. It is a learning and certification programme, supported by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), to help businesses achieve Gender Equality, which is Goal Five of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. (SDGs). The SDGs (global goals), were signed up by world leaders in September 2015 at the United Nations General Assembly in New York. Private companies that get the Gender Equality Seal certification attain sustainable business growth, which in turn leads to sustainable development. Why getting the Seal is good for private companies: The Gender Equality Seal certification programme provides private companies a mechanism to level the playing field for both women and men at the work place. It also helps companies to make their human resource management systems equitable and more gender sensitive.
