This paper is entitled A Description of plot in Neil Burger’s film Divergent. Plot isone of the most important literary element in discussing the story. The plot itself has a structure which consists of exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution. Each structure parts are closely related; exposition is the beginning to introduce the characters and places, rising action is the marker of conflict that binding up to the climax, contemplation (falling action) and ending (resolution). In this novel tell a city that makes a system that divides the population into five . the faction is determined by the nature of which is inside each. In this research the writer uses qualitative description method to describe the plot which is presented in the film.

Kertas karya ini berjudul A Description of Plot in Neil Burger’s film Divergent.Plot adala salah satu unsur sastra yang paling penting dalam mendiskusikan sebuah cerita.Plot itu sendiri memiliki struktur yang terdiri dari exposition, rising action, climax, falling cation, resolution.Masing-masing bagian dari struktur itu terkait erat; exposition adalah awal memperkenalkan karakter dan tempat, rising action penanda konflik yang mengikat hingga sampai pada klimaks (climax), perenungan (falling action) dan akhir (resolution). Dalam novel ini di ceritakan tentang sebuah kota yang membuat sebuah sistem yang memisahkan penduduknya menjadi lima faksi. Faksi ditentukan melalui sifat yang ada dalam diri masing-masing.Dalam penelitian ini penulis menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif untuk menggambarkan plot yang sudah tersaji dalam film tersebut.

1.1 Background of the Study Literary works is an expression of the human person in the form of experience, thoughts, feelings, ideas, enthusiasm, belief in a form of an overview of life, which can evoke fascination with language tools and painted in the form of writings. Literary works is a kind of art, usually written offer pleasure and illumination. Literary works is also composition that tells us stories, dramatize situations, express emotions, and analyze advocate ideas. Wellek & Warren (1971:3) say, “Literature is the mirror of human life that portrays human feeling, thought, imagination and perception which can be viewed based on personal judgment.” There are three kinds of literary works, namely drama, prose and poetry. In this paper the writer want to discuss about drama. Drama are a type of visual communication which use moving pictures and sound to tell stories or inform. Drama presents all of human experiences. For this time, Divergent film directed by Neil Burger is a film that discussed. There are elements in literary works, namely intrinsic elements. Part of intrinsic elements are the theme, characters, plot, setting, and point of view. In this paper the writer just explains one of five elements, just focuses on plot. Roberts and Jacob (1995:52) say that “Plot is based on the interaction of causes and effects as they develop sequentially or chronologically.” Neil burger release this film on March 18, 2014 (Los Angeles Premiere) and March 21, 2014 (). Produced by , , Pouya Shabazian. Running time 139 minutes. Based on the novel of the same name by Veronica Roth with a screenplay by Evan Daugherty and Vanessa Taylor. It stars , , , , Ray Stevenson, , , Tony Goldwyn, , and . Divergent is the first series from four series, that are Divergent, , and Ascendant. The story takes place in a dystopian and post-apocalyptic Chicago where people are divided into distinct factions based on human virtues. Society is divided into five factions: Abnegation (the selfless), Amity (the peaceful), Candor (the honest), Dauntless (the brave) and Erudite (the intellectual) and Factionless (that doesn’t match in all faction). As for the category "Divergent" categories are not included into the fifth type of personality because it has many characteristics contained that stand out in her. That make Divergent is a threat for a system in this city because Divergent can destroy the system and it can not in control. Abnegation is a leader in this city because they have characteristic that suitable that is selfless. Amity as a farmers that produce a food for all faction. Candor

And Erudite that create all system and all that happen in this city. They make this system because they want to eliminate a real chacaracter of human. They trust with this system they can create a peace in the world. So, war not happen again. Chicago surrounded by the high wall. They don’t know what is and what happen behind the wall. And they forbidden everyone to go outside. Beatrice Prior played by Shailene Woodley is daughter from Prior family. That is her father Andrew Prior played by Tony Goldwyn, her mother Natalie Prior played by Ashley Judd and her brother Caled prior played by Ansel Elgort. They are part of Abnegation. But Beatrice Prior is a different from all people. She is a Divergent. Beatrice know that when she follow a test. When they are grow up they will follow a test, this test will determine where faction that macth for them. And if the result not match with their first faction, they must leave their family and life in their new faction. Because for them “faction before blood”. Beatrice and Caled choose a different faction and leave their family. Beatrice choose a Dauntless and Caleb choose an Erudite. They live in their faction with well and meet someone new. Until when an Erudite try to drop Abnegation, because Erudite thingking they are should be a leader in Chicago. They create a serum that can control the brain. They give it to Dauntless and lie. They says that serum is a tracker. And then Erudite start to control them and attack Abnegation. But this serum does not work to Beatrice because she is a Divergent. And she is rebel, she destroy Erudite’s plan and run away. The writer is interested in analyzing the plot used in the novel because it can show the sequence of conflict in the novel. The story is about how a woman trying to find her own identity. She came out of a good life and leave his family. She tried something new, something that is difficult for her, even though she left her family, she never forgot and keep loving her family. She kept trying until she could through the difficult thing. This film will tell us how to know our own self and how to choose our destiny. And we can determine our live and change our destiny like Beatrice Prior that choose what she likes not where she should be.

1.2 Problem of the Study How is the plot in film Divergent?

1.4 The Objective of the Study To describe the plot in the film Divergent.

1.5 The Significance of the Study The significances in this paper are : 1. Theoritically, the significance of this study is to enrich and develop literary study. 2. Practically, the study can be used as reference for learning and understanding about plot in the film.

1.6 The Methods of the Study Writing this paper needed some data which are relevant to the paper. To complete this paper the authors applies three methods, they are library research, internet and watched the movie. Library research for finding data to collect books which are relevant with the description of this paper and copy part of material in the book and internet to be reference .

Writing fiction is a type of writing that is not factual. Fiction writing is most often done to let you know what the important things from fictional raised by authors and fiction writing can also be a way to express the feelings of a writer or just for entertaining. This result may be a short story, novel, novella, screenplay or drama.

2.1 The Definition of Drama Drama are a type of visual communication which use moving pictures and sound to tell stories or inform . Drama also called film.There are few film adaptation of the novel. by watching the movie we will more easily understand any things that are contained within the story The film is one of the literary works that draw made in such a way to use the associated elements in them to produce something that can be enjoyed by others. By watching the film we can take or knows the storyline nor the trustee conveyed through the content of the film. There are two kinds of film if based on its contents, fiction and non fiction. As for the group in terms of audience, the film is divided into children's movies, teens, adults and all ages. In terms of the cast, the film is distinguished also become animated and non-animated. While according to duration, the movie's long and distinguished film short film. Fiction film is the kind of film that is only based on imagination. He's just the authors fiction, not reality. Does not happen in real life. If any occur in common, it's just a mere coincidence. Because fiction film is usually full with fantasy. And non fiction film is the kind of film that is not fictional, not a result of imajination/fiction. non fiction film is a film that is factual, the things contained in it are real, really exist in our lives.While according to HimawanPratista, (2008:1) a film formed of two elements, i.e. elements of narrative and cinematic elements. Narrative elements associated with this aspect of the story or theme of the film. Every movie story is impossible apart from narrative elements and each story definitely has elements such as characters, problems, conflicts, location, time, as well as other-other. The whole of the elements forming the narrative element in its entirety.Aspects of causality together elements of space and time is the principal constituent elements of a narrative. Film is something interesting that can entertain anyone who watched the film. Like Michael Rabiger says film is both interesting and entertaining, as well as make the audience think. Any existing artwork is unique and interesting so that there are

Film is a medium of communication is very important to communicate about something that happened in the life of a day – today, the Film has a strong reality one tells about the realities of the community. According to Roger 1986; 239) movies interpreted as the result of cultural and artistic expression tool. Mass communication as the film is a combination of a variety of technology services such as photography and sound recording, art fine art and theatre arts literature and architecture as well as art music. While according to HimawanPratista, (2008:1) a film formed of two elements, i.e. elements of narrative and cinematic elements. Narrative elements associated with this aspect of the story or theme of the film. Every movie story is impossible apart from narrative elements and each story definitely has elements such as characters, problems, conflicts, location, time, as well as other-other. The whole of the elements forming the narrative element in its entirety.Aspects of causality together elements of space and time is the principal constituent elements of a narrative. Thus it can be concluded that the notion of the film is a social medium of communication that is formed from the merger of the two senses, sight and hearing, contains about a story that is real and imaginary stories. If the movie is a non fiction films will have a core or themes of a story that a lot of social reality reveals that occurs around the neighborhood where the movie itself grows and if the movie is fiction will have core or themes that was created by the author. The film consists of two elements, namely extrinsic and intrinsic element. extrinsic element Is the element that comes from the outside but affects a story is presented. This means that elements extrinsic is not involved in the operations of the certa, but the presence of these elements strongly influenced the development of a story. Intrinsic elements are elements that build up the literary work itself (Nurgiyantoro, 2002). It is these elements that cause the literary present as a literary work, the elements of which are factual we will see if people read literary works. The intrinsic elements of a drama is elements (directly) participate to build story. a blend between the various elements makes an intrinsic drama of intangibles. Or conversely, if seen from the reader, our elements (story) this is what we will see if we read a script of the play.The elements intended are the theme, characters, plot, setting, and point of view.

Universitas Sumatera Utara 2.2 Plot One of the most important elements in discussing the story is Plot. Like Kennedy says Plot is an important element of fiction or literary work; even most of the readers consider it as the most important element among other elements of fiction. Such a structure even arising out of a conflict maybe called the plot of the story. As if many terms used in literary discussions, plot is blessed with several meanings. Sometimes it refers simply to the events in a story. Plot is the artistic arrangement of those events ( Kennedy, 1991:7 ). Plot is an element that deals with the events in the story are arranged chronologically by. Or the definition of the plot is a series of stories from beginning to end. How to set up the flow of the actions contained in the story should be related to each other. In a story, plot contains the elements of time order; either it is given explicitly or implicitly. Therefore there are earlier events, next events and the ending in a story. However, the plot in a fiction seldom serves events order chronologically and harmoniously, but it can be started and ended by whatever events. So that, the earlier step must not be at the beginning of story or text, but it can be wherever the authors wants.Plot is known as the foundation of a novel or story which the characters and settings are built around. It is meant to organize information and events in a logical manner. When writing the plot of a piece of literature, the author has to be careful that it does not dominate the other parts of the story. Plot develops a series of complications or intensification of the conflict that leads to a moment of great tension. Author uses techniques in writing plot to make the story interesting or to add a twist and turn. There are four types regarding to plot:

1. Suspense - Frequently involves dilemma, for instance: Caught in a bad situation with a choice in a boating accident, you can save either your mother or your husband form drowning. 2. Flashback - The author waits until the story is moving and then flashes back to reveal biographical data or deep psychological reasons why a character acts as s/he does. It focuses more on why things happen, rather than on what happens. 3. Telescoping - It’s a matter of economy. The author cannot describe every motion of the character or event during the time the story covers. S/he has to choose the significant and merely suggest the others by saying they happened, without much description. 4. Foreshadowing - The outcome of a conflict is often hinted at or foreshadowed before the climax and dénouement. These clues are usually very subtle which remain foreshadowed until the story ends.

Universitas Sumatera Utara Plot is the structure of a series of events in a story are arranged chronologically. Or the definition of the plot is a series of stories from the beginning to the end. the plot is set how the actions contained in the story should be related to each other, like how an event related to other events, and then how the character is portrayed in the story and acts that are entirely concerned. Plot has many different purposes. Firstly, the plot focuses attention on the important characters and their roles in the story. It motivates the characters to affect the story and connects the events in an orderly manner. It creates a desire for the reader to go on reading by absorbing them in the middle of the story, wanting to know what happens next. The plot leads to the climax, but by gradually releases the story in order to maintain the reader’s interest. The plot is what forms a memory in the readers’ mind, allowing them to think about the book and even making them want to read it again. By identifying and understanding the plot, the reader is able to understand the message being conveyed by the author and the explicit or implicit moral of the story. There are five main parts in a plot. The first is the exposition or the introduction. This is known as the beginning of the story where characters and setting are established. The conflict or main problem is introduced as well. The second element of a plot is known as the rising action which occurs when a series of events build up to the conflict. The main characters are established by the time the rising action of a plot occurs and at the same time, events begin to get complicated. It is during this part of a story that excitement, tension or crisis is encountered. The third element of a plot is known as the climax or the main point of the plot. This is the turning point of the story and is meant to be the moment of highest interest and emotion. The reader wonders what is going to happen next. The fourth element of a plot is known as falling action or the winding up of the story. Events and complications begin to resolve and the result of actions of the main characters are put forward. The last element of a plot is the resolution or the conclusion. It is the end of a story and ends with either a happy or a tragic ending Nurgiyantoro (1998:152-156) differentiates this plot in three majorities. They are plot of fortune, plot of character, and plot of thought. Plot of fortune characters connects to a story that tells about the luck and the fortune of the main character’s destiny in a novel. He divided this plot in to six kinds, they are:

1. Action plot is the plot which is arranged in conflict and the resolution. 2. Platonic plot is the plot which ends with sadness and makes the reader feel empathy. 3. Tragic plot is the plot which makes the reader feel affected because the main character who does not know about the problem that comes and had faced. 4. Punitive plot is the plot which ends with the failure of the main character that cannot attract the reader’s sympathy.

Universitas Sumatera Utara 5. Sentimental plot is the plot which the main character gets the victory after facing the problem 6. Admiration plot is the opposite of tragic plot which makes the reader admire because the main character can overcome the problem at the end. Plot of character refers to the importance of the character which becomes the focus of attention. Plot of character is more attentive with the characters condition than the events that related to the plot. The plots of character are:

1. Maturing plot is the plot in which the main character grows to be mature. 2. Reform plot is the plot in which the main character takes the responsibility of calamity. 3. Testing plot is the plot in which the main character leaves the failure and denies the dream. There are some kinds of plot: 1. Sirkuler, the story is concern in one topic or problem. 2. Linear, the story continues from the start to the end of the story. In thismovie, we can understand what the main topic in the movie because thescenes run continuously. 3. Foreshadowing, the story tells about the next events, but one time tells aboutone problem to another problem, and then tells about the first thing that has been told again at the first story. 4. Flashback, the story tells about something that happened in the past. Thismovie tries to retell something that happened in the past and make it as someknowledge for the future. It maybe tells about the autobiography, someexperiences, and so on. The plot is one of the most important parts of a story and has many different purposes. Firstly, the plot focuses attention on the important characters and their roles in the story. It motivates the characters to affect the story and connect the events in an orderly manner. It creates a desire for the reader to go on reading by absorbing them in the middle of the story, wanting to know what happens next. The plot leads to the climax, but by gradually releases the story in order to maintain the reader’s interest. During the plot of a book, a reader gets emotional and connects with the book, not allowing himself to put the book down. Eventually, the plot reveals the entire story and reached a clonclusion. The plot is what forms a memory in the reader’s mind, allowing them to think about the book even making them want to read it again. By identifying and understanding the plot, the reader is able to understand the message being by the author and the explicit or implicit moral of the story.

Universitas Sumatera Utara The types of grooves which can be divided into three types, the following explanation : 1. Progressive Plot, is a plot in a story when the events are shown chronologically, the first event is followed by the next events. In other word the story starts from the earlier step (situation, introduction, and conflict) then the middle step (rising, conflict, and climax) and finally the last step (solution). 2. Flashback Plot, is the plot in a story when the time order of the event is regressive or not chronologically. It means that the story is not started from the earlier step but from the middle or from the last step and then back to the beginning before reach the final. This plot serve conflict directly, event the conflict that almost reach climax, while the readers have not known the situation and the problem yet. 3. Mixed Plot, is the mixture between progressive plot and flashback plot. Because mixed plots have two kinds of plot, so it is difficult to be done, and almost none novel uses mixed plot.

Universitas Sumatera Utara 2.2.1 Parts of Plot Talking about plot means we talk about the actions that areusually resolved at the end of a story. The fictional plot maybe a struggle betweenopposing forces, love and many others and it is usually resolved by the end of thestory. There are five essential parts of plot:

1. Exposition - The exposition is the introduction to the characters andsetting of the story. The exposition hooks the reader, providing enoughinterest and information to the intended audience to encourage the readerto continue reading. 2. Rising Action - This is where the events in the story become complicatedand the conflict in the story is revealed (events between the introductionand climax). This part of the plot tells us what it is that the main character orprotagonist is facing. During the rising action, the main character struggleswith this conflict. The conflict may be: a. Character vs. character: the problem the protagonist faces is oneinvolving another character. b. Character vs. society: the protagonist faces a problem involvingsomething in the society in which they live (example: racism). c. Character vs. self: the character has some internal struggle insidethemselves. d. Character vs. nature: the protagonist struggles with some natural force(tornado, harsh climate, etc.). 3. Climax - The climax is the high point of the story, where a culmination ofevents creates the peak of the conflict. The climax usually features themost conflict and struggle, and usually reveals any secrets or missingpoints in the story. Alternatively, an anti-climax may occur, in which anexpectedly difficult event is revealed to be incredibly easy or of paltryimportance. Critics may also label the falling action as an anti-climax, oranti-climactic. The climax isn't always the most important scene in a story.In many stories, it is the last sentence, with no successive falling action orresolution. 4. Falling action - The falling action is the series of events which take placeafter the climax; it is where the protagonist must react to the changes thatoccur during the climax of the story. The events and complications begin to resolve them. 5. Resolution - This is the final of events or the end in thestory. The part of a story or drama which occurs after the climax andwhich establishes a new norm, and contains a conclusion or a solution to end the conflict.

3.1 Exposition The exposition of this novel is beginning in a city namely Chicago. In Chicago, their founders built the wall to keep them safe and divided them into five factions to keep the peace.There are Abnegation, home of the selfless, Dauntless, home of the brave, Amity, home of peace, Erudtie, home of intelligence, and Candor, home of honesty.The protagonist Beatrice Prior is getting ready to choose a faction. Right now Beatrice lives in her original home, Abnegation with her father Andrew Prior, her mother Natalie Prior and her brother Caleb Prior. Abnegation are trusted to run the government. Andrew Prior works alongside their leader, Marcus. Today Beatrice takes the test. The test will tell her, who she is and where she belong. she scared about the result, she scared to leave her family if the result not Abnegation and she scared too if she stay.

“100 years ago, after the war, our founders created a system they believed would prevent future conflict and create lasting peace. Today, aptitude testing based on your personality will assign you to one of the factions. While it is our belief that choosing the faction indicated by your test is the best way to ensure success within the faction system, it is your right tomorrow at the choosing ceremony to choosing any of the five factions, regardless of your test results. However, one the choice has been made, there will be no change permitted.” (Divergent, 2014: time 07:19)

In her test, she meet administering, Tori. When she is giving her test to find out which faction she's eligible for, she finds out something about herself that she never suspected. Beatrice is divergent. Being Divergent is very rare and very dangerous. It means that you can qualify for more than two factions and you are special in many ways. She can now choose from Erudite, Abnegation, or Dauntless.Tori says Beatrice to tell her family that the serum make she sick and not to tell anyone about her result. And then their going out the back door before supervisior comes.

Your results were inconclusive. That’s impossible. It doesn’t make any sense. No. Not impossible. It’s just extremely rare. They call it Divergent. You can tell anyone about this, Not even your parents. As far as the world is concerned, you received an Abnegation result because that is what I manually entered. So, what am I supposed to do at the choosing ceremony? I was supposed to learn what to do. This was supposed to tell me what faction to choose, the test. We’re supposed to trust the test. The test didn’t work on you. You have to trust yourself.” (Divergent, 2014: time 11:37)

At the choosing ceromony Beatrice has no idea what to pick. She feels guilty, scared, and nervous about everything. In ceremony she meet leader of Erudite, Jeanine Matthews. Caleb introduce him self to Jeanine and introduce Beatrice too. Jeanine give a suggestions to them, Beatrice against what Jeanine said and Caleb stop Beatrice.

“Well, you both have a big decision to make today. I’m sure your parents will support whatever choice you make. That’s not supposed to be a choice. The test should tell us what to do. You’re still free to choose. But you don’t really want that. Beatrice... I want you to choose who you truly are and where you truly belong. Not on a whim. Not because you wish you were someone you’re not. But because you honestly know yourself. I want you to choose wisely. And I know you will.” (Divergent, 2014: time 16:50)

As she walks forward to the table she slowly thinks to herself and makes her decision. Dauntless. And Caleb choose Erudite. Their parents really sad about their decision. In first time Beatrice in Dauntless, they come back to Dauntless with jump to train is running and she can make it. On the train, Beatrice meet Christina, her new friend that came from Candor. A few moments later, they arrived at Dauntless and their jump again when train is running. Beatrice and Christina jump together and they can make it. they come together and meet Eric Coulter, one of their leaders. Eric tell them to jump again because it is a way to become a Dauntless and he ask who become a first jumper. Beatrice with her courage propose her own self. She jump again and fall in nets that already prepared by Dauntless.

Universitas Sumatera Utara After that, she meet another leaders, Four. Beatrice changed her name. Now she called Tris . They follow Four to the Pit. Pit is the center of life here at Dauntless. And then Four escort they to their room. After they change their clothes, they come together for dinner. Max, Leader of the Dauntless welcome a new member of Dauntless.

“Initiates, stand. You have chosen to join the warrior faction tasked with the defense of this city and all it’s inhabitants. We believe in ordinary acts of bravery and the courage that drives one person to stand up for another. Respect that. Do us proud.”(Divergent, 2014: time 32:47)

There are two stages of training, the first is physical and the second is mental. If they can make it. They will gets cut and become a Factionless. Tris go through the training and she had trouble. she be the weakest and almost no hope to stay at Dauntless and Eric gets cut her. But she not give up and keep fighting no matter what happen with her self.

“I just figured that I had to make it. Who let you out? I did. You did? Okay. Lets sit you down. The game is simple. It’s like capture the flag. Weapon of choice. Two team, Four and I is captains. You pick first. Okay. Edward. I’ll take the stiff. Oh picking the weak ones. So you’ve got someone to blame when you lose. Something like that.” (Divergent, 2014: time 55:48)

Tris prove that she can make it and she can be a Dauntless with win a games that they made. And the result, Tris successful to stand in Dauntless. After that they started the second stages, mental. In this stages, Leaders give a serum to make them dreaming about their fear. Tris can finish that stages so fast and make Four suspicious. The second time, Tris finish that stages so fast again. Four ask her but Tris lie to him. Tris feel something wrong with Dauntless and Erudite. Erudite allied with Dauntless to drop Abnegation because Erudite wants to be a government in Chicago. Tris go out to Erudite to meet Caleb. Caleb drive out Tris because Caleb more trusted to Erudite.

I’m not like them. I mean, who is? They’re crazy. Maybe I can go back to Abnegation. You can’t go back. I know, but... They’re never gonna let you do that. Who? Erudite. They’re not gonna let Abnegation break any rules again. They actually think that they running the government now? They might be soon. Wait. Really? Erudite should be in charge. Crertainly not Abnegation. Wait, hold on Caleb. How can you say that? It’s what all the other faction want, now that Abnegation failed. No, that’s just they’re telling you here... It’s true. It’s not true. There are liars here. There are people who know how to manipulate you. You need to understand that. Beatrice. I think you should go. Faction before blood? Yeah? Got it. (Divergent, 2014: time 1:18:14)

When Tris back to Dauntless, she arrested by some people that use a mask. they trying to push Tris to a cliff. Before Tris fall down, Four come and save her. Tris open their mask and saw her friend, Al. She very shocked. Four bring her to take a rest. They get interested each other. In the morning, Al apologize to Tris. But she not forgiving and tell Al to stay away from her. Al go and not long after that, they hear someone fall down to a cliff. He is Al, Tris shocked and feelquilty. Four come and trying to comforting her.To help her to hide her identity, Divergent.

“Tris. Leave me alone. I’m sorry about Al. It’s my fault that he’s dead. No, It’s not because of you. He made his own choice. He would have been factionless. He was not gonna pass the final test. Neither am I . Why do you say that? You know why. And as soon as all the others find out, they’re gonna kill me. I’m gonna let that happen.” (Divergent, 2014: time 1:28:02)

3.2 Climax Four teach Tris how to be a Dauntless with way drink the serum together and in to his dreaming together. In his dreaming, they fight together and get success. After they finish that. They back to Four’s room to get a rest. And when they talking about Four’s fears, they realize that they have a same felling. They fall in love and having a relationship.

You wanna see it? It’s amazing. The factions. What do you have all of them? I don’t want to be just one thing. I can’t be. I want to be brave and I want to be selfless. Intellegent and honest and kind.Although I’m still working on ‘kind’. I don’t wanna go too fast. it’s okay. I’ve already got my spot on the floor.”(Divergent, 2014: time 1:33:39)

In the morning, Four shows Tris something, Erudite come to Dauntless. Erudite come for supplies computers and some kind of cognitive transmitter. Like a serum. It’s supposed to make more susceptible to suggestion, and Erudite want to use it to member of Dauntless and create an army. Tris do her final test and finish it very good. After that, Max give they a speech to welcome they as a new members of Dauntless. And they told to all of members of Dauntless to line up and give them serum. But leaders of Dauntless, Max and Eric lies and tell them that is a tracking device. Tris looking for a Four but she don’t find him. Eric give that serum to Tris. In the morning, everyone changed. They behave like a robot. But Tris don’t feel anything change in her self because she is a Divergent. To hide her identity, she pretendher self like others that leaders of Dauntless not suspicious. They brought them to a train towards to Abnegation. In the train, Tris meet Four. she think four was controlled. But she is wrong, Four not in controlled, Four holding Tris’s hand. When they arrive in Abnegation, they quickly slaughtered everyone. They come in to their house and tell them to go out. Tris and Four go to Tris’s house to save her family. But they aren’t there. So, they go out and keep looking. They meet Eric. Eric suspicious to Four and he want to shoot Four.ButTris directing her gun to Eric too.Tris and Four be caught. Erudite bring Four and Tris will killed by them. But before it happen, her mother, Natalie save her and Tris knows her mother is a Dauntless too.

“Beatrice! Mom? Mom! Beatrice. Okay. We gotta run! You were Dauntless. Served me well today. Is Dad okay? Yes, He led a group over to Monroe and State. We’re gonna meet him there. Let’s go! “(Divergent, 2014: time 1:51:57)

They fight together, in their fight Tris lost her mother. She is really sad. She loves her mother so. Tris go to meet her father alone. When she meet her father,

They go to Dauntless. Because there is control room. They get in Dauntless by train and jump from building like Tris. They are get in Dauntless. Tris saw Peter stand in front of room. He directing her gun to Peter and asked where is Erudite controlling the situation, But Peter do not want to tell her. Tris shoot him, then Peter tell her and escort them. There a army that stand to keep the room. Andrew with brave fight them first. But something that undesirable happen. Andrew is shot. Tris can’t say anything because she lost her parents in a same time. Tris get i to the room. She saw Four and save him. But Four is in controlling. He hit Tris. Tris try to consciuosing Four, but she can’t. Jeanine come and tellTris that she can’t make Four conscious.

“He can’t hear you. Amazing, isn’t it? Everything we think of that makes up a person, thoughts, emotions, history. All wiped away by chemistry. Four. He’s gone. And we’re safer for it. safer? How are we safer? The briliance of the faction system. Is comformity to the faction removes the threat of anyone exercising their independent will. Divergents threaten that system. don’t get me wrong. Tehre’s a certain beauty in your resistance. your defiance of categorization. But it’s a beauty we can’t afford.” (Divergent, 2014: time 2:02:33)

3.3 Resolution The resolution in this film is, when Four hit Tris again, Tris keep trying to make him conscious. Tris take the gun and directing the gun to Four. This do not make Four conscious. Tris directing the gun to her self. That’s a makes Four conscious and Four take the gun. Tris give a code to Four.

“Four, stop! Stop! Stop... Four, please... it’s okay, it’s okay. I love you, it’s okay. Four look at me, look at me. it’s me. It’s me. Tris... Go” (Divergent, 2014: time 2:04:34)

They fight together. Jeanine run and accelerate to controlling member of Dauntless to kill Abnegations. Tris saw her and run toward Jeanine. Tris throw her

“Shut it down. No. I am not gonna ask you again, do it! shut it down. I admire you willing to die for what you believe. But so am I. You can’t do it, can you?” (Divergent, 2014: time 2:06:27)

Jeanine keep do not gonna shut down the program. Tris think and give a code to Four. Four take the serum that given to Dauntless. Four throw it to Tris. And tris inject it to Jeanine. Jeanine is in controlling, she unconscious. Tris tell Jeanine to shut down the program. Jeanine do it. The program is stopped. Jeanine wake up and try to bring back the program. But it already deleted.

“Maybe you’re not quite as Dauntless as you thought youwere. You’re right. I’m not. I’m Divergent. Now shut it down and wipe the program. Simulation abort. system-wideshutdown. Noo... no... no! Don’t get me wrong. There’s a certain beauty to your resistance.” (Divergent, 2014: time 2:07:32)

They can make it. After they destroy the program, Max and others come. Four and Tris run. Out there Four meet with his father, Marcus. Four look at him and do not say anything. They also keep moving.

“Tris... lockdown now in effect. All right let’s move. We gotta go now. Tobias. We need to keep moving. All right, move! Son! I got it. I know you do. My mom and dad died today. They’re gone. I know. But they loved you Tris. For them, there was no better way to show you. Now we have nothing. We have no home, no faction. I don’t even know who I am anymore. I know exactly who you are. We’re like the factionless now. We’ve left everything behind. But we found our selves and each other. Tomorrow we may have to fight again.but for now,we’ll ride the train to the end of the line and then we’ll jump.(Divergent, 2014: time 2:09:03).

4.1 Conclusion The plot used in the film of Divergent is progressive plot. Progressive plot means that the plot content is chronologically narrated. It simply contains the beginning , middle, and an ending. Exposition of the story is Beatrice follow the test and know that she is a Divergent. Climax of the story is Erudite give a serum to a Dauntless to controlling them.And then Dauntless with unconscious attack Abnegation. Beatrice and Four fight together to destroy Erudite. Resolution of the story is Beatrice and Four successfully destroy program that make of Erudite and they run away.

4.2 Suggestion Plot is the soul of literary work, so it is important to look at the plot first when analyzing literary work. Analyzing the plot can help the reader to understand the entire story of the film. Plot refers the conflict, so the reader can read a literary work if it is fundamentally related plot. This film told a city that make system to keep a peace with make a five factions . Watching the film is meant to understand about trouble in a city. Thus, readers are asked to deal with this film for further research.
