Thespian of the Year AWARD MESSAGE FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT

Sharing the talents, achievements, and community involvement of the students and staff of Kingsway is one of my greatest joys. The pages of Inside Kingsway clearly will demonstrate why I take such pride in student and staff accomplishments.

Special Guests Visit Kingsway Kingsway hosted many special guests over the last few months, including the children of our faculty and staff during Bring Your Child to Work Day. There likely are some future Kingsway employees among those who visited. The children were fun and gave us all much to look forward to in the future. Another group of visitors brought a very different message to Kingsway — one of fighting against addiction and combatting the stigma associated with seeking help for our loved ones who are struggling with this disease. Kingway’s STEP Students Learn by Doing (continued from page 7)

Since 2013, Kingsway’s Structured, Transitional Education Program (STEP) students have had the unique opportunity to engage in Community Based Instruction (CBI) and Structured Learning Experiences (SLE). Simply put, these models permit students to learn outside of the classroom through experiences in the community and at local businesses. CBI is educational instruction in naturally occurring community environments providing students “real life experiences”. Kingsway Fields Team at First Unified Sports Track & Field Meet

ingsway proudly participated in the first Unified Sports Track & Field KMeet on Wednesday, April 25. Delsea High School hosted Kingsway, Cinnaminson, and Clayton High Schools. Unified Sports is a branch of the Special Olympics designed to promote inclusion and break down social barriers by joining students with disabilities with partners without disabilities to create a team which competes side-by-side.

Kingsway brought a bus filled with the school’s varsity track-and- field athletes to support the Unified squad. “We had to cut it off at 40 [students],” said Kingsway track coach Christian Lynch. “That’s all we could fit on the bus.”

Athletes participated in the shot put, long jump, 100 meters, 200, 400, and 4×100 relay. The majority of the competitors were students with special needs, with their partners providing assistance and running two legs of the relays.

Each participant earned a medal and posed for photos. The top three finishers in each event took home a trophy as well. Kingsway’s own, Gabbie Reed earned a third-place trophy for the 200 meter! In addition to Gabbie, Kingsway competitors included A.J. Roney, and Lexie Reed, with help from Lexi Mullarkey, Kylie Anicic, Stone Caraccio, Kieran Burns, Cole Hindley, Cameryn Martin, Brian Mangiaracina, and Jack Fitzpatrick.
