21-04 Dumbarnie Golf Inc Award DRAFT II DUMBARNIE LINKS NAMED 2021 DEVELOPMENT OF THE YEAR BY GOLF INC. FIFE, Scotland (April __, 2021) – Dumbarnie Links, a daily-fee links course located on the east coast of Scotland near St Andrews, has been honoured by Golf Inc. magazine as the 2021 Development of the Year. Golf Inc., the world's only magazine for golf course developers, owners and management company executives, annually recognizes the best golf developments around the globe in its Development of the Year competition. According to Golf Inc., judges selected Dumbarnie Links as the competition winner for its world-class design and its focus on environmental stewardship and long-term sustainability. Dumbarnie Links opened for play on May 29, 2020 and has since received high acclaim throughout the golf world. The stunning Clive Clark design, located eleven miles from St Andrews, measures 6,905-yards (can be stretched to 7,600 yards for professional competitions) and plays to a par of 72. Dumbarnie Links is built upon land that is part of the historic 5,000-acre Balcarres Estate. Its 345 acres of genuine sandy links land offers unobstructed views over Largo Bay and the Firth of Forth, a 10-mile wide stretch of water with views across to Muirfield, North Berwick and Edinburgh. The routing is a departure from the usual. Instead of the traditional out-and-back layout, Clark incorporated a mix of two big loops with elevated tees facing into the Firth of Forth. Golf Inc. Competition Judge Casey Paulson said of Dumbarnie Links, “Beautiful seaside golf links with great shaping and routing. Looks like this will be another wonderful course for golf vacationers.” Judge Mike Nuzzo commented, “By far the best routing of the entrants. The course zigzags through what looks almost like links land, expertly creating variety and interest throughout the round.” “My vision was to design a traditional links on what is a rare piece of genuine links land, but with a modern twist,” said Dumbarnie Links Founder and Architect Clive Clark. “There are a number of ‘risk and reward’ holes such that Dumbarnie Links becomes a strategic thinking man’s (or woman’s) golf course, but is fun for all. There are three driveable par-4s (under favourable conditions) but in order to cut the doglegs the golfer has to take a gamble and decide whether he or she is going to be a hero. There are also some twin fairways which create choices off the tee.” With Covid-19 travel restrictions in place since the Club opened, the Scottish golf community has embraced the Links as their own and have enjoyed many, many rounds at Dumbarnie. This summer the rest of the world will get to see Dumbarnie Links on television as the course will host the Women’s Scottish Open August 9 – 15, 2021. • An Extraordinary Life in Golf
An Extraordinary Life in Golf The first recipient of the BIGGA Lifetime Achievement Award, Sir Michael Bonallack OBE chats with Scott MacCallum about his life in the game. Visit Sir Michael Bonallack's home, near St Andrews, and you can spend a few moments taking in the vast array of photographs which adorn the walls. Like many who have been fortunate to meet and even play with some of the top players and legends of the game there are pictures of Sir Michael in the company with all sorts of notables, including several Open Champions. However, unlike the rest of us who have been lucky enough to have had our picture taken in the company of celebrities, in Sir Michael's case it is just as likely that those very stars have the same image on their walls. The fact is that they are just as anxious to have their picture taken with him as we would be with them. Sir Michael Bonallack OBE is a man who has reached the top in two spheres of the game. As a player he has been described as the finest British amateur of the 20th Century and a player who could hold his own when measured against the top professionals of the day. As an administrator and, more specifically, Secretary of the R&A, it was his hand on the tiller as the game developed and increased in popularity through the 80s and 90s. Just a mild probing of his life uncovers a man who has dined with Bobby Jones; played in The Masters with Ben Hogan; The Open with Gary Player and Lee Trevino; won five Amateur Championships; been Playing Captain of a winning Walker Cup team.

  • Province of Cádiz Golf Guide
Province of Cádiz golf guide 1 2 The province of Cadiz is located in southern Europe, where the old continent meets Africa - hardly separated by the Straits of Gibraltar. Thanks to this privileged geographic position, Cadiz today has one of the best tourist offers in Spain. Cadiz has always been proud of its art: the art of flamenco, the Art on the golf course art of gastronomy, cultural art and now… art on the greens. Severiano Ballesteros, Nick Faldo, Tiger Woods, Colin Montgomerie, Olazábal, Sergio García...the best golfers in the world have left us with some great memories on these southern Andalusian courses; some by winning the Ryder Cup in Valderrama, others by triumphing at the Volvo Masters in Montecastillo. Some, like R. Trent Jones and Jack Nicklaus, have even made their mark by designing the courses. The best thing about the province of Cadiz is its sheer variety: putting with a breathtaking view of the Mediterranean or the Atlantic, testing yourself on the links, enjoying the fast greens or weaving your way between lakes and bunkers. There are twenty-two courses in all, and thousands of golfing enthusiasts come to the province of Cadiz to follow in the footsteps of the greats; to a place where environmental consideration is a priority. A sustainable destination, given that 30% of its territory is protected. 3 There have been many reasons to come to Cadiz in over In Sotogrande, Costa Ballena and Sancti Petri, it’s all about 3,000 years of history. And golf is one of them, although luxury within reach; the Strait and the Bay of Cadiz are a birds’ there are many others - visiting the bodegas in Jerez, for paradise, while in the heart of the province is the Alcornocales example, and ending up like Lord Byron, saying, “Oh Cadiz, Nature Park, a primitive forest - the best preserved woods on wonderful Cadiz, you are the best place in the world!”.
