Christ Church Detroit Detroit, Michigan

The oldest Protestant church in Michigan began construction in the English Gothic Revival style by Master Architect Gordon W. Loyd in 1860. Additionally, the site includes the Sibley House, designed in the Greek Revival style (1848); Ledyard Hall in the Tudor style (1924); and an office addition in 1957. The renovation and addition united all four structures, provided a new south entry, adapted the Sibley House to accommodate church offices, modernized Ledyard Hall classrooms, and achieved ADA and life safety conformance. Additional work included a small commercial warming kitchen to serve the assembly hall and the Christ NET program.

Alvah N. Belding Memorial Library Belding, Michigan

Nestled in a small town approximately 35 miles east of Grand Rapids, the library is a cultural focal point for the people of Belding and its surrounding communities. The library was a gift to the city from Alvah Belding, whose father and uncle owned silk mills for which the city was famous. Built in 1918, the building is a fine example of the Beaux—Arts Classical Style. In 1999, after careful analysis of the buildings existing condition and its need for more space, it was determined that a 6,200sf addition would be developed. The original exterior of the building is lndiana limestone with a green tile roof. Reflective of the original historic structure, the addition was designed to blend with, but not mimic the original design. In order to visually lighten the mass of the addition, a glazing curtain wall system was purposely placed along the river. The interior planning opens the building up l to the incredible river views. 1
