Dear Central Office, Executive Committee, and Board ofDirectors,

I am writing to you to recommend the installation of the West Virginia University colony as a chapter of Delta Sigma Pi. I have had several conversations with Kris White, the president of the colony, and have had the opportunity to discuss the fraternity and the operations of the colony with him. He sent me a letter of the chapters intent to petition for initiation as well as a calendar of activities for the semester. I called Kris to make a few inquires and suggestions and he seemed very well informed as well as receptive to recommendations. I also recommended that the colony send a representative to the Pittsburgh Area Conference, which was held the last weekend in January. The purpose of this suggestion was two fold. I wanted to personally meet with someone from the chapter to make an assessment and I also wanted the colony to experience meeting with brothers from other chapters. I felt that they may gain valuable insight into what would be expected of them as a chapter. The colony sent three representatives to the conference. They participated in all of the seminars and gained new information as well as sharing their unique perspective with the chapters in attendance. I feel that they have the enthusiasm and dedication that it takes to succeed as a chapter, and hope that you will confirm their intent.

Fraternally,

Delta Sigma Pi Board of Directors February 3, 1995 The Central Office 330 South Campus Avenue P.O. Box 230 Oxford, OH 45056-0230

Dear Directors:

I had the opportuinity a few years ago while I was the Dean of the College of Business and Economics at West Virginia University to help initiate what was then the B & E Club. At that time the purpose of the club was twofold. First, it would be a coed cross discipline professional business student group. Second, a major focus would be on involving both business and pre-business majors.

I recently returned to the faculty. As a faculty member I have worked with the club and have agreed to serve as one of the club's advisors. I am very pleased to see how the club has evolved. It is now time for the club to grow even further. As a member of Delta Sigma Pi, I am extremely supportive of the fact that the students are interested in becoming a full member in Delta Sigma Pi.

As it was for me, I believe acquiring full membership in Delta Sigma Pi will be an excellent opportunity for the students. College of Business and Economics, and West Virginia University. I endorse their effort and encourage you to give positive consideration to the petition for membership.

Sincerely,

Cyril M. Logar Professor of Marketing

University West Virginia University is both a comprehensive university offering 176 degree programs from the bachelor's through the doctoral level and a decentralized group of 15 colleges and schools on two campuses in Morgantown. Dividing West Virginia University into tow campuses helps to maintain the friendly and informal atmosphere of smaller institutions. The Personal Rapid Transit (PRT) System, which was built by the US Department of Transportation as a national research and demonstration project, connects the two campuses. West Virginia University is one of only 24 state universities in the nation that serve as both the comprehensive and land-grant institutions in their states. They are called land-grant institutions because the Congressional act establishing them in 1 862 gave federally owned land to each state, which then sold the land and used the funds to begin a college offering programs in agriculture and engineering. Since its founding in 1867, W.V.U. has developed into the center of graduate and professional education, research, and extension programs in West Virginia. Coal and energy are a major focus of University research because of W.V.U. 's location in the heart of the eastern coal fields. In July, 1989, the University became a part of the University of West Virginia, under the governance of the University of West Virginia Board of Trustees. The Morgantown campuses contain 140 buildings on over 1,000 acres; libraries with over 1.5 million books, over 1.4 million microforms and microfilms, and over 9,000 periodicals. The campuses are changing rapidly. Within the past few years on the Evansdale Campus, three new buildings dedicated to technology ( the new College of Mineral and Energy Resources, the new Engineering Research Building, and the new Center for Energy Research ) and the new Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center have been completed and are operational. Downtown, the College of Business and Economics has moved into its new building on the site of the old Mountaineer Field. West Virginia University also has branches throughout the state and operates experiment farms; five experiment forests; a geology camp; the State 4-H Camp and a museum of mid-nineteenth century life at Jackson's Mill.

Over the years, 23 students from the University have received Rhodes Scholarships to continue their studies at Oxford University. Today West Virginia University has students come from all 55 West Virginia counties, 49 other states, and 74 foreign countries. West Virginia University currently has 22,500 students enrolled. Of these, 649 are students of the College of Business and Economics. A breakdown of the number of students in each business major is as follows:

History of the Petitioning Group

In the Spring semester of 1992, the Business & Economics Club originated on the campus of West Virginia University. The purpose of this organization was to bring students together to discuss classes, to discuss career paths, and to get involved in campus activities. The B&E Club helped Pre-Business & Economics students decide which field of business to pursue. During each semester, a professor from each field would spend an evening with the club answering any questions the students may have concerning the majors Accounting, Economics, Finance, Management, and Marketing.

The members of the B&E Club wanted more than what the club had to offer. They wanted an organization that could open the professional world to them. The club started inviting organizations in the corporate world to do presentations. Corporations such as Mylan Pharmaceuticals, which is traded on the New York Stock Exchange, and Prudential have visited with the club to discuss topics such as "business ethics" and "customer relations."

The club decided it would like to be more than just a club. The students want to interact with other campuses in order to network and to stay unified after graduation. The best way to reach these goals is to establish a chapter of Delta Sigma Pi, the co-ed professional business fraternity.

The Delta Theta Sigma Colony of Delta Sigma Pi - continues to offer Pre-Business & Economics majors the opportunity to talk with the Business & Economics College professors. The colony has been involved with community service activities to help United Way and to help brighten needy children's holidays with a toy drive. Presentations with company's such as One Valley Bank and tours with company's like Kmart have revealed the business world to our members. Members are involved in committees including Finance, Motivation, Petition, Professional Activities, Recruiting, Service, and CEI.

We would like to continue this success as a chapter of Delta Sigma Pi. We propose the following dates to install our chapter and to add another terrific moment to our experiences in the business environment:

o Saturday April 1 and Sunday April 2, 1995 o Saturday April 8 and Sunday April 9, 1995 o Saturday April 22 and Sunday April 23, 1995 Delta Theta Sigma Colony West Virginia University
