VANCOUVER ʹPeter Fassbender, Minister of Community, Sport, and Cultural Development and Minister Responsible for TransLink, has appointed two representatives to the TransLink board of directors.

Appointed to the TransLink board of directors are:

‡ Jim Chu, former chief constable of the Police Department. ‡ Murray Dinwoodie, former city manager, City of Surrey.

With their backgrounds in large operating agencies, Mr. Chu and Mr. Dinwoodie bring a wealth of experience to the table, which will be invaluable to the TransLink board as it provides leadership to the operations of TransLink. These new board members are well positioned to contribute their ideas respecting the values of fiscal prudence and accountability to taxpayers, principles which the Province believes are fundamental to any organization charged with delivering taxpayer-funded services.

Biography of Jim Chu

Jim currently is a vice president with the Aquilini Investment Group. He retired from the Vancouver Police Department in May 2015 after serving 36 years, including eight years as Chief Constable. He holds a bachelor of business administration from and a masters in business administration from the University of British Columbia.

Jim was elected president of the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police and served from 2012 to 2014. He has received an honorary doctorate from the Justice Institute of BC, an Outstanding Alumni award from Simon Fraser University, a Queen͛s Diamond Jubilee medal, and was invested into the Order of Merit of Police Services by the Governor General. He has served on the boards of the Streetohome Foundation, the Justice Institute of BC, the Richmond Public Library (chair 1994-96), and is past president of the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police.

Biography of Murray Dinwoodie

Murray Dinwoodie retired as the city manager of the City of Surrey in 2014, having been in that position for eight years. Prior to holding the city manager position, Mr. Dinwoodie held the position of general manager, planning and development for the City of Surrey from 1998 to 2006. Under his leadership, the City of Surrey grew from a population of just over 300,000 in 1998 to a city of over a half a million people by 2014. In the position of city manager, Mr. Dinwoodie was responsible for overseeing the delivery of municipal services to the city͛s residents and businesses by over 4,000 employees. Mr. Dinwoodie has served in local government for over 30 years.

Mr. Dinwoodie served as a director on the board of the Surrey City Development Corporation, was a founding member of the Surrey Housing and Homelessness Society, and was a member of the Advisory Council of the Sophie͛s Place Child Advocacy Centre. He was also a member of the Simon Fraser University Surrey President's Advisory Council from 2006 to 2014. During his eight years as city manager, Mr. Dinwoodie also sat as a member of the Metro Vancouver Regional Administrators Advisory Committee, which addresses pan-regional issues and opportunities.

Mr. Dinwoodie has a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering and master of business administration, degree both from the University of Manitoba, and is registered professional engineer.
