Dakshinamurthi is an aspect of the Hindu God Shiva as a guru (teacher) of all types of knowledge (gyana). This aspect of Shiva is his personification as the supreme or the ultimate awareness, understanding and knowledge. This form represents Shiva as a teacher of yoga, music, and wisdom, and giving exposition on the shastras. He is worshipped as the god of wisdom, complete and rewarding meditation. Benefits of worshipping Lord Dakshina Murthi include excelling in studies and education, gain wisdom, knowledge and intellect, self-knowledge, self- empowerment and spiritual uplift. All living beings on this planet earth are influenced by the magnetic forces of astral bodies. In particular, as planets go around the Sun, they have profound effects on each of us through their gravity and magnetism. The term Navagraha denotes the nine celestial bodies which are central to astrological calculations. Guru, or Jupiter, is considered a highly favorable graha or planet in Hindu astrology and it is believed to bring luck and prosperity. Guru (Jupiter) enters Simha Rasi (Leo) on July 13 2015. Shiva-Vishnu Temple will perform Dakshina Murthi homam and Navagraha Shanti homam on the event of this transit, to balance the effects of the transit and make the period favorable to all of us.
