  • CHEVROLETTER September 2020
CHEVROLETTER September 2020 Vol 2020 Issue 9.0 Director’s Report September 2020 Another month has slipped away and there is not much new to report. I hope everyone is healthy and safe and making the best of a bad situation. Recently I was informed of the passing of John White, a New Jersey VCCA member. Those of you who have been to Hershey may or may not have met John. John was usually out searching for vintage car models and related paraphernalia. John Mahoney knew John for many years and they would bunk together for the long Hershey weekend. I met John 3 or 4 years ago and could see right away what a nice guy he was. Besides being a supreme model builder, he volunteered in many ways to help others and his community. Sometimes it takes a person dying to discover all the good they have done over the years. Not having Hershey this year almost seems like the event is grieving the loss of John, we will miss him. The car scene seems to be made up mostly of cruise event and no organized events sponsored by a car club or promoter. I am told there is a possible $10,000.00 fine for exceeding the limit of people at a given event. We have been going to a Sunday morning cruise in the parking lot of Miller’s Ale House in Commack. This was a nice event with around 50-70 cars getting there sometime after 8 am. Recently the entire “beach crowd” were kicked out of Robert Moses and decided to come to Miller’s.

NO. 371 FEBRUARY 2013 Contents Virgin on the Ridiculous! Events...................................2 his month I was genuinely struggling with what I could write Diary Dates..........................5 Tabout, perhaps the snow or perhaps something slot car related? Messages From Margate......7 However opportunity presented itself in recent events concerning my Carrera Corner..................11 email, internet access and my provider, Virgin Media. Of course of Ninco News........................13 all the worst weekends this could fail it would have to be at the end Fly On The Wall...............17 of the month when I am preparing the Journal! Ostorero Review................19 It all started on the Friday when we noticed our emails were Ninco Track Test...............26 sporadic to say the least, sometimes they would send and receive, NSCC Quiz Results...........30 other times they would only send or receive and often would do Heart of England Series....32 neither. It got worse over the weekend until Sunday when it stopped NSR P68 Kit......................34 working altogether. In addition we appeared to struggle with internet Members Adverts...............38 access and very slow speeds as well as losing all wireless connection Ebay Watch........................39 capability on our phones. So I thought I had best ring the technical people at Virgin Media for advice, help and assistance. I first rang them on Sunday afternoon, they accessed my computers, played with the settings, checked the external service connections, servers and so on all to no avail, after some two and half hours they suggested that the problem appeared to be at my end and suggested that by some pure coincidence two computers and two phones had magically changed settings and it was thus my fault? I then consulted with our own IT man at work and Martin Kay who both advised that the problems were not likely to be at “my end”, but sounded like a Virgin Media Server issue.

Supplement to Sports Car Market SportsKeith Martin’s Car Market™ Collecting, Investing, Values, and Trends 2018 Insider’s Guide to the ARIZON■ ScottsdaleA ■ Phoenix AUCTIONS ■ Fort McDowell Featured Cars « Where to Go « What to See 12 th Annual Guide — Complete Schedule of Events ARIZONA ■ INTRODUCTION Sunscreen, Sweaters and Bidders’ Credentials he first thing I do when I arrive at Sky Harbor Air- port in Phoenix is shed my Portland-winter sweat- ers and jackets. The dry, warm air of the desert has a curative Tquality; somehow everything seems better and brighter in the sun. Compared to the hectic madness of Monterey, Auc- tion Week in Arizona is tightly focused around one thing: selling cars. In the 30 years I’ve been coming to Arizona in Janu- ary, I’ve watched the auction scene there grow from un- der $20m to last year’s $261m. In the beginning there was just Barrett-Jackson and Kruse International; now it’s Barrett-Jackson, Russo and Steele, RM Sotheby’s, Gooding & Company, Bonhams, Worldwide Auctioneers and Silver Auctions Arizona. Where cool nights meet hot cars I suspect we will see a slight uptick in the overall sales total, to $270m (up 4%). While I wouldn’t call the market buoyant, at the same time it has not seen any precipitous declines. Rather, there’s been a “rationalization” of prices. And there are some bright spots. While air-cooled 911s have been harder to sell, the market for E-types continues to move rapidly upwards. Join us at our SCM seminar at Gooding on Thursday, January 18, from 9:30 a.m.
