IPWEAIPWEA NZNZ CONFERENCECONFERENCE 20182017 ROTORUADUNEDIN Stormwater Treatment Effects • Western Wetland and three ponds are already at risk of inundation. • Two remaining ponds will be inundated at 0.5 m sea level rise. • Reduced treatment performance as flows bypass treatment device. • Western Wetland will be particularly affected by increased salinity which will affect wetland vegetation with poor salt tolerance.

IPWEAIPWEA NZNZ CONFERENCECONFERENCE 20182017 ROTORUADUNEDIN Recommendations: • Confirm overland flow paths in the field to model flood levels more accurately. • Assess the effect of flood levels during sea level rise scenarios on the International and Domestic Terminal floor levels. • Implement risk management plans for flooding in key areas such as the drop-off zone at the international terminal. • Monitor water levels and saltwater intrusion at stormwater treatment devices. • Consider climate change (including wind effects) and sea level rise effects in the design of future stormwater systems. • Update 2D Flood Model to include climate change and sea level rise scenarios.
