DESIGN COMPETITION Panel of Judges www.kingcounty.gov/recreation/parks/partners/littlefootprint Dow Constantine, King County Executive King County Executive Dow Constantine was sworn in as King County Executive on November 24, 2009. He served as a King County Council member for eight years, and has held elected office in Washington State for 13 years. Dow is working to instill a culture of performance that changes the way King County does business. His goal is to form partnerships with residents, cities, employees, and other county leaders to craft real, sustainable reforms. Dow has a strong passion for the environment and his love of the outdoors started as an early age as a Boy Scout. Stone Gossard, Sustainability advocate and Pearl Jam rhythm guitarist Stone Carpenter Gossard (born July 20, 1966 in Seattle, Washington) is an American musician who serves as the rhythm guitarist for the American rock band Pearl Jam. Along with Jeff Ament, Mike McCready, and Eddie Vedder, he is one of the founding members of Pearl Jam. Gossard is also known for his work prior to Pearl Jam with the 1980s Seattle, Washington‐based grunge rock bands Green River and Mother Love Bone, and he has made contributions to the music industry as a producer and owner of a record label and a recording studio. Gossard has also been a member of the side project band Brad. In 2001, Gossard released his first solo album, Bayleaf. Kevin Brown, Division Director, King County Parks Kevin Brown is Division Director of the Parks and Recreation Division of the King County Department of Natural Resources and Parks, which stewards 200 parks, 175 miles of trails, and 26,000 acres of open space. He has served as Director since 2005, successfully navigating the division through the challenging economic climate. Prior to his tenure as director, Kevin spent ten years with the Division managing capital planning and land management functions, such as developing the annual capital budget and managing and developing lease, contract and concession agreements. Chris Toher, Executive Vice President and General Manager, Skanska Chris Toher is general manager of Skanska USA Building in Seattle. Over the past 25 years, he has had a hand in some of the region's landmark projects, including the recent Bertschi School science wing, which is slated to the state's first Living Building. 1 Art Wolfe, Wildlife and Landscape Photographer The son of commercial artists, Art Wolfe was born on September 13, 1951 in Seattle and still calls the city home. Over the course of his 30‐ year career, photographer Wolfe has worked on every continent and in hundreds of locations. His stunning images interpret and record the world's fast‐disappearing wildlife, landscapes and native cultures, and are a lasting inspiration to those who seek to preserve them all. Wolfe’s photographs are recognized throughout the world for their mastery of color, composition and perspective. Wolfe's photographic mission is multi‐faceted: art, wildlife advocacy, journalism inform his work. Wolfe has released over sixty books, including the award‐ winning Vanishing Act and Edge of the Earth Corner of the Sky. Eric Corey Freed, LEED AP, Hon. FIGP, Principal of organicARCHITECT Eric Corey Freed is Principal of organicARCHITECT architecture and consulting firm in California, with nearly 20 years of experience in green building. Eric co‐developed the Sustainable Design programs at the Academy of Art University and University of California Berkeley Extension. Eric is the author of four books, including "Green Building & Remodeling for Dummies", a best seller with over 100,000 copies in print. His latest books, "Sustainable School Architecture" and “Green$ense for your Home” were just released in 2010. Eric is considered a leader in the field; named by San Francisco Magazine "Best Green Architect"in 2005 and "Best Visionary" in 2007; and "Green Visionary" by 7x7 Magazine in 2008. Bill Schwartz, Manager, Special Projects ‐ Capital Improvement Program, King County Parks Bill Schwartz has worked in both residential and commercial architecture and construction industries for the past 40 years, including for companies such as Lindal Cedar Homes, Lozier Homes, and Peter A. Lendrum Associates. He has worked for King County for 21 years, first as a building inspector for the Department of Development and Environmental Services, and currently, with King County Parks, where he manages the implementation of special capital improvement projects, such as renovation of park offices and maintenanceshops, picnic shelters, signage, fencing, and other special projects. 2 Aaron Adelstein, Built Green Executive Director Aaron Adelstein is the executive director of the Built Green program of King and Snohomish Counties, one of the most successful green building certification programs in the U.S. with more than 500 member companies and 15,000 projects certified. Aaron has ten years of experience in green building and holds an M.S. in environmental policy from the University of Montana. In 2008, Aaron was named one of Puget Sound Business Journal’s “40 under 40” young outstanding executives. Andy Wappler Vice President of Corporate Affairs, Puget Sound Energy Andy Wappler is vice president, Corporate Affairs for Puget Sound Energy. As head of Corporate Affairs, Wappler is responsible for PSE's ongoing efforts to enhance relationships with communities, government agencies and major customers, as well as the company's communications. Since joining PSE in 2008, Wappler has led communications and engaged community and customer dialogue on a variety of company initiatives, including energy efficiency, renewable energy development and energy policy. A frequent speaker and master of ceremonies for local community events and charitable organizations, Wappler has been connecting with communities throughout Washington state for more than two decades. Kim Munizza, Principal, Mithun Kim Munizza is a leader in Mithun’s nationally recognized interior design practice with over 25 years of experience designing spaces for wineries, resorts, hotels, retail, restaurants and offices. Her ability to integrate a personal connection with people and place reveals unexpected solutions with magical and purposeful results. 3 .
