2021 CAROLINA HURRICANES DRAFT GUIDE Round 1: Friday, July 23 – 8 P.M. ET (ESPN2) Hurricanes pick: 27th overall Rounds 2-7: Saturday, July 24 – 11 A.M. The first round of the NHL Draft begins on Friday, July 23 and will be televised on ESPN2 at 8 p.m. ET. Rounds 2-7 will take place on Saturday, July 24 at 11 a.m. ET and will be televised on NHL Network. The Hurricanes made eight selections in the 2020 NHL Draft, including 13th-overall pick Seth Jarvis. HURRICANES DRAFT NOTES HURRICANES ALL-TIME FIRST-ROUND History of the 27th Pick – Carolina’s first selection in the 2021 NHL Draft will be 27th SELECTIONS overall in the first round. He also joined Staal as the second player since relocation to tally at least a point per game in multiple seasons (30-53—83 in 2018-19). Aho ranked first on the team in shorthanded goals (3) and tied for first in power-play goals (7), becoming one of five NHL players to lead their team in both categories in 2020-21 and one of three players to score at least three goals while shorthanded and on the power play. He also recorded a team-high 11 points (6g, 5a) during the playoffs, including the series-clinching overtime goal in Game 6 of the First Round at Nashville on May 27. Sveching Fire – Andrei Svechnikov (2nd overall, 2018) ranked fifth on the team in goals (15) and third in assists (27) and points (42) during the regular season. His 140 career points (59g, 81a) lead the 2018 NHL Draft class, and he ranks second on the team in goals since joining the Hurricanes in 2018-19. Svechnikov also recorded eight points (2g, 6a) during the playoffs, including a team-high six assists and a team-long, four-game point streak from May 30 to June 5 (1-4—5). Naughty by Necas – Martin Necas (12th overall, 2017) tallied 41 points (14g, 27a) in 2020-21, becoming just the fifth different Czech- born player in franchise history to post 40 points in a single season. He scored the first two shorthanded goals and the first two overtime goals of his NHL/Hurricanes career, ranking tied for eighth and tied for fourth in the NHL in those respective categories. He also scored his first career shootout game-deciding goal at Florida on Feb. 27 before being named the NHL’s Third Star of the Week on March 8 and Second Star of the Week on March 29. Necas registered five points (2g, 3a) in 11 playoff games, including his first career postseason multi-goal game vs. Nashville in Game 5 of the First Round on May 25. Carolina Hurricanes 2021 NHL Draft Guide Behavin’ Slavin – Jaccob Slavin (120th overall, 2012) was named the winner of the 2020-21 Lady Byng Memorial Trophy, given to the player who best combines sportsmanship and gentlemanly play with high-level playing ability.
