As the November issue arrives, many of us are completing our Airstream camping season. Rigs in Canada and the northern portion of the U.S. are getting ready for winter storage. We look back on a busy season of travel, rallies, and caravans with fond memories. We hope each of you had a memorable camping season with Airstream friends.

However, many people living in the north travel south (called “snow birds”) to places like Florida, Texas, Arizona, New Mexico, and California and spend the winter in their Airstreams. I want to remind you to take a look at the Airstream calendar in the Blue Beret for the many rallies and events that are provided by our southern clubs/units. They occur all winter long.

In January, we will conduct our Mid-Winter IBT in Robertsdale, AL on January 21-25, 2019. Robertsdale is close to the Gulf Coast; therefore there is a lot to see and do in the area. The deadline for registration is December 15, 2018.

One last thing to consider – “Have I paid my dues for 2019?” If you have already renewed your membership, thank you. If not, the preferable way to pay is via the WBCCI website: www.wbcci.org. Click on the “Renew Online Today” button. This link will go directly to the renewal form. You will want to register/renew soon to make sure your name appears in the January 2019 WBCCI Membership Directory.

As this year comes to an end, Karen and I wish each of you to have a wonderful holiday season. We hope you all have time to enjoy the many blessings we have with families and friends.

Barry & Karen Bell

Things are cooling off now and we hear less of members travelling around Europe. Children are back at school but there are still weekend trips being taken to enjoy the autumn (fall) landscapes.

The rally in the north of England organized by one of the new dealerships was well attended by members and the connections between the English dealers and WBCCI Europe looks set to develop further.

Work is ongoing to set dates for the 2019 rallies and it is hoped we will see more next year, see them happening in more countries and create more arrangements to help US/Canadian members attend. We have yet to see rallies in the Netherlands, Norway, Belgium and Italy to name a few possibilities. Rallies don’t happen by magic or even activity by board members. Each has its organiser so we are inviting more members to look at the possibilities in their country. And, of course, as I write this, there is still time to meet up in 2018.

Member numbers continue to increase. Next year will be bigger than ever starting with our base of over 100 Airstreams.

46 BLUE BERET / NOVEMBER 2018 AIRSTREAM From the Vice President of Sales Greetings from your extended family here in Jackson Center, OH! I hope everyone is ready for the holiday season to begin with family and friends.

We have been very busy again this month here in Ohio. The new production facility is definitely underway with a lot of dirt being moved. Although a lot of work has been done the last 60 days, we have run into a few delays due to some soil issues and dealing with more rain than we normally see in the fall. I hope to get some good pictures over the next few weeks to share with all of you of the progress. Even with the delays, there is still a lot of excitement building around the new facility.

We recently launched a new 25FB Globetrotter into the marketplace. After the release of the 27-foot Globetrotter Travel Trailer last year, one of the most common requests has been a smaller floor plan that Lenny Razo maintains the Globetrotter’s contemporary aesthetic.

With the same modern touches and European-inspired interiors, the new 25-foot Globetrotter answers that call. The Globetrotter’s crisp modern lines, luxurious finishes, and a light-filled interior are still there - just in a smaller package.

Finally, we are excited to report record sales for the Pomona Show this past October. Our exclusive dealer did a great job on displaying and representing our Airstream brand at the show.

Each year around the holidays, I am reminded of the many blessings I have in both my personal and business life. The one thing I am so thankful for are great customers like each of you. The passion you each share for our brand and company is amazing and much appreciated. On behalf of 1000 hard working families here in Jackson Center, Ohio, I would like to thank you from the bottom of our collective hearts for your business. It means the absolute world to all of us and our families!

Happy Airstreaming -

Once you have the screws removed, the valve will come apart into two sections. You will need to remove all gaskets and clean thoroughly. Usually Typical Tank and Dump Valve Assembly Layout warm soapy water will work fine for cleaning.

Once it is clean you can install the new gaskets from your repair kit and Step 2 reinstall the screws to put the valves back together. Now that you have the plumbing assembly out from the trailer and on Step 3 the bench, you will need to remove the screws that hold the valves together. Airstream has used two different styles of valves through the Now you can reinstall the dump assembly back in to the tanks and tighten years,Thetford and Valterra. The easiest way to tell which style you the hose clamps to keep them in place. When I reinstall the assembly have is by color. The Thetford valves are white and the Valterra is black. I apply Adseal sealant (Part Number 365330-01) to the fitting before Thetford was the valve used on all Classic models while Valterra was used pressing it into the tank. Similar to the picture below. This will allow it to on Safari, Sport, and Flying Cloud. A few years ago Airstream switched slide in to the tank area and keep liquids sealed in. completely to the Valterra brand. The Thetford repair kit works for both grey and black valves while Valterra makes a separate kit for each style of valve. Once you have determined which style of valve you have, make sure your gasket repair kit matches the brand. Below are pictures of the two styles of valves, screw removal points, and the repair kit for them.

Now it is time to make a patch to cover the access hole we cut in the tank pan at the beginning. I use sheet aluminum and make the patch one inch larger all the way around so I have plenty of room to fasten it in place. Pictured below. Use 3/8 inch sheet metal screws to fasten the patch to the tank pan. 1965 Globetrotter belonging to Bette Crelly, #1735, and 1965 Safara belong to Shirley Bollinger & John Lopez, #3547, in the Santa Cruz Redwoods - submitted by Shirley Bollinger, #3547
