Tight end Albert Okwuegbunam selected by Denver Broncos in fourth round of NFL draft By Ryan O’Halloran The Denver Post April 25, 2020 The Broncos started their Day 3 NFL draft activity by selecting Missouri tight end Albert Okwuegbunam with their fourth-round pick (No. 118 overall). A college teammate of quarterback Drew Lock, Okwuegbunam declared for the draft after his fourth-year junior season. Listed at 6-foot-5 1/ 2 and 258 pounds, Okwuegbunam ran the 40-yard dash in 4.49 seconds at the combine. In 33 games (24 starts), Okwuegbunam had 98 catches for 1,187 yards, but a whopping 23 touchdowns. In two years playing with Lock, Okwuegbunam had 17 touchdowns among his 72 catches. Okwuegbunam at combine talking about Lock. “He had, he made it pretty easy on me just being able to throw me strikes no matter what the route was, and really put a lot of trust in me. Our off the field chemistry was really good as well. He was a great teammate. I think that helped.” The Broncos’ tight end room is crowded. The top three are Noah Fant, Nick Vannett and Jeff Heuerman. Okwuegbunam fits in with Troy Fumagalli and Jake Butt. NFL Draft Preview 2017 tthhhereere is only one IIInn TThhiiiss IIIssssuuee::: PPaatthh ttoo tthhee DDrraafftt AAnnaallyyzziiinngg MMyylleess GGaarrrreetttt LLaattee RRoouunndd SSlleeeeppeerrss 110000++ PPllaayyeerr RRaattiiinnggss Path to the Draft: 2017 is as unpredictable as ever We called last year’s draft “solid” so we’ll call this year…unique, perhaps. As much as the pundits and teams want a solid QB class, it just isn’t there. Edge rushers of all size and scheme continue to dominate the landscape, forcing the NFL into more hybrid defenses that best utilize their talents. Despite continuous claims by experts that the era of the running back is dead there may be more backs drafted in the first round than quarterbacks. This year’s class is very reminiscent of the 2013 draft, which we dubbed “The Championship Builder.” It’s not as strong a class overall, but similar in that there’s a lot of depth where teams can build a solid core of their roster in rounds 2-5. There should be lots of movement at the top of the draft as teams jostle for the few potential superstars in this class. There’s more unknowns heading into the draft than in recent memory, which should make for tons of intrigue on draft weekend! QB: Mitch Trubisky seems to have separated himself from the rest of the pack despite only one year as a starter at North Carolina, not exactly a football powerhouse. Teams are likely attracted to his athleticism, accuracy and a 24-0 TD-INT ratio in the red zone. Notre Dame’s DeShone Kizer is a noted diva and had a down 2016 season.
