James Scott Gaynor DVM, DACVAA

Dr. Gaynor completed his undergraduate degree from The College in 1983 and received his veterinary degree (DVM) from The Ohio State University in 1988. He was in private small practice in northeastern Ohio for 1 year prior to returning to The Ohio State University for a 3-year residency in . He is currently board certified in veterinary anesthesiology and a Certified Veterinary Pain Practitioner. He is also certified in veterinary acupuncture and is a Diplomate of the Academy of Integrative Pain Management. Dr. Gaynor joined the faculty at Colorado State University in 1992 and was Section chief and associate professor of anesthesiology and pain management when he left the University in 2004. He is a past member of the Leadership Council for the Companion Animal Pain Management Consortium and a past Board member of the International Veterinary Academy of Pain Management. Aside from anesthesia and pain management, Dr. Gaynor has a passion for disaster response. He is an active member of the National Veterinary Response Team. Dr. Gaynor is an avid skier and spends much of his weekend time as an EMT, providing medical care as part of the Copper Mountain Ski Patrol. Dr. Gaynor enjoys spending time with his family and 4 . Dr. John Ciribassi is a native of Jersey City, NJ. He attended Southern Illinois University and received his undergraduate degree and of degree from the University of Illinois in 1984. He practiced medicine in upstate Pennsylvania. He founded, and is retired from, the Carol Stream Animal Hospital in Carol Stream, IL and Chicagoland Veterinary Behavior Consultants. CHRISTINA M. BOVÉ DVM,MS DACVIM ()

Dr. Christina Bové received her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University. She then completed a rotating small animal internship at LeadER Animal Specialty Hospital in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Following her internship, Dr. Bové worked as an Emergency Clinician in Houston, Texas as well as completed an internship at the Mississauga Oakville Veterinary Emergency Hospital in before working in preclinical heart failure research at the Texas Heart Institute in Houston, Texas. Dr. Bové then completed a combined cardiology residency and Master’s program at the College of Veterinary Medicine at Colorado State University. Dr. Bové is a Board-Certified Diplomate in the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (Cardiology). Dr. Bové has a passion for assisting clients and their with heart disease. She values her cooperative relationship with family and how together we provide optimal care for our beloved furry family members. She has a particular interest in congenital heart disease, advanced congestive heart failure and complex arrhythmias. Dr. Bové lives in Colorado with her husband (Brian), (Izzy) and (Darcy). Justin Thomason DVM, Diplomate ACVIM (Cardiology)

Dr. Thomason received a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Oklahoma State University. He completed a small animal medicine and internship at the University of Missouri and a residency in small animal internal medicine at the University of Georgia. Dr. Thomason was board certified by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine in small animal Internal Medicine in 2006. After his postgraduate training, he served as a clinical instructor at the University of Georgia's College of Veterinary Medicine for one year and then an assistant professor in the Department of Clinical Sciences at Oklahoma State University for three years. He was selected by the fourth-year veterinary as Instructor of the Year in both 2008 and 2009. Dr. Thomason completed residency training in cardiology at the University of Georgia.

Dr. Thomason enjoys spending free time with his wonderful wife, Sasha, and son, Will. He also enjoys jogging and studying, as well as watching college football and the occasional episode of Duck Dynasty.

Chris Reeder DVM, Diplomate ACVD

Dr. Chris Reeder is a 2003 graduate of Auburn University's College of Veterinary Medicine, summa cum laude. While attending Auburn University, Dr. Reeder received numerous awards including the distinguished Veterinary award, Veterinary Neurology award and Merck-Merial fellowship in genetic research. Dr. Reeder practiced small animal medicine/surgery in Louisville, Kentucky for 3 years. During this time, Dr. Reeder was able to further develop his interest in dermatology.

Dr. Reeder completed a residency in veterinary dermatology in 2008 at Animal Dermatology Clinic in Tustin, CA and became board-certified. He worked as the senior dermatologist with ADC in Louisville, KY until August 2016, and now heads up the dermatology department for Blue Pearl Veterinary Partners in Franklin, TN. He has served American College of Veterinary Dermatology on their credentials committee and ad hoc committees and previously served as a representative on the executive board of the Kentucky Veterinary Medical Association.

Dr. Millie Rosales graduated with a bachelor’s degree in and high honors from Florida International University. She received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of Florida, College of Veterinary Medicine in 2000. Following graduation, she worked as a general practitioner in Miami for a non-profit small animal clinic. In 2003, Dr. Rosales returned to the University of Florida and completed a two-year residency in the specialization of veterinary dermatology. She achieved board certification in veterinary dermatology from the American College of Veterinary Dermatology. She has authored several articles and lectured at local and state veterinary associations. Dr. Rosales holds a primary interest in allergic and immune mediated skin conditions in dogs and ; and chronic (recurrent) ear infections in dogs.

Andrew Simpson DVM, MS, Diplomate ACVD

Dr. Andrew Simpson is a 2009 graduate from the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine. After completing an internship in small animal medicine and surgery at VCA Aurora Animal Hospital and VCA Berwyn Animal Hospital, he spent four years working as a general practitioner at various VCA animal hospitals in the greater Chicagoland area. Dr. Simpson finished his residency in veterinary dermatology along with a master's degree at the Colorado State University College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences in June of 2017. He has published multiple papers in veterinary literature, including his more recent research on monitoring urinary tract infections with allergy therapy, novel treatment for pemphigus foliaceus, along with a study on absent eardrums in dogs. Dr. Wagner holds joint positions at the University of Pittsburgh as a clinical associate professor of Veterinary Medicine in the Division of Laboratory Animal Resources and as a research associate professor of Medicine in the School of Medicine, Department of Medicine. Dr. Wagner is board certified in exotic companion medicine by the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners (ABVP – ECM). He practices exotic animal medicine part-time at North Boros Veterinary Hospital. Lawren Durocher-Babek DVM, MS, Diplomate ACVIM

Dr. Lawren Durocher-Babek is board certified in small animal internal medicine by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine. She received her undergraduate and veterinary school degrees from the University of Georgia. She then did an internship at Ontario Veterinary College in Guelph, Ontario. She completed a three-year small animal internal medicine residency and master’s degree at The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. Her research into ketosis in diabetic dogs earned her the ACVIM National Residency Research Award. After becoming board certified in 2007, she has worked in private referral hospitals in North Carolina and New Jersey. She currently practices in Hong Kong. Her areas of special interest include hospice and palliative care, chronic kidney disease, gastrointestinal disorders, and endocrinopathies.

Sharon Clare PhD, DVM, DACVIM

Dr. Clare received a PhD in biochemistry at the University of South Carolina and then graduated with a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine in 2005 from North Carolina State University. She completed a rotating Small Animal Medicine and Surgery internship at The Ohio State University prior to working for the Small Animal Emergency Service at the Veterinary at NCSU. After three years as an emergency clinician, she moved to Madison, WI where she completed a three-year residency in Small Animal Internal Medicine at the University of Wisconsin. After her residency, she worked at UW as a clinical Internal Medicine faculty member prior to making the transition from academia to private practice. Dr Clare currently practices full time in Charleston, South Carolina. Dr. Clare has a special interest in the emergency aspects of internal medicine diseases, and she enjoys the challenge of diagnosis and management of liver and chronic gastrointestinal diseases. When she is not at the hospital, Dr. Clare is an avid reader of fiction for pleasure, and she enjoys cooking, gardening, and spending time with her husband and two Labrador retrievers, Olive and Mae Bee.

Dr. Susan Kilborn received her DVM degree in 1986 from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Saskatchewan. After 4 years of emergency and critical care practice in Winnipeg, she completed a post-graduate degree (DVSc program in Clinical Studies)at the Ontario Veterinary College(University of Guelph). Barry Kipperman DVM, DACVIM, MSc, DACAW

Dr. Barry Kipperman is from Long Island, NY. He is board certified in internal medicine and is staff internist and founder of a 24-hour referral/emergency practice in the San Francisco Bay area.

Dr. Kipperman received a master’s degree in animal welfare, ethics and law from the , and is a board-certified specialist in animal welfare. He teaches at the University of California at Davis School of Veterinary Medicine, and animal welfare and ethics for the University of Missouri.

Dr. Renier is a Minnesota native who grew up riding on the Midwest hunter/jumper circuit. After attending Williams College where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Biology and in Psychology, Dr. Renier received her degree as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 2008 from the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University in Massachusetts. She then completed an internship at the Peterson-Smith Equine Hospital in Ocala, Florida, gaining experience in hospitalized surgical and internal medicine cases.

Dr. Renier was next accepted for a residency position in Large Animal Internal Medicine, Equine Emphasis, at the University of California, Davis. She received her Diplomate status from the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine, Large Animal in 2012, permitting her to practice as a specialist in equine internal medicine.

Ben Stoughton DVM, Diplomate ACVIM (LA), PhD

Dr. Ben Stoughton is from Merritt Island, Florida and is currently an assistant professor in Large Animal Internal Medicine at the Atlantic Veterinary College (AVC). Prior to moving to Prince Edward Island (PEI) in December 2017, he was a lecturer in Veterinary at Texas A&M University. He completed his undergraduate and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degrees at the University of Florida, followed by a rotating equine internship at the Equine Medical Center of Ocala. After his internship, he completed a large animal internal medicine (LAIM) residency at Texas A&M University and became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Medicine (ACVIM) in LAIM in 2013. Upon finishing his residency, he entered the Merit Scholars Fellowship Program at Texas A&M University for completion of a Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences studying the pathogenesis of Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. His adventure to PEI included moving with his wife, three kids, three dogs, two horses and a cat.

His current professional interests include , communication, large animal internal medicine, ultrasonography, neuromuscular disorders, and equine parasitology.

Simon R. Platt BVMS, Diplomate ACVIM (Neurology), Diplomate ECVN, FRCVS, RCVS

Dr. Simon Platt received his veterinary degree from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland, in 1992, following which he undertook an internship in small animal medicine and surgery at the Ontario Veterinary College, University of Guelph and a 2-year period in private practice in the England. Dr. Platt completed a residency in neurology and neurosurgery in 1998 at the University of Florida, and afterwards spent 2 years as an assistant professor of Neurology at the University of Georgia. In 2000, Dr. Platt returned to the UK where he was Head of the Neurology/Neurosurgery service at the Animal Health Trust until 2006, from which time he has been at the Department of Small Animal Medicine and Surgery at the University of Georgia where is currently a Professor. Dr. Platt was made a fellow of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons in 2018. Dr. Platt has authored or co-authored over 200 journal articles and 50 book chapters and is the co-editor of the BSAVA Manual of Canine and Feline Neurology and the Manual of Small Animal Neurological Emergencies. Dr. Platt is past- President of the ACVIM Neurology Specialty and Founder member of the South Eastern Veterinary Neurology (SEVEN) group in the USA. Currently, Simon serves as Editor in Chief of the NAVC journal Today’s Veterinary Practice.

Meighan Daly Dehart DVM, Diplomate ACVIM (Oncology)

Dr. Meighan Daly DeHart graduated with honors from the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine, continued after graduation to an internship at Florida Veterinary Specialists, and then completed a medical oncology residency at Texas A&M University. She completed her board certification with the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine. She has many publications (Veterinary Comparative Oncology, Journal of Feline Medicine and Surgery, Journal of Veterinary Internal Medicine, and the Journal of Veterinary Diagnostic Investigation) and has participated in many research studies/clinical trials. Dr. Amanda Elpiner graduated with honors from The Ohio State University in 2001 with a in Molecular Genetics. In 2005, she earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine with honors at The Ohio State College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Elpiner completed a small animal medical and surgical internship at Red Bank Veterinary Hospital in New Jersey and a residency in medical oncology at the Veterinary Center in Connecticut (formerly known as the and Hematology Center). Jaclyn Smith Renner DVM, Diplomate ACVIM (Oncology)

Dr. Jaclyn Renner grew up in Ohio, earning a bachelor’s degree in Medial Dietetics at The Ohio State University. She continued her education there, obtaining her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree. During her undergraduate and veterinary training, she worked as an ICU, Internal Medicine and Oncology technician, where she developed a strong interest in medical oncology. She completed a one-year rotating internship in medicine and surgery at Animal Emergency and Referral Center in Northbrook, Illinois, followed by a one-year focused Oncology specialty internship at Georgia Veterinary Specialists in Atlanta, Georgia. Dr. Renner then completed a three-year medical oncology residency at the Veterinary Cancer Center in Norwalk, Connecticut, and was Board Certified by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (Oncology) in 2014.

Annette Smith DVM, MS, Diplomate ACVIM (Oncology)

Dr. Smith completed her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree with honors at Texas A&M in May 1994.

After her internship at the University of Illinois, she joined Auburn University’s residency program in 1995. She was certified in both small animal internal medicine and oncology in May 2000 by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine. While pursuing her residency training, she completed a master’s degree in Biomedical Sciences in 2001.

She served on the Auburn University faculty from 1999 to 2019, retiring as the Robert & Charlotte Lowder Distinguished Professor in Oncology. She taught over 3000 students at various campuses about oncology and trained 15 residents. She was active in research and publication, with over 50 peer-reviewed articles and 11 book chapters.

Her practice approach is to find the optimal treatment plan for each family to manage their pet's cancer, with the primary focus being the best possible quality of life.

Emily Conway BVMS, MS, MRCVS, Diplomate ACVO

Dr. Emily Conway was raised in Glenwood Springs, Colorado. She graduated from Willamette University in Salem, Oregon with a bachelor’s degree in Biology in 2005. She then earned her veterinary degree with honors from the (Scotland) in 2010. After graduating from veterinary school, Dr. Conway completed a rotating internship in small animal medicine and surgery at VCA Veterinary Care Animal Hospital in Albuquerque, New Mexico. After her internship, Dr. Conway spent a year in general practice in New Mexico before moving east to pursue a three-year residency in comparative at Purdue University. She completed both her residency and master’s degree in 2015. Dr. Conway enjoys all aspects of ophthalmology, but has special interests in corneal disease, feline ocular disease and the ocular manifestations of systemic disease. In her free time, Dr. Conway enjoys baking, traveling, reading and spending time with her husband, their cat (Colby) and their Shiba Inu (Bento).

SURGERY – LARGE ANIMAL/SMALL ANIMAL Jessica Dahlberg DVM, MS, CCRT, Diplomate ACVS

Dr. Dahlberg earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree and concurrent master’s degree focused on biomechanics and osteoarthritis therapy in . She then completed a surgical internship and residency, achieved her board certification in large animal surgery, and practiced large animal surgery around the US before pursuing ACVS Dual-Certification in small animal surgery. She also has 4 years of experience in general small animal medicine.

She is DACVS board-eligible in small animal surgery and have been appointed the incoming Chair of the ACVS Dual-Certification Committee.

She is a general surgeon and her special interests include neurosurgery, minimally invasive surgery (arthroscopy, laparoscopy), surgical oncology, upper airway surgery, and sports medicine. She is also certified as a Canine Rehabilitation Therapist.
