RURAL MANAGEMENT & DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT GOVERNMENT OF SIKKIM GANGTOK, SIKKIM. No.04/RM&DD/P. Dated: - 23.06.2017 NOTIFICATION In exercise of the powers conferred by section 49of the Sikkim Panchayat Act, 1993 (6 of 1993) and in supersession of Notification No. 41/RM&DD/P dated 28.02.2012, the State Government is pleased to declare that:- 1. Each Zilla Panchayat shall be known by the unit number and name specified hereunder:- (a) the serial number and name of wards within such Gram Panchayat given in column No. 1, of Schedule ‘A’, ‘B’, ‘C’ & ‘D’; (b) the territorial jurisdiction of the Territorial Constituencies shall be as indicated in column No. 2, of Schedule ‘A’, ‘B’, ‘C’ & ‘D’; (c) each ward shall elect one member for the concerned Zilla Panchayat. 2.     CHAPTER~6 UPPER RANGIT BASIN : HUMAN ECOLOGY OF ECO-TOURISM 259 SECTION I INTRODUCTION AND CONCEPTUAL ASPECTS Mental attitudes differ from person to person, so do human wishes. Motivation for travel will also differ' from individual to individual. Nevertheless, an attempt can always be made to classify human motives for travel :- (a) Rest and Relaxation. When the humans work in a society oftension we want to get away from it, and seek physical and mental relaxation elsewhere, though temporarily. (b) Educational and Cultural. Humans wish to see the way of life of other people, to study the beautiful natural sights of other countries; to acquire better knowledge and background of people living there, to visit cultural, scientific, technical and- spiritual institutions of learning in other places, and to appreciate •. art, music, literature and cultural heritage of other societies. (c) · Social and Historical. Some are keen to visit historical sights in order to participate in history and better appreciate historical events, to gain new experiences by meeting new people, and to create personal esteem. (d) Health and Sports. Another group may like to visit health centres and mountain resorts, to enjoy salubrious weather, to take part in sports or to join mountaineering expeditions. (e) Recreational Activities. Activities such as swimming, trekking or hiking may be the pull factors for many. Depending on choice and economical factors, tourism is sub divided into three categories - domestic, regional and international. Both, in terms of volume and also in terms of receipts, domestic tourism far exceeds the other two types. Regional tourism is much higher than international tourism in the case of both the variables.(Mridula and Datt, 1991)(1).

    ` Annual Progress Report 2010-11 1 Horticulture & Cash Crops Development Department Government of Sikkim 1. Introduction Sikkim is a land blessed by nature with bountiful resources, manifested in rich biodiversity, perennial water sources, diverse soil profile, extremely varied climate and wide ranging topographical variations. Diverse agro-ecological situations ranging from sub-tropical in the lower valleys to alpine in very high elevations present an extremely congenial environment for horticulture diversifications. Our horticulture development programmes are based on the advantages arising out of our inherent strengths and disadvantages posed by geography and topography. Nonetheless, our efforts directed towards converting disadvantages into advantage have brought about path breaking transformations in horticulture sector. Promoting farm activities that are fully compatible with our ecology and ethos forms the basic core of our development strategy. As a result of various interventions, this sector has been able to achieve much in area expansion under different commercial crops. Increased productivity, high level of crop diversification and technological inputs are some of the manifestations of departmental interventions. Tangible area increase under flowers and vegetables has been achieved over the years especially cultivation of off-season vegetables. Protected cultivation, a notion quite remote a few years back now has evolved into one of the most effective inputs for flowers na vegetables. Fruit cultivation is a traditional practice in the State and the resurgence of orange cultivation has strengthened our confidence and given new hope to our farmers. Similar strategy is being followed with greater zeal for controlling large cardamom decline. Climate change as everywhere has posed new challenges with threats of new pests and diseases, change in cropping pattern and shift in cropping line.
