GRR History 1St 10 Years GOSPORT ROAD RUNNERS 1.7. 1983 to 1993. The First Ten Years. 1. When you have been around as long as Gosport Road Runners, twenty three years so far with I am sure many more to come. It is time somebody recorded their history. This is something I have been contemplating for a few years and now seems to be as good a time as any. I hope if any members past or present ever read this, it will bring back the sense and pleasure of achievement once attained and memories of fellow runners in some cases long forgotten also friendships cemented over the years by there passion for running. It will I hope record the contribution that runners have made to keep the club going over the years that this record covers and also the significant events that have gone to making it the respected club it has become in the running world. It has also helped to put Gosport on the map a good many people who I came across in my travels on holidays and as part of the Royal Naval Reserve who when they saw me out running in the Gosport vest thought I was from Northumberland or that we were a suburb of Portsmouth. Now (2007) we have been spotted in places as far apart as Australia, America, Canada, Malaya, The Falklands, North Africa, South Africa and probably in every county from Lands End to John O Groats. At the time of writing this we have members from Uganda, America and South Africa and others serving in Afghanistan, The Falklands and Iraq. The club previously Gosport Joggers was formed in 1983 by Hugh Pritchard who then ran it as President with volunteers from the membership covering the every day running of the club. As more and more runners joined the club it was decided to form a committee to share the ever increasing work load. 1986. Committee formed. Most of the information in this history is from then as prior to that there were few newsletters and information was sketchy to say the least. I am contacting past members to see if any still have documents, cuttings etc from this period but most of them didn’t keep them. Those whose help knowledge and advice have been invaluable will be listed if I ever reach the end, although if you look at the title there will hopefully never be an ending and Gosport Road Runners will still be around for a long time to come and who knows there may be a runner in the club who will want to record the ongoing years. I have used the date in the title as it is the date the clubs first constitution was drawn up, See next item. 2. GOSPORT RUNNERS CLUB. CONSTITUTION. 1. SEAFORD STRIDERS NEWSLETTER WE DON’T JUST RUN, WE ALSO HAVE FUN! Editor & Press Officer: Hilary Humphreys [email protected] Facebook: https://en-gb.facebook.com/pages/Seaford-Striders/184950041545372 Website: http://www.seafordstriders.org.uk/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/seafordstriders February 2017 SUSSEX GRAND PRIX by Gareth Hutchinson The Sussex Grand Prix (SGP) is an annual league which provides the running clubs of Sussex the opportunity to compete against each other on an individual and team basis. The categories are further divided by age and sex. The Striders were once regular winners of the overall competition and there now seems an appetite to challenge once again for the top spot. There are usually around 18 races that make up the Grand Prix. Points are awarded according to your finishing position, 1st place earns 500 points, 2nd place 499, and so on. The scoring is separate for males and females. Your points total is obtained from your best 8 scoring races. These 8 races must include at least 2 races of 10 miles or more. Runners' individual points allocation also form the team scores for the club; the top 10 men and 10 ladies (vets top 5 men, top 5 ladies) are counted. Full details can be found on the SGP website http://sussexgrandprix.co.uk/ The clubs that tend to do the best are those with strength and depth across the sexes and age groups. So, don’t worry if you are not up there with the fastest in the club, if you compete in at least 8 races you are still likely to make a significant contribution to the team.

Sports Fundraising Market Snapsh t 2018 Mass participation sports events provide an excellent opportunity for charities to recruit, engage and inspire people to fundraise for them. Whilst not all charities have their own mass participation events, the majority utilise third party events delivered by ‘commercial’ providers for fundraising activity. The Sports Fundraising Snapshot is our annual review of this market. Which are the biggest events for sports fundraising? Working with our charity partners and ‘justcharity.org’ we have updated our estimate of the UK’s 25 most important mass participation sporting events for fundraising. READING ROADRUNNERS NEWSLETTER OCT 2017 The newsletter remembers 1987 as the year a friend’s dad got INSIDE THIS MONTH: a CD player (things moved slowly in Yateley). The one thing that • MEDOC MARATHON we had heard about CDs was that you could scratch them, smear them with jam etc. and they would still reproduce perfect sound. • THAMES VALLEY XC You can probably guess the rest of the story. • CHARITY NEWS Anyway, luckily over in Reading a band of pioneering running • FRIDAY TRACK & 5K enthusiasts were spending their time more productively forming • O2O 10K what we now know and love as Reading Roadrunners. This month saw the official celebrations as the club marked the anniversary in traditional style (roasting a pig, making cakes and getting tiddly on Brakspears...) Your race reports have been coming in thick and fast, from desert marathons to 10Ks around shopping centres. Many thanks to all this month’s contributors - we look forward to lots more as we head into Cross Country season! READING ROADRUNNERS OCT 17 1 Chairman Chat CARL WOFFINGTON I mentioned last month that autumn was approaching. The above mentioned party incorporated our 30th I now have leaves on my lawn, so I guess it’s here. The Birthday book launch. I hadn’t seen the book before XC season is with us. By the time you read this we Saturday and bought a copy. It really is very good will have run our first TVXC race of the series. and a bargain at £3. It is very clear that an enormous amount of work was put into producing the book.

  • Read 334 Inspiring Stories
Inspiring stories from AudioFuel customers Since I've been an audiofuel customer, running has helped me deal with depression and post-traumatic stress disorder. Even when I feel low, tired and like I don't want to carry on, listening to audiofuel tracks helps to give me the motivation I need to get out and run. When I run, it helps improve my mood and this in turn helps me to live life to its fullest. ______________________ I lost 3 stone after running to audio fuel pyramid 200 and went on to complete a half marathon having only trained for 10 weeks ! My proudest moment was when I planned to go out for a 3 mile run, got lost and managed to run 5 miles! My first distance larger than 3 miles, and I kept at the same pace. I was so proud of myself! ______________________ Inspiration from Team AudioFuel Page 1 of 79 I'm 62 and have been exercising routinely for decades. However I amped it up with the interval training and not only did I peel off a few pounds, but my energy is great! I love intervals and so does my dog. (I also out ran my 37 year old son, and it inspired him to amp it up too!) ______________________ Having come back from 8 months of injury and operations, all my running has been done to audiofuel, without it I don't think I would be back running 4 times per week. The speed session is slower but I can see improvement, the long runs painfully slow.
