Publication Series of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna Eva Blimlinger, Andrea B. Braidt, Karin Riegler (Series Eds.) VOLUME 21 On the Publication Series We are pleased to present the latest volume in the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna’s publication series. The series, published in cooperation with our highly com- mitted partner Sternberg Press, is devoted to central themes of contemporary thought about art practices and theories. The volumes comprise contribu- tions on subjects that form the focus of discourse in art theory, cultural studies, art history, and research at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna and represent the quintessence of international study and discussion taking place in the respective fields. Each volume is published in the form of an anthology, edited by staff members of the academy. Authors of high international repute are invited to make contributions that deal with the respective areas of emphasis. Research activities such as international conferences, lecture series, institute- specific research focuses, or research projects serve as points of departure for the individual volumes. All books in the series undergo a single blind peer review. International re- viewers, whose identities are not disclosed to the editors of the volumes, give an in-depth analysis and evaluation for each essay. The editors then rework the texts, taking into consideration the suggestions and feedback of the reviewers who, in a second step, make further comments on the revised essays.

Prison Break [EXT. PRISON YARD-DAY] (Abruzzi hangs up the phone. Shot goes to Michael, who looks down at the grate with a soggy magazine in it. He turns to find “D.B Cooper” looking at him. D.B looks away but Michael goes over and sits down.) Michael: (Looks straight ahead) Your Charles S. Moreland right? Moreland: Do I know you? Michael: Knew your wife before she passed. Moreland: You knew Marla? Michael: (Looking at him.) You mean Ann? Moreland: How’d you know her? Michael: We taught in Boston together. Moreland: East Farmington. Michael: You mean West Wilmington. Moreland: (Smiles and looks at him.) No more tests, promise. Seems you know everything about me. Who are you? Michael: Michael Scofield. How’d you get it in here? Moreland: (Strokes the cat.) First of all, she’s not an it. She’s Marilyn. And she’s a grandfather, back in the days when prisoners were allowed a creature comfort or two. Michael: Heard you were D.B Cooper. Moreland: Every new fish comes in here and the first thing they hear is that Charles West Moreland is D.B. Cooper. I tell you like I tell them. You want the Cooper story, I can’t give it to you, cause I’m not him. Michael: That’s too bad. Sort of wished it was. Man’s a legend. Moreland: Nowhere near as much as I wish it were true my friend. I’d have one million in cash waiting for me on the outside. (Abruzzi walks up with his boys.) I’d put some grass between them if I were you.

  • Prison Break of Season One
US-China Foreign Language, February 2017, Vol. 15, No. 2, 116-120 doi:10.17265/1539-8080/2017.02.006 D DAVID PUBLISHING Application of Metaphor in Prison Break of Season One SONG Gui-xia Binzhou University, Binzhou, China In 2005, Prison Break of Season One witnessed the 18,000,000 audience rating in dull season in America for the unique artificial charm in America. One of the most important reasons of success lies in the frequent and sufficient use of metaphor which strengthens the artificial power tremendously. Metaphor is a very important technique of imagination, which reflects one concept to another concept and plays a very important role in the course of human’s perception for the world. In the drama, tattoo, escaping group, paper crane, etc., all reflect the author’s insight for the society, revolt, and protest, expressing his pursuit and yearning for freedom, love, and family. Keywords: Prison Break, love and freedom, metaphor Metaphor Theory Conception metaphor theory is a new branch of cognitive linguistics study. It originates from the 1980s and this school’s representatives are American productive linguist Claff and English philosopher Johnson. It states that humankind’s cognition always bases on its own experience, our concept system, and thinking course by the construction of metaphors. Metaphor is not just a way of thinking and cognition which characterizes human being’s thinking. As Claff (1980) dictates, metaphor is a very important technique of imagination, which reflects one concept to another concept and plays a very important role in the course of human’s cognition of the world.
