Serbian Church Hosts Gala Edict of Milan Celebration

Assembly of American Orthodox Bishops holds Fourth Annual Meeting The Assembly of Canonical Orthodox Bishops of North and Central America held its fourth annual meeting September 17-19, 2013 in Schaumburg, IL. Forty-three hierarchs representing 11 jurisdictions were in attendance. Representing the Serbian Orthodox Church at the meeting were His Grace Bishop Longin and His Grace Bishop Maxim. At the conclusion of the meeting the Assembly released three official statements to the faithful: on the Church’s unchanging view of marriage; expressing grave concern over escalating violence in the Middle East; and a message on the conclusion of the fourth Assembly. In the statement on marriage, the Assembly expressed its deep concern over recent actions concerning the status of marriage, in particular the legalization of same-sex unions. The full statement on marriage may be found elsewhere in this issue of the Path. In its statement on the escalating violence in the Middle East, the Assembly “expresses its grave concern over the escalation of political unrest and ongoing violence in countries throughout the Middle East, especially in Palestine, Egypt, Iraq and more recently in Syria.” The full statement on violence in the Middle East is reproduced elsewhere in this issue of the Path. This year’s priority discussions included the vision of the Assembly and interpretation of the Chambésy decision and canonical restructuring of the Church in America. If the cause of our melancholy is the false notion that life is filled with hopelessness then God sends us His only begotten Son for that very same reason — to be our hope. Christ really is as we say at the end of liturgy “our God and our hope.” Our faith should give us the answer to all of life’s heavier and deeper issues; more specifically, the community of faith — the church community. Yet, herein lies the problem: I’m not sure whether we’re interested in the answer. I’ve encountered many people over the years that, for whatever reasons, suffer depression. What’s interesting, though they sought my help, words of guidance and comfort and while our conversations seemed to be helpful, they never took into consideration that a more active role in the church community, in a living community of faith, would do them any good. Instead, they continue to wallow in a grief they believe is too big for anyone to solve but themselves. St. Paul’s message is simple: “Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death” (2 Cor. 7:10). Освећење цркве Св. Димитрија у Демојну, Ајова

Прво богослужење одржано је о. Александар Бугарин и о. Џејмс у Грчкој православној цркви Светог Данк из Линколна, Небраска, а за Ђорђа у Демојну, 31. марта 2002. певницом су били о.
