4 SUpporting Shorewood Public Schools SUpporting Shorewood Public Schools 5 Greetings to the Community from the Nehrings

We are so proud to be a part of such an historic and tradition rich community. Our two Shorewood businesses have a great history and have been a big part of the community’s family tradition for many years.

Nehring’s Sendik’s on Oakland has been a local marketplace cornerstone since the early 1900s. Many generations have depended on it for the best quality and great food selections on a daily basis, especially during the holiday seasons. A Letter From the Board President

Originally given to him by his father, Ignatius Balistreri and his sons Ted and Steve ran the Welcome and on behalf of the Seed Board of Directors, thank you for attending the store and sustained a long legacy of ‘jobs for the kids’ and family shopping. We have continued that great tradition since 1998 when we purchased the store from the Balistreri family. Shorewood SEED Foundation’s 8th Swing with Shorewood event! We are very excited about this evening and thank you all for supporting SEED throughout the years. The business at Thirst and Vine, our wine bar, shop and bistro at 4330 N. Oakland, has had great history of its own. Once known as one of the best bakeries in town, ‘The Shorewood The SEED Foundation began eight years ago as a grass roots eff ort to raise funds to Village Bakery’, operated by Bernie and his father, was another wonderful community icon. With the opening of Jean Pierre’s Bakery in 2000, we were able to continue that tradition as well. support our schools. With the help of our generous contributors and special events, It has changed names and themes a few times in the past ten years but, more importantly, it SEED has raised over $800,000. These funds raised have funded teacher grants in the continues to be a favorite social gathering place for many villagers and other friends. areas of technology, safety, and instructional experiences. Also, throughout the years We honor our duty to continue these two great mainstays in the village and we plan to be here we have made large contributions directly to the General Education Fund. Students, for many years to come. teachers, and administrators have expressed their gratitude for your generosity and their excitement about the positive impact SEED grants have had on the classroom Very sincerely, Anne and John Nehring experience.

All this could not have been accomplished without the dedication and hard work of many volunteers. I want to personally thank all those who give generously of their time and talent to help SEED grow. This includes all of the volunteers for tonight’s wonderful event, all who support our eff orts throughout the year, and the SEED Board of Directors, past and present. A special thank you to Anne Clough for Chairing Swing for the last two years!
