1624. "Tree's" Born in 1957, Cynthia Freeman Dabestani spent her early childhood afternoons drawing with her grandmother, who instilled her own desire to be an artist in Cindy. At the age of six, Cindy was taking private lessons with Scottish artist John Harden. While attending high school in Asheboro, North Carolina, Cindy focused on her art, winning several merit awards. She moved to Charlotte in 1976 to attend college. Later, marriage and two young sons put her art aspirations on hold, but when the boys finished high school, Cindy signed up at a local art school and soon discovered her creative soul through painting. Admittedly an emotional person, Cindy symbolically pours her observations, memories and feelings onto her canvas via layers of paint, building shimmering textures by applying color after color with a palette knife. The brilliant colors in the finished paintings bear witness to her outlook on life--and art. Her work is featured at Hacker Studio Gallery in the Southend area.
