Looking East: a Jackson Browne Tribute Band
Looking East: A Jackson Browne Tribute Band Looking East: A Jackson Browne Tribute Band is a Cincinnati-based band dedicated to playing the timeless music of Jackson Browne. Browne, an American singer-songwriter who rose to fame in the 1970s, blends great lyrics and stellar music, and that is why he is a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the Songwriters Hall of Fame, and winner of the Steinbeck Award, among others. As one of the first to sign with Geffen Records, he led the way for The Eagles, Joni Mitchell, Linda Ronstadt and the rest of the singer-songwriters and bands out of southern California. Looking East was formed in 2010 by drummer Peter Wimberg (a Browne enthusiast who has met the legendary musician on three separate occasions) and consists of seven talented musicians and vocalists: Larry Arszman (guitar), Ed O’Donnell (guitar), Paul Saas (bass), Chris Hazelwood (keys, lead vocals), Peter Wimberg (drums), Dani Daniels (vocals) and Cara Nicolas (vocals). The ultimate goal of Looking East is to perform the music as originally written with not only male lead vocals but also females in light of the many who have covered his songs from Linda Ronstadt to Bonnie Raitt to Emmylou Harris. Every detail of the music, from the intricate guitar riffs to the soulful backing vocals, is carefully replicated. The band spent a solid year rehearsing and perfecting each song before performing for the first time in public; now, they are eager to share Browne’s incredible music with the community. The selection of music played by Looking East spans Browne's entire career, from Saturate Before Using to Time the Conqueror, including all of the classics and some of the more obscure (but still rockin’) songs. -
Deana Carter Danny Myrick
Deana Carter DEANA CARTER, the daughter of famed studio guitarist and producer Fred Carter, Jr., grew up surrounded by musical greats, including Willie Nelson, Bob Dylan, Waylon Jennings, and Simon & Garfunkel. She developed her songwriting skills at writer’s nights throughout Nashville, but her real break came when one of her demo tapes fell into the hands of Willie Nelson, who remembered Deana as a child. Impressed with how she’d grown as a songwriter, Nelson asked Deana to perform along with John Mellencamp, Kris Kristofferson, and Neil Young, as the only female solo artist to appear at Farm Aid VII in 1994. Her 1996 debut album Did I Shave My Legs for This? quickly climbed to the top of both the country and pop charts, quickly achieving multi-platinum status. "Strawberry Wine,” the first single from the album, was awarded CMA's 1997 Single of the Year. Seven albums and a decade later, Deana is still writing and producing for both the pop/rock and country markets when not on the road touring. Her superstar success continues to be evident. Her chart topper “You & Tequila,” co-written with Matraca Berg and recorded by Kenny Chesney, was nominated in 2011 as CMA’s “Song of the Year” and received two Grammy nods. Carter also recently co-wrote and produced a new album for recording artist Audra Mae while putting the finishing touches on her own Southern Way of Life that hit the shelves last December. Danny Myrick DANNY MYRICK is an award winning songwriter and musician based here in Nashville. -

I Have Been a Longtime Fan of Singer-Songwriter Jackson Browne. I
Ezk 37.1-14; Ps 104:25-35,37; Acts 2:1-21; Jn 15:26-27; 16:4b-15 I have been a longtime fan of singer-songwriter Jackson Browne. I particularly love his song: “Running on Empty”: Looking out at the road, rushing under my wheels; Looking back at the years gone by, like, so many summer fields; I look around for the friends that I used to turn to, to pull me through; Looking into their eyes ….I see them running too! Running on empty;…. Running blind Running into the sun;…. But, I’m running behind. What makes this song so compelling is that, sadly, all too many of us are, “Running on empty.” The song describes a lot of us in this world, both literally and figuratively. As an aviator, gas is very important to me. Gas is good; no gas is simply, “airplane becomes big metal falling object.” And, as a carrier pilot, with lots of wet, ocean all around, you always want full gas tanks. So, you “top-off” from the airborne “tanker” aircraft every chance you get. Much like a lot of people trying to “top-off” their car’s gas tanks the past few weeks! I can honestly say that, as a pilot, I have never run out of gas… in the air that is. On the ground is another subject. My husband, Mike, and I were driving to his parent’s home in Prosperity, South Carolina late one Friday night. And we had one of those ‘married couple’ discussions. I kept recommending that we should stop for gas; and he insisted that we could make it. -
Chapter 4: INFORMAL FALLACIES I
Essential Logic Ronald C. Pine Chapter 4: INFORMAL FALLACIES I All effective propaganda must be confined to a few bare necessities and then must be expressed in a few stereotyped formulas. Adolf Hitler Until the habit of thinking is well formed, facing the situation to discover the facts requires an effort. For the mind tends to dislike what is unpleasant and so to sheer off from an adequate notice of that which is especially annoying. John Dewey, How We Think Introduction In everyday speech you may have heard someone refer to a commonly accepted belief as a fallacy. What is usually meant is that the belief is false, although widely accepted. In logic, a fallacy refers to logically weak argument appeal (not a belief or statement) that is widely used and successful. Here is our definition: A logical fallacy is an argument that is usually psychologically persuasive but logically weak. By this definition we mean that fallacious arguments work in getting many people to accept conclusions, that they make bad arguments appear good even though a little commonsense reflection will reveal that people ought not to accept the conclusions of these arguments as strongly supported. Although logicians distinguish between formal and informal fallacies, our focus in this chapter and the next one will be on traditional informal fallacies.1 For our purposes, we can think of these fallacies as "informal" because they are most often found in the everyday exchanges of ideas, such as newspaper editorials, letters to the editor, political speeches, advertisements, conversational disagreements between people in social networking sites and Internet discussion boards, and so on. -
