2014‐15 Liberty University Women’s Basketball Game No. 11 – Dec. 21, 2014 Liberty (6‐4) vs. No. 1/1 South Carolina (11‐0) Subway Classic Williams Arena – Minneapolis, Minn.

Matchup Notes • Liberty will be facing the nation’s No. 1 team for the first time since March 14, 1998, when No. 1 Tennessee defeated the Lady Flames, 102‐58, in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. • The Lady Flames’ most recent matchup with a Top 25 team was a 77‐43 setback to No. 21/21 Purdue in the first round of the 2013 NCAA Tournament (March 24, 2013). Their last win over a Top 25 opponent was an 88‐79 triumph over No. 16/16 DePaul in the second round of the 2005 NCAA Tournament (March 22, 2005). That also marked the highest‐ranked team Liberty has ever defeated. • The only previous meeting between Liberty and South Carolina came on March 16, 2002 in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament. The host Gamecocks held off the Lady Flames, 69‐61, despite 19 points by the Lady Flames’ Stephanie Walker. South Carolina got double‐doubles from Petra Ujhelyi (19 points, 11 rebounds) and Jocelyn Penn (13 points, 14 rebounds). • Sunday’s game will mark the Lady Flames’ first meeting with a SEC opponent since a 70‐55 loss at Texas A&M on Nov. 20, 2012. Liberty’s only SEC win was an 80‐76 victory at Kentucky on Dec. 12, 1998. • South Carolina head coach Dawn Staley played against Liberty during her standout career at Virginia. She had 19 points and five steals during a 102‐61 Cavaliers win in Charlottesville, Va., on Jan. 8, 1989. • Liberty has handed two teams their first losses of the 2014‐15 season. The Lady Flames beat 2‐0 VCU on Nov. 18 and defeated 3‐0 Georgia State on Nov. 30. • Sunday’s matinee will be Liberty’s final non‐conference game of the regular season. The Lady Flames’ final 18 contests will be Big South Conference matchups, beginning Dec. 30 at UNC Asheville. • Liberty has lost back‐to‐back games for the first time in 2014‐15. The Lady Flames will look to avoid their first three‐game losing streak since they opened the 2013‐14 season at 0‐4. • South Carolina is off to an 11‐0 start for the first time in program history and is one win shy of equaling its longest‐ever win streak (12 games), set in 1979‐80 and 2001‐02.

A Look Back at Liberty’s 74‐60 Loss to Minnesota • Minnesota broke open a close game with a 12‐0 run to start the second half, pushing a six‐point lead out to 18.
