The METa Gala 2019

Many things in the world have not been named; and many things, even if they have been named, have never been described.

(NEW YORK / April 19, 2019) — On May 6, 2019, Jessica Wong and Ludovica Capobianco will be hosting the METa Gala, a unique, one-night only event at the Williamsburg Hotel, Brooklyn.

The METa Gala is a night dedicated to experimental art and music surrounding the theme of “camp” as defined by Susan Sontag in 1964 as “love of the unnatural, of artifice and exaggeration; style at the expense of content; the triumph of the epicene style.” Camp allows for any one, any creators, to experiment with multi-dimensional elements and themes without any consideration for content. The external aesthetic speaks all. The event aims at reverting the concept of Camp since, even if aesthetically relating to artifice and exaggeration, its focus is to look for content beyond surface exaggeration, for new ways of expression that mirrors the current. The METa Gala fulfills its mission through underground, genre-bending performances, sensory multimedia installations, and an open invitation to all who wish to attend.

The METa Gala is additionally a fundraising initiative towards a culminating exhibition in NYC featuring artists whose practice is centered on immersive and site specific installations, videos, and performances, all art forms that still have a peripheral presence in the art world, especially for young and emerging artists.

The evening will open at 8PM with a mingling cocktail hour, followed by performances by the multidisciplinary artist Greg Fox, the multi-hyphenate creative Tygapaw, and Juke legend Traxman, and the music producer and DJ Ariel Zetina. The performers’ sets will coincide with video projections and installation work by James Moore, Kip Davis, and Zoe Fitzgerald.

Tickets start at $75; VIP entry (open bar) at $125, and VIP Tables for 7 (open bar and bottle service) at $1,000. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit bit.ly/2V2lPU1. The Williamsburg Hotel is located on 96 Wythe Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11249.

Greg Fox is a multi-instrumentalist, interdisciplinary artist, and teacher born and based in New York City. A versatile and prolific creative, Fox has toured, recorded and released numerous

records with Liturgy, Guardian Alien, ZS, Ex Eye, Skeletons, Teeth Mountain, Dan Deacon, Colin Stetson, Ben Frost, and many more. Fox’s solo work is concerned with finding and creating gestural points of procedural interaction that reconcile seemingly unrelated interstitial spaces, using sound to create and describe emotional and geometric architectural territories.

TYGAPAW (Dion McKenzie) is a Multi-Disciplined producer and DJ based in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. Her Jamaican ancestry and upbringing fused with her 13 years living in New York City have influenced a music style she dubs “Sultry Club.” She incorporates sexy 90’s R&B sounds with futuristic vibes and intricate melodies that are as much for the club as they are for a chill kiki at your home girls crib. Her productions are unique and specific to her history. She is the curator behind “Fake Accent,” a monthly Brooklyn based queer club night that has featured DJ’s such as Rizzla, False Witness, JX Canon, HD, Mursi Layne and more, and also the co-curator behind queer Caribbean party series and creative platform, “SHOTTAS NYC.”

Traxman (Cornelius Ferguson) is from the West Side of and one of the longest serving producers working in House and with releases stretching back to the glory days of Ghetto House on Dance Mania records in the nineties. His unique brand of Footwork is very strongly rooted in Chicago's history of Soul, , House and Ghetto Trax. Traxman's own productions are an incredibly well rounded suture between ’s natural funk and resourceful sample flipping, the hyper-kinetic innovation of footwork’s stop-start, half-time to double-speed drum programming and a deep respect and understanding of Chicago’s House past, that few producers can match.

Ariel Zetina is a Chicago based artist, focusing on music production and deejaying. Though her music can be considered , she takes inspiration from , Belizean genres punta and brukdown, and the queer club scene worldwide. Her ruthless, cross genre DJs have been heard worldwide- her favorites include R4R (Berlin), Brutaz (Warsaw), Festival Grounded (Ljubljana), Femmetopia (London), Mixed Forms (SF), Directory (LA), Swetboxx (Miami), Discwoman (Detroit) & Wrecked/Carry Nation (NYC).
