2019 Liberty Baseball NCAA Regional Notes LIBERTY FLAMES BASEBALL Previous NCAA Regional Liberty in NCAA Regionals Appearances • Liberty will be making its sixth NCAA Regional appearance and its first since 2014. The Flames have gained a regional berth with a conference automatic bid five times, while earning an at-large selection in 2014. 1993 • Liberty has previously participated in a NCAA Division I Regional in 1993, 1998, 2000, 2013 and 2014. The Flames captured NCAA Atlanta Regional Big South Championships in 1993, 1998, 2000 and 2013 to earn inclusion in the NCAA field. The Scott Jackson Regional? • Liberty Head Coach Scott Jackson has ties to three of the four programs in the 2019 Chapel Hill Regional. Besides his three years as the Flames head coach and one year as an assistant at Liberty in 2008, Jackson was an assistant coach at North Carolina under Head Coach Mike Fox from 2009-16 and was the pitching coach at UNCW under Head Coach Mike Schalf from 2003-07. • During Jackson's time at North Carolina, the Tar Heels made three College World Series appearances, while at UNCW, the Seahawks advanced to their first regional in 2003 and advanced to play in three NCAA Regionals. • Jackson's Liberty teams have squared off with Fox's North Carolina teams each of the last three seasons. However, Liberty has not played UNCW during Jackson's tenure. • In addition, Liberty pitching coach Bryant Gaines was both a player and coach at North Carolina from 2007-16.
