Friends Chandler Bing Tv Guide Friends chandler bing tv guide Continue Over the course of ten seasons, Friends has seen many relationships succeed. And while much of the series keeps its focus on the roller coaster that Ross and Rachel have, the strongest love story belongs to Chandler and Monica. While fans of the show have a soft spot for brother Monica and best friend - after all, they're each other's lobsters - many claim that Chandler and Monica are the couple's best friends. From their origin stories to how they went from best friends to soul mates, we share all the reasons why Chandler and Monica are the couple's best friends, below. Chandler and Monica started out as just friends. | NBC 1. They were friends, at first no one saw Chandler and Monica's relationship coming. In the end, we were too bogged down in the disastrous wedding of Ross and Emily. However, the timing could not have been more perfect. However, their rendezvous did not happen until the end of season 4, meaning they were friends for nearly four whole seasons (and even long before that). Their friendship gave their relationship a solid foundation. 2. They take each other's flaws and differences One of the biggest reasons why Chandler and Monica are the couple's best friends? They accept the flaws and differences of each other. Chandler knows Monica is obsessed with cleaning as well as, at times, competitive, and he's fine with that. Monica knows Chandler is afraid of commitment, and she not only accepts it, but she also helps him overcome it. 3. They call each other because of their friendship, Monica and Chandler spent years calling each other. That didn't change once they started dating. The two constantly call each other, and are always honest, even when it's hard to be. 4. Monica helped Chandler overcome her fear of commitment It is no secret that Chandler is the worst in commitment. But, while he struggled with it, Monica helped him see the light in their relationship - and other changes - to get over the hump. Throughout their relationship, he overcomes many of his fears of obligations, including marriage. 5. Their long-distance relationship worked when Chandler took the job in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the two knew it was going to be a difficult transition for them. However, they did it work, and eventually Chandler quit his job so he could be there for his best half. 6. They offered each other Chandler, and Monica's proposal was tear-jerking. Chandler had originally planned to propose to Monica, but failed miserably after he used his fear of marriage as a cover. Around the same time, Monica's ex-boyfriend Richard confessed his love to her, which ruined Chandler's plan and further embarrassed Monica. Eventually, Monica knew who she wanted to spend her life with, and got down on one knee. After she struggled to get the words, Chandler got down on one knee with her and offered. 7. They are After all, their teamwork is the real reason why Chandler and Monica are the couple's best friends. No matter what life throws at them, they always find a way to work through it together and come out on top. Check out the Cheat sheet on Facebook! It's hard to choose your favorite Friends character. Why Chandler is the best character on Friends of Chandler is without a doubt one of the most hilarious characters on Friends. But, his humor is only part of his personality. From his brutal honesty to his humility, we share all the reasons why Chandler is the best character on Friends, below. 1. His sense of humor is unparalleled Chandler likes to poke fun at his friends. And while it can sometimes take it too far, it also helps keep them humble. In many ways, his humor is what brings him closer to his friends - especially Joey, who, ironically, shares the same sense of humor. 2. It's incredibly blunt If there's an elephant in the room, you can always count on Chandler to be the first to call him. Although his honesty is not always appreciated, Chandler helps bring many situations to light and keeps the circle as open as possible (whether they like it or not). After all, he says what we all think and we love him for it. 3. He accepts the flaws of each (including his own) There is no one more accepting than Chandler on the show. Chandler decides to go beyond each character's nitty-gritty and love his friends despite their flaws. On top of that, he is very open and honest about his own problems. But, instead of hiding them or living above them, it ensures that everyone knows. 4. He is not afraid of Monica Although he can act like this at times, Chandler is not afraid of Monica's intensity. He constantly calls her out for being too clean and overbearing and once brave enough to unlock her messy storage closet to reveal her dark secrets. 5. He has a bank account joey talk about a good friend! When Joey is struggling financially - pretty much the whole series - Chandler didn't hesitate to support his friend. And, at the top of everything, he asks nothing in in 6. He tells anecdotes in uncomfortable situations Everyone can use an icebreaker from time to time. And Chandler certainly is. Whenever he's uncomfortable, Chandler resorts to a bad joke. And while this usually makes things even more uncomfortable for him, it makes his friends a little less uncomfortable. 7. His love for Monica Chandler and Monica couldn't be more perfect for each other. From the way he looks at her to the unique bond they share together, they're the couple's best friends - which automatically makes Chandler the best character on friends. • An Analysis of Hegemonic Social Structures in "Friends"
"I'LL BE THERE FOR YOU" IF YOU ARE JUST LIKE ME: AN ANALYSIS OF HEGEMONIC SOCIAL STRUCTURES IN "FRIENDS" Lisa Marie Marshall A Dissertation Submitted to the Graduate College of Bowling Green State University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY August 2007 Committee: Katherine A. Bradshaw, Advisor Audrey E. Ellenwood Graduate Faculty Representative James C. Foust Lynda Dee Dixon © 2007 Lisa Marshall All Rights Reserved iii ABSTRACT Katherine A. Bradshaw, Advisor The purpose of this dissertation is to analyze the dominant ideologies and hegemonic social constructs the television series Friends communicates in regard to friendship practices, gender roles, racial representations, and social class in order to suggest relationships between the series and social patterns in the broader culture. This dissertation describes the importance of studying television content and its relationship to media culture and social influence. The analysis included a quantitative content analysis of friendship maintenance, and a qualitative textual analysis of alternative families, gender, race, and class representations. The analysis found the characters displayed actions of selectivity, only accepting a small group of friends in their social circle based on friendship, gender, race, and social class distinctions as the six characters formed a culture that no one else was allowed to enter. iv ACKNOWLEDGMENTS This project stems from countless years of watching and appreciating television. When I was in college, a good friend told me about a series that featured six young people who discussed their lives over countless cups of coffee. Even though the series was in its seventh year at the time, I did not start to watch the show until that season.

  • Gender Stereotypes in the Sitcom Friends 1
Running Header: GENDER STEREOTYPES IN THE SITCOM FRIENDS 1 Gender Stereotypes in the Sitcom Friends: Content Analysis Kelly Reed Indiana Wesleyan University GENDER STEREOTYPES IN THE SITCOM FRIENDS 2 A Content Analysis Introduction One research method is to perform a content analysis on the subject in which the researcher wishes to expand knowledge. This study over gender stereotypes is a content analysis. A content analysis is a way to understand text and image in numbers, and is a quantitative research method. “In the context of communication research, content analysis is a quantitative, systematic, and objective technique for describing the manifest content of communications,” said Treadwell (2014). In this study, gender stereotypes are content analyzed in the sitcom, Friends. It is important to study these stereotypes because of the relationship between gender stereotypes in media, specifically television, and gender stereotypes within society. The show, Friends, is a good sample for a study of gender stereotypes in media because it focuses on the interaction between the three female characters and the three male characters. It depicts the way twenty year olds wanted to be acting and living during that time. The plot of sitcoms redefines the idea of a normal, typical life of an American. It is also an interesting study because it allows for a broad time span to be analyzed, since it aired for 10 years (Poniewozik, 2004). This study uses coding of each stereotype to count the frequency that certain male and female stereotypes are portrayed in a sample of 25 episodes. The results are analyzed to either verify or disprove hypotheses made during the initial research process.

Friends fans have expressed their concern after Matthew Perry appeared to slur his speech in a promo for the upcoming reunion special. It was hard to overlook Perry's awkward demeanor as he sat with co-stars Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, David Schwimmer and Matt LeBlanc to tease the show, which was shot in April and will air on May 27 via HBO and HBO Max. The 51-year-old actor stammered and stared in the clip, even slurring together his words at one point. When asked if he ever took anything from set as a souvenir, he admitted: 'I stole the cookie jar that had the clock on it' with a heavy 'sh' sound at the start of 'stole.' Worrisome: Matthew Perry raised concerns after appearing to slur his speech in a teaser for the upcoming Friends reunion, which airs later this month. Off kilter: The 51-year-old actor stammered and stared while with co-stars Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, David Schwimmer and Matt LeBlanc, even slurring together his words at one point. Though his speech was stilted, Matthew's physical appearance was on the healthier side. His castmates were able to hide any of their concerns, as David and Matt giggled and smiled at the TV star, who played Chandler Bing on the NBC hit. But fans were quick to voice their worries.

  • Masculinities in the Television Series Friends
Masculinities in the television series ‘Friends’ A different kind of male friendship? A dissertation submitted to the University of Manchester for the degree of MA (Econ) in the Faculty of Economic and Social Studies Manchester, September 2000 by Vegard Iglebæk Women’s Studies Centre Department of Sociology Abstract This dissertation discusses friendships between men in the Northern American television series Friends and focuses upon two of the male characters, Joey Tribbiani and Chandler Bing. Friends shows six twenty-something men and women, sharing two flats in the middle of New York's Manhattan. Even though the series can be interpreted as conveying heterosexual values aimed towards a younger, mainstream audience, I argue that the relation between two of the men, being flatmates, is possibly representing different models of male friendships than usually seen in these kind of series. Personal disclosure and intimacy among heterosexual, Northern-European and American men tend to be restricted to specific arenas and situations, such as blissful moments at the football pitch or in situations of external crisis. Joey and Chandler's constant negotiating of degrees of intimacy is among the plots in the series. However, their relation stands out from the crowd compared to other series' narratives of relations between men. Joey and Chandler can be interpreted as widening the degree of acceptable personal disclosure, rather than being threatened by it. One might claim that they are opening up spaces for new ways of doing heterosexual masculinities, struggling to define modes of acceptable communication in their strictly heterosexual context. I am scrutinising a few scenes from selected episodes, discussing these issues from a sociological point of view, informed by cultural theory.

Data Augmentation and Ensembling for FriendsQA Stanford CS224N Custom Project—March 19, 2021 Jazon Jiao Nina Du Department of Computer Science Department of Computer Science Stanford University Stanford University [email protected] [email protected] Abstract FriendsQA is a challenging QA dataset consisting of 10,610 questions, based on multi-person dialogues from the TV series Friends. We augmented its training data using back-translation, and proposed a novel method to effectively find answers in paraphrased contexts, by comparing the sum of word embeddings. Combining data augmentation with ensembling of BERT-large models, we pushed state-of-the-art Fl / EM scores on FriendsQA from 69.6 / 53.5 to 72.08 / 54.62. 1 Key Information to include ¢ Mentor: Andrew Wang e External Mentor: Yi Cheng (yicheng98@163. com) 2 Introduction Rapid progress on Question Answering (QA) has been made in recent years. However, widely used benchmarks on QA, such as SQUAD[1], Natural Questions[2] and NewsQA[3], mostly consist of passages from Wikipedia or other online sources, yet this is only one category of human languages. One other crucial aspect of languages comes in the form of everyday conversations, and understanding them is equally important for better machine comprehension on human languages. In this paper, we explore the FriendsQA dataset, first presented by Yang and Choi [4]. FriendsQA is a question answering dataset that contains 1,222 dialogues and 10,610 open-domain questions based on transcripts from the TV show Friends. It is the first dataset that challenges span-based QA on multiparty dialogue with daily topics.

  • 8 TV Power Games: Friends and Law & Order
8 TV Power Games: Friends and Law & Order There is no such thing as a one-man show | at least not in television: one feature that all TV shows have in common is the combination of a large number of diverse contributors: producers, scriptwriters, actors, and so on. This is illustrated in Exhibit 8.1, which depicts the links between key contributors to the making and selling of a TV show. Solid lines repre- sent some form of contractual relationship, whereas dashed lines represent non-contractual relationships of relevance for value creation and value distribution. As is the case with movies, pharmaceutical drugs, and other products, the distribution of TV show values is very skewed: many TV shows are worth relatively little, whereas a few shows generate a very high value: For example, at its peak Emmy Award-winning drama ER fetched $13 million per episode.1 How does the value created by successful shows get divided among its various contrib- utors, in particular actors, producers and networks? Who gets the biggest slice of the big pie? In this chapter, I address this question by looking at two opposite extreme cases in terms of relative negotiation power: Law & Order and Friends. Law & Order | and profits The legal drama series Law & Order was first broadcast on NBC on September 13, 1990. (The pilot episode, produced in 1988, was intended for CBS, but the network rejected it, just as Fox did later, in both cases because the show did not feature any \breakout" characters.) By the time the last show aired on May 24, 2010, it was the longest-running crime drama on American prime time TV.

Multimodal learning analytics on sustained attention by measuring ambient noise Jeffrey Pronk Responsible Professor: Marcus Specht (PhD) Supervisor: Yoon Lee (PhD candidate) Peer group members: Giuseppe Deininger (BSc student) Jurriaan Den Toonder (BSc student) Sven van der Voort (BSc student) I Abstract In this research, a learner’s sustained attention in the remote learning context will be studied by collecting data from different sensors. By combining the results of these sensors in a multi-modal analytics tool, the estimation of the learner’s sustained at- tention can hopefully be improved. This research will mainly focus on microphone recordings of ambient sound in a learners room. The main research question of this re- search was "How can ambient noise sensing aid in a multi-modal analytics tool to track sustained attention?". The multi-modal learning analytics tool, if accurate enough, could potentially be used by teachers to make their material more engaging and could help learner’s to keep their focus while performing a learning task (Schneider et al., 2015). The research resulted in a model with 61% accuracy. This percentage needs to be further researched, since because of the COVID situation, not enough data could be collected to train the model. Because of the relatively low accuracy of the model, it was found that ambient noise sensing can aid the multi-modal analytics tool to some extent by adding some data-points it is certain about, when the mobile movement tracking model does not detect a distraction. If the model improves in future research, the model could be able to help mobile movement tracking model, even if the mobile movement tracking model already predicts a distraction with bigger then 50% certainty.
