For over one hundred years, the company has offered superior quality products, adhering to the philosophy that, “You are what you eat, drink, breathe, think, say, and do!” ® Written by Leon Bracey ragg Live Food Products legacy in the health industry has stood the test of time. The company was founded by Dr. Paul C. Bragg, known as the “Father of America’s Health Movement.” As Ba survivor of tuberculosis, Dr. Bragg dedicated his life to educating people about health and wellness. Dr. Bragg was a true pioneer of promoting healthy living during the 20th century, promoting the benefits of purified water, juices, herbal teas and organic foods in the United States. He also promoted his message of healthy living to his followers by creating a radio show in the 1920s and a television show years later. The television program, named “Health and Happiness” was a five-day-a- week, half-hour show comprised of exercise time, healthy recipes and visual demonstrations. The show also featured famous people who shared their health and happiness secrets with the viewers. Back in 1912, Dr. Bragg was also known for opening the United States’ first Health Food Store in Los Angeles; this is where Bragg Live Food Products got its start. Today, Bragg has refined that number to over 20 different signature health food products and 10 self-health books that remain bestsellers to this day. Bragg was instrumental in introducing health food products to the American market including herbal teas, health beverages, vitamin drinks, seven-grain cereals and crackers, health cosmet- ics, health candies, calcium, vitamin and mineral supplements, wheat germ, digestive enzymes from papaya, herbs and kelp seasonings, and amino acids from soybeans. Dr. Bragg lived up to his message of living a healthy lifestyle by fasting and employing juice therapy and breathing exer- cises, and he excelled in running, swimming, biking, progres- sive weight training and mountain climbing. Made from organic apples, Bragg Organic Apple Cider Vinegar is noted for its quality and health benefits. Certified organic by the USDA, unfiltered, and unpasteurized, Bragg Organic Apple Cider Vinegar has been a staple of Bragg products from the very beginning. Due to the popularity of Bragg Organic Apple Cider Vinegar, the company has also introduced flavored drinks with the organic apple cider vinegar as an ingredient, in flavors such as honey, apple cinnamon, concord grape & açai berry, ginger, lime, stevia, and pomegranate-goji berry. “A lot of people drink our apple cider vinegar with water, so we expanded on that to make consump- BUSINESS IN FOCUS 7 tion of the apple cider vinegar more convenient to people,” explains Dr. Westerdahl. Bragg products have received numerous awards for their health benefits and taste. For example, its Organic Apple Cider Vinegar has been awarded by grocer Whole Foods Magazine Natural Choice Award from 2010 to 2012. It also won a seal of approval from Bon Appetit Magazine in 2012. VegNews awarded its Liquid Aminos the Veggie Award for Best Con- diment. Bragg’s salad dressings have also become popular in the market. For example, its Vinaigrette is a blend of its Organic Apple Cider Vinegar, organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil, purified water, organic honey, organic garlic, Bragg Liquid Aminos, organic onion, and organic black pepper. Other flavors include a ginger-sesame blend, the BRAGGBERRY blend (made with Blueberries, Raspberries, Acai Berries, Goji Berries, and Grapes), and a pomegranate vinaigrette. “There is a special need today for healthier food alternatives.” Bragg Liquid Aminos are a vegetable protein-based season- ing that can be used as an alternative to soy sauce. The company also has a line of season- ings that can be used on vegetables and meats, many of which are specified for sodium free diets. • About the Author
ABOUT THE AUTHOR... When John Thomas began his pur- suit of agelessness, his calendar age was only 27, while his real age—that is, his bio-electric age—was 39. Today 2006, John is 61 years by the calendar; yet his bio-electric age is only 19 years “young!” Thomas is living proof that aging and aging reversal are matters of “choice.” John was heavily influenced by the exemplary lives of Paul C. Bragg, and Photo taken August ‘96 Jack LaLanne. At age 61, John can personally at- test “I’ve been there and done it!” He has reversed all of the signs of aging in his body by following a “model” that is based on the way the body actually works—rather than relying on “experts” and their faulty “medical model” which does NOT deliver the desired results! Except for emergency procedures and “parts” replacement, Thomas says medical “science” is a mess of confusion and failure. The “alternative” ap- proach is based on a similar faulty model—offering people safer band-aids, but little “meaningful” progress. The “PROOF” says Thomas is “All the sick and dying healers!” Young Again! is an indictment of a faulty medical “mod- el”—and the “sick care” system it seeded and perpetuates! Thomas uncovered the mysteries behind the aging process; then devel- oped and tested the Young Again Model™—a model based on thinking and living outside the box! The results are undeniable and available to anyone seeking a better life—free of dependence on the “sick-care” system. Young Again! is meaningful because the author has personally lived the subject mat- ter—and is living proof that aging reversal is within people’s reach if they want it.

Ten women ranging in age from 21 to 66 participated in the study. Data sources included individual interviews, short follow-up interviews, participant written reflections, and researcher field notes and reflections. The study was grounded in an interpretivist theoretical perspective. The methodology of narrative inquiry guided the development of the study’s design, data collection, and analysis processes. Data were analyzed through primarily thematic and some structural narrative analysis (Reissman, 2008) and concepts from feminist theory to explore both what was said and how the stories were structured in order to detect common themes. The women’s stories described the various educational spaces in which they learned lessons about their bodies, formed their self-image, and adopted their gendered roles.

Mark Force, DC …functional & natural healthcare Ashland, Oregon, USA theelementsofhealth.com Health Care in Crisis: Where We Are, How We Got Here, What To Do by Mark Force, DC Intro “Let's face it we do have a health care cost challenge. We're spending about 16 to 17 percent of our GDP (gross domestic product) on health care and the sad truth is that there isn't universal access to quality care. You'll have a lot of people citing different people to fault for that including our industry for the price of medicine." The real honest truth is that we don't have a health care system; we have a sick care system. And that's not a play on words, that's a fact, because what's driving costs in our country is that we have now almost half of our country, including every woman, man and child, who has one or more chronic diseases and we don't start spending on you until you get sick. Forty five percent of Americans are living with one or more chronic diseases and the older we get the higher that percentage goes up. " "That 45 percent accounts for 75% of the now almost $2.4 trillion we spend on health care and in 2007 terms, that now averages almost $7,200 per person living in the U.S. and that is an astonishing number and that is just what we spend on treatment.”1 ~Robert Ingram, Vice Chairman Pharmaceuticals for GlaxoSmithKline2 “The U.S. has the resources that allow people to get fat and lazy.
