You are part of the historic first class of new students to enroll under our new name. We thank God for you! Leadership characteristics related to being MISSIONAL in character and practice: • God’s Mission (M15) — A Christian leader understands the biblical, theological, historical, personal, and experiential foundations of God’s redemptive purposes. • Mobilization (M16) — A Christian leader influences and mobilizes others to accelerate the fulfillment of the Great Commission. • Missions Commitment (M17) — A Christian leader demonstrates personal commitment to the fulfillment of the Great Commission. 6 Leadership characteristics related to being RELEVANT in one’s ministry framework: • Relevance (R18) — A Christian leader understands the biblical, theological, historical, personal, and experiential foundations of communicating the Gospel in a meaningful way in context. • Contextual Ministry (R19) — A Christian leader is capable of determining how to communicate the gospel effectively within different ministry contexts. • Relevance Commitment (R20) — A Christian leader demonstrates a commitment to interpreting the gospel in his or her context of ministry. • Vision (R21) — A Christian leader is capable of understanding and articulating the form of God’s mission for a particular ministry situation. 7 The Baptist Faith and Message Adopted by the Southern Baptist Convention June 14, 2000 Preamble The 1999 session of the Southern Baptist Convention, meeting in Atlanta, Georgia, adopted the following motion addressed to the President of the Convention: “I move that in your capacity as Southern Baptist Convention chairman, you appoint a blue ribbon committee to review the Baptist Faith and Message statement with the responsibility to report and bring any recommendations to this meeting next June in Orlando.” President Paige Patterson appointed the committee as follows: Max Barnett (OK), Steve Gaines (AL), Susie Hawkins (TX), Rudy A. The front matter for the book includes acknowledgments, a general introDuc- tion by Van Pelt, abbreviations, a table of graMMatical terMs, anD a bibliography. The authors then divide the book into two main sections, with Patton discussing Hebrew prose and Putnam covering Hebrew poetry. The Hebrew prose section begins with an introduction and a chapter that covers Discourse analysis in general. These are followed by chapters on discourse markers in Hebrew, verbal sequences in narrative and non-narrative, placing non-verbal elements before a verb, and verbless clauses.

"I believe God used this time to pray with others about our great needs here in America and around the globe," Floyd, president and CEO of the SBC Executive Committee, said shortly after the conclusion of the SBC Good Friday Prayer Gathering. "God also used this time to encourage each of us about all God is doing through our churches, and the work we do together in America and the world."     The Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission | Here We Stand As evangelical Christians, we dissent from the court’s ruling that redefines marriage. The state did not create the family, and should not try to recreate the family in its own image. We will not capitulate on marriage because biblical authority requires that we cannot. The outcome of the Supreme Court’s ruling to redefine marriage represents what seems like the result of a half-century of witnessing marriage’s decline through divorce, cohabitation, and a worldview of almost limitless sexual freedom. The Supreme Court’s actions pose incalculable risks to an already volatile social fabric by alienating those whose beliefs about marriage are motivated by deep biblical convictions and concern for the common good. The Bible clearly teaches the enduring truth that marriage consists of one man and one woman. From Genesis to Revelation, the authority of Scripture witnesses to the nature of biblical marriage as uniquely bound to the complementarity of man and woman. This truth is not negotiable. The Lord Jesus himself said that marriage is from the beginning (Matt. 19:4-6), so no human institution has the authority to redefine marriage any more than a human institution has the authority to redefine the gospel, which marriage mysteriously reflects (Eph. 5:32). The Supreme Court’s ruling to redefine marriage demonstrates mistaken judgment by disregarding what history and countless civilizations have passed on to us, but it also represents an aftermath that evangelicals themselves, sadly, are not guiltless in contributing to. Too often, professing evangelicals have failed to model the ideals we so dearly cherish and believe are central to gospel proclamation.

    ABSTRACT A NEW PURPOSE: RICK WARREN, THE MEGACHURCH MOVEMENT, AND EARLY TWENTY-FIRST CENTURY AMERICAN EVANGELICAL DISCOURSE by Myev Alexandra Rees This thesis is a study of Rick Warren, celebrity pastor and bestselling author of The Purpose Driven Life, and his role in the late twentieth and early twenty-first century American evangelical discourse. This thesis provides a historical, cultural, and theological description of American evangelicalism and of the megachurch movement in order to facilitate an understanding of Warren’s influence on both categories. Finally, this thesis argues that Warren’s influence and leadership are causing a cultural and theological shift within American evangelicalism.
