It is comprising more than 18,000 described species. In Korea, a total of 910 species have been recorded to date. In the present study, nine species of the family Braconidae are recorded for the first time from Korea: Aneurobracon philippinensis (Musebeck), Cenocoelius japonicus (Watanabe), Rattana sinica He & Chen, Adelius clandestinus (Förster), Blacometeorus brevicauda (Hellen), Centistes minutus Chen & Achterberg, Centistes sylvicola Belokobylskij, Gnamptodon sichotaealinicus Belokobylskij, Cotesia urabae Austin & Allen. Diagnosis, distribution and host information for the each species are provided. It was my original intention to provide a newsletter for bracon1d research only. However responses to our quest1ona1re overwelmingly supported the 1nclus1on of ichneumon1d research news. It 1s too late to include reports on Ichneumonidae research in this issue but we will begin to incorporate them next year . I was going to call the newsletter Braconologist's Bulletin, but since we will be including ichneumon1d research 1n the future I dec1ded to st1ck w1th the t1tle Ichnews. It should be noted that 'Ich' 1s an abbreviation for Ichneumonoidea not Ichneumon1dae as 1t was before. The last 1ssue of Ichnews was publ1shed by M. Fitton and I. Gauld 1n .· 1980 as number 6. We continue therefore beginning with number 7. Paul Marsh and I have decided to edit this publication together. We w111 alternate years. This year I have taken care of the newsletter and next year Paul w111. This issue of Ichnews 1s very late; from now on we hope to send out a quest1onaire in early fall and to have a finished product in the ma11 by the early spring. There were a few minor problems with this year's responses to the questionaire. Most people did not give important details about the scope of - 2 - their revisionary work. -

Cheloninae is a large subfamily containing 23 genera, 12 of which are found in the New World. PHYLOGENY. Kittel et al. (2016) presented a phylogenetic analysis of the world genera and demonstrated that the subfamily Adeliinae is nested within the subfamily Cheloninae. The Adeliinae were treated as a separate subfamily in the previous publication of the Manual of the New World genera (Shaw 1997) but are now included within the Cheloninae. Kittel et al. (2016) recognized two tribes, one containing the species without the metasomal sutures, the Chelonini, the other tribe containing the species with metasomal sutures, the Phanerotomini , including the previously recognized adeliines. Another major result of the study was the synonymy of the (sub)genus Microchelonus Szépligeti with Chelonus Panzer. Lastly, Kittel et al. (2016) discussed the potential paraphyly of Ascogaster Wesmael. BIOLOGY. Chelonines have been considered to be solitary koinobiont egg-Iarval endoparasitoids of concealed Lepidoptera, especially Tortricoidea and Pyraloidea (all chelonines) (Yu et al. 2016) or Nepticulidae (adeliines; Whitfield and Wagner, 1991). However, recently Sharkey et al. (unpublished) have found three gregarious species in Costa Rica. It is not clear, whether these species inject multiple eggs into the host's egg or whether they are polyembryonic. COMMON GENERA. Ascogaster, Chelonus, and Phanerotoma Wesmael. -

One of the four mega diverse orders within the class Insecta is Hymenoptera which include ants, bees and parasitic wasps. One of the many Hymenopteran subfamilies is Adeliinae, a group of tiny wasps that parasitize leaf mining Lepidoptera larvae. Only one described species of Adeliinae is hitherto known to occur in Sweden. However, this known species exhibits a wide range of polymorphism. In fact, the hypotheses if Adeliinae constitute a subfamily with just a few, but very variable species or if it is composed by a rich number of very similar species have never been tested before. The results in this study confirm the variation, but cannot state which of the hypotheses that is the most correct. Furthermore, the processed information from the traps in which the wasps were caught show that the Adeliinae are spread throughout Sweden and appear in a wide variety of habitats. Sammanfattning Insekter är den mest artrika och talrika djurgruppen på jorden. En av de fyra enormt artrika insektsordningarna inom klassen Insecta är Hymenoptera, eller steklar, som bland annat består av myror, bin och parasitsteklar. En av de många underfamiljerna bland steklarna är Adeliinae (dvärgmalsteklar), en grupp med små steklar som lägger ägg inuti larver av minerare. Det finns hittills endast en känd beskriven art i Sverige av dvärgmalsteklar. -

Life history evolution in the parasitoid Hymenoptera Ruth Elizabeth Traynor This thesis was submitted for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy University of York Department of Biology 2004 Abstract This thesis addresses life history evolution of the parasitoid Hymenoptera. It aims to identify assumptions that should be incorporated into parasitoid life history theory and the predictions that theory should aim to make. Both two species and multi-species comparative studies as well as up-to-date phylogenetic information are employed to investigate these issues. Anecdotal observations suggest that solitary parasitoids have narrower host ranges than closely related gregarious species. There are several possible reasons for this; for example gregarious species may be able to exploit larger bodied hosts because they can fully consume the host, which may be essential for successful pupation to occur. Comparative laboratory experiments between two closely related species of Aphaereta, one of which is solitary and the other gregarious, show no difference in the extent of host range. This study does, however, suggest that differences in the realized niche that each species occupies in the field may result from life history differences between the species. These differences may themselves have arisen due to solitary or gregarious development. The first multi-species study in the thesis uses a data set, compiled for the parasitic Hymenoptera by Blackburn (1990), to address factors that may influence body size and clutch size. This study builds on previous analyses of the data (see Blackburn 1990, 1991a/b, Mayhew & Blackburn 1999) through the use of up-to-date phylogenetic information. Evidence is found that the host stage attacked by a parasitoid is associated with both body and clutch size, due to the amount of resources available for the developing parasitoids. -
