! ! GANONG’S COLT MOWS DOWN THEM ALL IN SANTA CATERINA VALFURVA by Claudio Pea A success for the American who comes from the lake dear to Kit Carson and lives with Michelle Marie Gagnon – Another fantastic podium for Dominik Paris, the fourth of the season. And now it’s a second place in the DH World Cup – Second place for the Olympic champion Matthias Mayer – A change in the start because of the strong wind damages Christof Innerhofer – Eleventh place for Peter Fill, who has got fever SANTA CATERINA VALFURVA, DECEMBER 28TH - There is always someone who – for a few hundredth of a second – spoils Dominik Paris’ party. This time those “someone” are an American who comes from the town of Kit Carson, the legendary pioneer of the far west, and the number one of the Austrians, the Olympic DH champion in Sochi, Matthias Mayer. Travis Ganong, the winner of the Santa Caterina Valfurva Downhill World Cup lives with his Canadian girlfriend Marie Michelle Gagnon (she is a specialist of technical World Cup races) on Lake Tahoe, on the border between California and Nevada. Before today’s exploit he was on the podium only once, third place in the Kvitfjell DH, last year. However, for better or worse – and perhaps taking advantage of the long absence of Svindal and Guay due to injury – he is always one of the top DH 7. He grew up in the legendary Squaw Valley ski area, the home of the 1960 Winter Games and was a freeskier before dedicating to alpine skiing. “I love my mountains and the beautiful lake, and of course Marie Michelle.

  • Downhill Crystal Globe Austria Other Contenders
PREVIEW Ladies’ DOWNHILL – Wednesday 13 Mar 2019 Downhill crystal globe • The ladies' downhill crystal globe will either be won by Nicole Schmidhofer (444 points) or Ramona Siebenhofer (354). • Austria will win the ladies' downhill crystal globe fo a record-extending 19th time. The last Austrian woman to win the downhill globe was Renate Götschl in 2007. • Schmidhofer or Siebenhofer will become the first Austrian woman to win any World Cup standings since Eva-Maria Brem won the giant slalom crystal globe in 2016. • Siebenhofer must win and hope Schmidhofer finishes outside the top-15 in this race to win the crystal globe. • Coming into the races in Soldeu, Schmidhofer is also in contention for the super-G crystal globe. Five women have won the downhill and super-G standings in the same year of which Lindsey Vonn was the last to do so in 2015. Austria • Austrian women have won five of the seven ladies' downhill events this World Cup season: Nicole Schmidhofer (2), Ramona Siebenhofer (2) and Stephanie Venier (1). • This century, only one country has won at least six ladies' World Cup downhill races in a single season: United States in 2009/10 (6, all by Lindsey Vonn). • Austrian women could claim six downhill victories in a World Cup season for the first time since 1998/99 (6). • Siebenhofer and Schmidhofer could both become the first Austrian woman to win three World Cup downhill events in one season since Renate Götschl in 2006/07 (4 wins). Other contenders • Sofia Goggia has claimed three victories and four second places in her last eight World Cup downhill participations.

  • Vincent Kriechmayr Is Now a HEAD World Cup Rebel
Jun 15, 2020 16:15 CEST Vincent Kriechmayr is now a HEAD World Cup Rebel A prominent new addition to the HEAD Alpine World Cup Team: Vincent Kriechmayr, winner of two medals at the World Championships in Aare, joins the HEAD World Cup Rebels. The 28-year-old athlete from Upper Austria has signed a contract until 2022. "Vincent Kriechmayr has already demonstrated what he can do with his past successes. The fact that we are bringing him to HEAD in these difficult times is also an indication of our clear commitment to racing," says HEAD Racing Director Rainer Salzgeber. "It's awesome that with Vincent Kriechmayr and Matthias Mayer we now have the two best speed discipline skiers in Austria, who are also training together using our equipment. I expect not only advantages for us from this constellation. I am sure that with HEAD they can both take another step forward. Vincent Kriechmayr's focus is of course on the speed disciplines, but he also wants to nail the Giant Slalom next season." "I was looking for a new challenge and would like to take the next step as a HEAD World Cup Rebel. It's because of the success HEAD has had in recent years that I looked for a way of racing with them. I get on well with all the people here at HEAD, and I immediately felt good with the equipment. My goal is very simple: I want to become even better. I also want to take my Giant Slalom to the next level," says Vincent Kriechmayr happily.
