June 18, 2020 Thai Enquirer Summary Political News CARE, a new non-political group, was officially launched yesterday (June 17). The group is led by former senior members of the now defunct Thai Rak Thai (TRT) Party Dr Surapong Suebwonglee and Dr Prommin Lertsuridet, Poomtham Wechayachai, advisor to the Pheu Thai Party leader, Lakkhana “Khaek” Panvichai, an outspoken journalist and TV commentator, well-known architect Duangrith Bunnag and economist Supavuth Saichua. Former transport minister Chadchart Sittipunt, also a Bangkok governor candidate, also joined Care’s official debut as a spectator. Dr Prommin said the group now has 30-40 members, all positive thinkers who strive for creativity, rather than destruction, to find answers to the country’s myriad problems. He denied that his group is linked with former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra although he and fellow key members served in the Thaksin cabinet which allowed them to think, act independently to materialise Thaksin’s policies. “We are not dreaming, but we are making dreams come true,” he said. Leadership changes, which will have impacts on cabinet seats, are under way for 2 coalition parties---the Phalang Pracharat Party (PPRP) and the Ruamphalang Prachachartthai Party or Action Coalition for Thailand (ACT). The idea of Deputy Prime Minister General and PPRP Prawit Wongsuwan’s taking over the Phalang Pracharat Party (PPRP)’s leadership is getting closer to reality as he is the sole candidate for the party’s leadership. The aim of Gen. Prawit is to be the leader of the party for a mere 6-months Then they will have another AGM to select a new leader There are reports that the Sam Mitr faction of the PPRP has basically taken over the party as most of the key new leaders of the party are going to be from that faction that is lead by the former Transport Minister under Thaksin Shinawatra government – Suriya Juangroongruangkit.
