One Year to Go
One year to go IMPACT BEYOND 2019 Programme Update 1 YEAR TO GO Impact Beyond 2019 World Rugby On behalf of World Rugby I would like to express my gratitude to every- one involved in the Impact Beyond 2019 programme. Launched in 2013, Impact Beyond is a major strategy in World Rugby’s mission to grow the game globally, providing the platform for women and men, girls and boys to experience the game. With one year to go until Rugby World Cup 2019 kicks off at the Tokyo Stadium it is very encouraging to see such widespread engagement with the Impact Beyond programme throughout Japan and across Asia. The hard work and collaboration of our excellent partners at Asia Rugby, the Japan Rugby Football Union and all participating unions has resulted in the outstanding achievement of reaching almost 900,000 new rugby participants in Asia so far. The inclusion of the Tag Rugby programme in the PE curriculum of 1,982 schools in the Rugby World Cup host cities, with potential to reach 900,000 students and the training of 9,603 Tag Teachers ensures we are well on the way towards meeting the ambitious ‘Asia 1 Million’ target of attracting one million new rugby participants in Asia by 2020. Creating a sustainable legacy is a central pillar in our major event planning and we are proud of the success of the Impact Beyond programme in playing a leading role in rugby’s global growth story. The programme was at the heart of a very special Rugby World Cup 2015 which saw 17 Rugby Europe member unions strategically partner with RFU Counties and 340,000 new rugby par- ticipants in England. -

Fauci Says NFL Season Hopes Rest on Virus, Test Response Virus Will Make the Decision for Us: Fauci
18 Established 1961 Sports Wednesday, May 13, 2020 Photo of the day Italian golfers swing again as lockdown eases FASANO: One of Italy’s best known golf clubs has reopened after two months of lockdown with a handful of players returning to the links under new social distancing rules. San Domenico Golf in Apulia in the heel of Italy’s boot and neighbouring luxury resort Borgo Egnazia reopened at the weekend but face an uncertain future. “We closed at the beginning of March,” said Aldo Melpignano, owner of Borgo Egnazia, where Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel held their wedding in 2012. “But this week the Apulia Region allowed some individual sports to resume and golf is one of them. We jumped at the chance and decided to reopen immedi- ately at the weekend.” The resort and golf club will initially rely on Italian guests but hopes that foreigners will soon also return. “We’re resigned to this reali- ty at least for the summer,” he said. Notable changes in the rules on the greens are that players must keep at least three metres apart when hitting the ball and not remove the flag from the hole. European Tour professional Francesco Laporta has returned to training in the open after two months of hit- ting balls into a net in his garden. Laporta hopes the season will resume again at the end of July. “There will certainly be new rules to respect,” he said, including the lack of spectators. “I think the caddie will be able to keep on following us, working close to us,” he ROME: Red Bull Sailing led by double olympic gold medalists Roman Hagara and Hans Peter Steinacher compete in Italy. -
Programme Report World Rugby
World Rugby House, 8-10 Pembroke Street Lower, Dublin 2, D02 AE93, Ireland. T: +353-1-2409-200 E: [email protected] Programme Report World Rugby On behalf of World Rugby, I would like to express my gratitude to everyone involved in the outstanding achievements of the Impact Beyond 2019 programme. When the World Rugby Council awarded Rugby World Cup 2019 to Japan, we believed that it had the potential to be a powerful game-changer for rugby in Asia, the world’s most populous and youthful continent. In order to convert this potential into reality, the innovative Impact Beyond 2019 programme was created. The programme is closely aligned with World Rugby’s mission to grow the game globally and make a positive social impact through the power of rugby, leaving a long-lasting and sustainable legacy from our flagship event. The World Rugby programme, run in partnership with the Japan Rugby Football Union (JRFU), Asia Rugby and 22 unions, has delivered truly impressive results. It was right at the heart of a very special and record-breaking Rugby World Cup 2019 and surpassed all expectations by achieving an incredible 2.25 million new rugby participants across Asia, including more than one million in Japan. Rugby is more than just a game and as part of the Impact Beyond programme more than £2m was pledged in a fantastic show of solidarity from the global rugby family to support ChildFund Pass It Back, the principal Rugby World Cup 2019 charity partner. Funds raised are transforming the lives of over 25,000 vulnerable children in disadvantaged communities across Asia through an integrated life skills and rugby curriculum.
