The Dude 110 One of Q’s best works was 1981’s “The Dude”, earning multiple Grammy awards and adding something beautiful to the music world. This cocktail is an intoxicating concoction of Chivas 12 y whisky and Campari, soulfully blended with orgeat and Angostura bitters with a citric note of Persian lime. Body Heat 90 1974 saw the birth of another great work. “Body Heat” featured many new comers and still held a high position in pop charts proving the quality of Q’s skill. Presenting elegance in a glass, pepped with Chivas 12 y whisky, muddled with fresh Granny Smith and apricot jam. It is then shaken vigorously with fresh lemon juice, apricot brandy and egg white for a foamy potion. Smackwater Jack 95 For those who appreciate the timeless Espresso, we give you a take on the classic espresso Martini with a revolutionary touch. Jack Daniels Single Barrel Whiskey is shaken vigorously with Kahlua, Frangelico, Arabica coffee and dulce du leche and finished with perfumed mandarin zest. #palazzoversacedubai #qsbarandlounge All prices are in UAE Dirhams and inclusive of 10% municipality fees and 10% service charge Q’S SIGNATURE COCKTAILS Mellow Madness 130 This album from 1975 featured the madly talented “The brothers Johnson” who went on to work with Q for many years to come. The collaboration cemented a future of brilliant music together. A symphony of madness with a heavenly combination of Belvedere Polish vodka, passionfruit and fresh green apples, fluffed up with Ruinart brut Champagne. Fresh Prince (of Bel-Air) 85 As the producer of one of the hottest sitcoms of all time, Quincy keeps it fresh… With an attractive pink blush, this divine trio combines the grace of Absolut Elyx luxury vodka, Chambord and Butterscotch liqueur. Perfectly portioned for a prince charming. Off The Wall 120 The first Michael Jackson album, released in 1979 and accomplishing the phenomenal 20 million sales and topping numerous charts across the globe. Lose yourself in the decadent luxury of Hennessy Cognac and Ruinart Brut Champagne, poignantly combined with saffron infused heather honey, a splash of lime and egg white served with a mist of Angostura orange bitters. #palazzoversacedubai #qsbarandlounge All prices are in UAE Dirhams and inclusive of 10% municipality fees and 10% service charge Q’S SIGNATURE COCKTAILS Vibe 80 As the founder of the entertainment magazine giant, Vibe, Quincy has always been hip to Pop culture’s newest trends. Successfully creating the vibe with a sophisticated blend of Beefeater 24 gin, Antica formula and Campari, this very long and extremely refreshing swizzle is a fitting tribute to the classic Negroni. Quintessence 95 A 1960s pan European tour of Q’s orchestra “Quintessence” proved to be one of the most challenging periods in Q’s life, placing Q under immense pressure and resulting in massive personal growth. Magnificently capturing the essence of Hennessy Cognac, sweetened slightly with our finest Port and a hint of Galliano shaken together with mint, sugar and Angostura bitters. Thriller 85 The highest selling Album of all time. During the recording of this album, the session got so intense one of the speakers caught fire, proving how hot this album is and always will be. In the spirit of heat, we present; Del Maguey Mezcal and Galliano shaken with Caribbean falernum with a touch of homemade chili-sugar and aromatic bitters. #palazzoversacedubai #qsbarandlounge All prices are in UAE Dirhams and inclusive of 10% municipality fees and 10% service charge Q’S SIGNATURE COCKTAILS Roots 90 Quincy composed the theme to the dramatically successful miniseries, Roots, in 1977. The series began as a predicted flop, but ended up as a timeless hit, and the production and story has inspired filmmakers for generations. Proudly presenting a cocktail which is composed of ingredients that represent Quincy’s roots, African Amarula cream, Kraken rum and African Rooibos chai syrup, make for a taste of Africa. The Color Purple 90 A revolutionary picture that brought about the foundation of Oprah Winfrey and Whoopie Goldberg’s careers, Quincy Jones produced and composed the score to this famous and enduring film. A heady and herbaceous amalgamation of the essence of true Bourbon Rye and rouge vermouth with a tiny touch of cinnamon Syrup and a dash of cherry bitters. Walking in Space 245 A celebration of contemporary big band Jazz at the time, this 1969 album showcased Quincy’s love of horn splendor and rhythmic sophistication. An elegant combination of Chivas Ultis Whisky and Carpano Classico vermouth, harmoniously blended with Italian bitters. With its fresh tasting notes of citrus and orange from the atomizer, this is our ultimate ritual of serving a modern twist on the classic Boulevardier. #palazzoversacedubai #qsbarandlounge All prices are in UAE Dirhams and inclusive of 10% municipality fees and 10% service charge MOCKTAILS Dark Soul 45 Fresh raspberries, strawberry puree, blue agave syrup, pineapple juice and cinnamon The Record 45 Pomegranate juice, elderflower syrup, ginger beer, lavender - vanilla sugar and lime Dreamer 45 Lemon-mint, homemade almond syrup, granny smith apples and fresh blackberries Bossa Nova 45 Pineapple, Amarena wild cherry shrub, frozen rooibos tea and homemade falernum #palazzoversacedubai #qsbarandlounge All prices are in UAE Dirhams and inclusive of 10% municipality fees and 10% service charge CHAMPAGNE 125ml Bottle NV Ruinart 'R de Ruinart' Brut, Reims, Champagne, France 132 750 NV Ruinart Blanc de Blancs Brut, Reims, Champagne, France 1,250 NV Krug Grande Cuvée Brut, Reims, Champagne, France 3,650 2005 Dom Pérignon Brut, Épernay, Champagne, France 3,650 2006 Louis Roederer Cristal Brut, Reims, Champagne, France 5,300 NV Ruinart Rosé Brut, Reims, Champagne, France 1,250 NV Laurent-Perrier Cuvée Rosé Brut, Tours-sur-marne, Champagne, France 2,320 NV Krug Rosé Brut, Reims, Champagne, France 5,350 SPARKLING WINE Prosecco San Simone Spumante Il Concerto, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Italy 75 350 Ferrari Brut, Trento DOC, Trentino-Alto Adige, Italy 740 Bellavista, Cuvée Brut, Franciacorta DOCG, Lombardia, Italy 1,050 #palazzoversacedubai #qsbarandlounge All prices are in UAE Dirhams and inclusive of 10% municipality fees and 10% service charge WHITE WINES 150ml Bottle d'Arenberg, The Olive Grove Chardonnay 74 350 McLaren Vale, Australia La Scolca Oro, Gavi DOCG 83 395 Piedmont, Italy Parés Baltà, Blanc de Pacs 95 450 Penedes, Spain Stella Bella, Skuttlebutt Sauvignon Blanc Semillon 102 485 Margaret River, Australia Fantinel Borgo Tesis Pinot Grigio Friuli Grave 535 Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Italy Joseph Drouhin 'Drouhin-Vaudon' Chablis 690 Burgundy, France Domaine Doudeau-Leger Sancerre 790 Loire, France #palazzoversacedubai #qsbarandlounge All prices are in UAE Dirhams and inclusive of 10% municipality fees and 10% service charge WHITE WINES 150ml Bottle Pio Cesare L'Altro Chardonnay 845 Piedmont, Italy Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc 1,090 Marlborough, New Zealand Domaine Blain-Gagnard, Chassagne-Montrachet 1,630 Côte de Beaune, Burgundy, France ROSÉ WINES Nieddera Rosato, Contini 83 395 Sardinia, Italy Perrin-Pitt-Jolie, Miraval, Côtes de Provence 495 Provence, France La Scolca, Rosa Chiara Rose, Gavi DOCG 695 Piedmont, Italy #palazzoversacedubai #qsbarandlounge All prices are in UAE Dirhams and inclusive of 10% municipality fees and 10% service charge RED WINES 150ml Bottle Ruffino, Chianti DOCG 74 350 Tuscany, Italy Fetzer Valley Oaks Zinfandel 83 395 California, USA Fairview Pinotage 95 450 Paarl, South Africa Beaujolais- Villages, Louis Jadot 104 495 Beaujolais, France Bodegas Palacios Herencia Remondo, La Vendimia 520 Rioja DOCa, Spain Catena Malbec, Bodega Catena Zapata 600 Mendoza, Argentina #palazzoversacedubai #qsbarandlounge All prices are in UAE Dirhams and inclusive of 10% municipality fees and 10% service charge RED WINES Bottle Terra Sancta Mysterious Diggings Pinot Noir 665 Bannockburn, Central Otago, New Zealand M. ABSTRACT AFRICAN-AMERICAN STUDIES LACY, TRAVIS K. B.A. CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY DOMINGUEZ HILLS, 2000 "FUNK IS ITS OWN REWARD": AN ANALYSIS OF SELECTED LYRICS IN POPULAR FUNK MUSIC OF THE 1970s Advisor: Professor Daniel 0. Black Thesis dated July 2008 This research examined popular funk music as the social and political voice of African Americans during the era of the seventies. The objective of this research was to reveal the messages found in the lyrics as they commented on the climate of the times for African Americans of that era. A content analysis method was used to study the lyrics of popular funk music. This method allowed the researcher to scrutinize the lyrics in the context of their creation. When theories on the black vernacular and its historical roles found in African-American literature and music respectively were used in tandem with content analysis, it brought to light the voice of popular funk music of the seventies. This research will be useful in terms of using popular funk music as a tool to research the history of African Americans from the seventies to the present. The research herein concludes that popular funk music lyrics espoused the sentiments of the African-American community as it utilized a culturally familiar vernacular and prose to express the evolving sociopolitical themes amid the changing conditions of the seventies era. Dr. Drew McGukin had the initiative to bring me to the Honors Program in the first place.
