PSA SPRING 2014 FEATURED CELEBRITIES (In order of appearance) BENJAMIN BRATT is an American actor best known for his role in the TV series Law & Order, and for roles in movies Miss Congeniality, Demolition Man, Blood in Blood Out, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, Traffic, La Mission, Despicable Me 2 and Piñero. Benjamin has also been a long time supporter of environmental nonprofit Amazon Watch. LEONOR VARELA is a Chilean actress and activist, who’s family fled Chile’s Pinochet dictatorship when she was a child. She is best known for her roles in Cleopatra, Blade II, Innocent Voices and the TNT television series Dallas. Varela is also an avid environmentalist, partnering with NGOs such as WWF, Global Green USA, Oceana and Centro Ballena Azúl. DAWN OLIVIERI is a US born actress known for her roles in movies American Hustle, House of Lies and Hydra. She is also a Young Hollywood Board Member for the Environmental Media Association and supports Artist for Peace and Justice, Hope for Haiti and Greenpeace. RAPHAEL SBARGE was born into a theatre-oriented family in New York City and began his career at the age of five on Sesame Street. He is known for an array of films, theatre and television projects; most recently with ABC's Once Upon a Time, the highest-rated new television drama series. FRANCES FISHER is an actress, writer, singer, and activist best known for her performances in Unforgiven and Titanic. She is a Board Member for the Environmental Media Association. FRANCESCA EASTWOOD is an American actress, model, television personality and daughter of actress Frances Fisher and actor Clint Eastwood. She is a Young Hollywood Board Member for the Environmental Media Association. DARYL HANNAH is an American actress best known for the 80s hit movies Splash, Steel Magnolias and Wall Street. Hannah’s most notable recent role was that of a one-eyed assassin in Kill Bill. Hannah is a board member of the Environmental Media Association, Action Sports Environment Coalition and ecoAmerica and the co-founder of the Sustainable Biodiesel Alliance. ED BEGLEY JR. is an actor inspired by the work of his Academy Award-winning father and is an active environmental leader in the Hollywood community, serving on the boards of Green Wish, the Coalition For Clean Air, The Thoreau Institute, the Environmental Media Association and the advisory board of the Union Of Concerned Scientists. He’s also active with many other organizations and has authored several books on sustainable living. MICHELLE MONAGHAN currently stars in the hit TV thriller True Detective. She was also featured in Source Code, Machine Gun Preacher, Gone Baby Gone, Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol and Mission Impossible: II, Eagle Eye, Due Date and The Bourne Supremacy. She is an ambassador for the Unicorn Foundation. JARED LETO is an American actor, director, producer, singer-songwriter in the band 30 Seconds to Mars, activist, philanthropist, photographer and businessman. In 2014 he won an Oscar for his performance in the Dallas Buyers Club. She has been a supporter of Sea Shepherd organization since 2010. DEBI NOVA is a Costa Rican singer-songwriter and dancer who has sung in various projects from jazz artist Boney James to rapper Q-Tip to Sérgio Mendes and will.i.am of the Black Eyed Peas. Her hit single, "One Rhythm," has an English version, Spanish version and six mixes. She appeared on Dancing with the Stars in 2010 and has worked with Ricky Martin, with whom she recorded a Spanish version of the song "I Don't Care,” and as background vocals for Britney Spears in "Lace and Leather.” .

Gross Stanford University Elicitation Using Film Clips 2 Research on emotion has undergone explosive growth during the past few decades, marked by new theories (e.g., evolutionary analyses; Tooby & Cosmides, 1990), methods (e.g., anatomically-based systems for coding facial expressive behavior, see Cohn this volume), and findings (see Cacioppo & Gardner, 1999). Some of the research in this area has been correlational, focusing on factors that naturally co-vary with emotional processes, such as chronological age, physical health, or social status. However, experimental research also has flourished, focusing on emotional processes in the context of relatively well-controlled laboratory environments. Our chapter on the use of emotion-eliciting films, like many of the contributions to the Handbook of Emotion Elicitation and Assessment, lies squarely within this second, experimental tradition. Scientists who take an experimental approach have had at least two distinct motives for eliciting emotion. First, emotion has been used as an independent variable, in manipulations demonstrating the important contribution made by emotion to a diverse array of phenomena ranging from aggression (Zillman & Weaver, 1999) to helping behavior (Isen, Daubman, & Nowicki, 1987). Second, emotion has been used as a dependent – or outcome – variable, in work that has illuminated several emotion-related phenomena such as self-reported experience (Duclos & Laird, 2001), facial expressive behavior (Ekman, Friesen, & Ancoli, 1980), autonomic or central nervous system activation (LeDoux, 1996; Levenson, 1988), and individual differences in emotion responding (e.g., Gross, Sutton, & Ketelaar, 1998; Rottenberg, Kasch, Gross, & Gotlib, 2002).
