Duck Dodgers and the Return of the 24½Th Century Duck dodgers and the return of the 24½th century Continue Duck Dodgers and the Return of the 241/2th Century is a 1980 short film by Chuck Jones, Funny Melodies. The contents of the show plot of Duffy Duck reprises his famous role as the Ducks Dodgers in another parody of Saturday afternoon's space series. Appointed to find the rack and pinion molecules needed for yo-yo polish, the Dodgers and his assistant, want a young space cadet (Porky Pig), crashing their spaceship into a giant egg shell, where they find Marvin the Martian, who, as usual, plots to destroy Earth, in an attempt to solve the fuel problem. Marvin asks the Dodgers to visit Gossamer's boudoir, a giant, hairy monster in sneakers, and the terrified Dodgers run. Porky uses electronic clippers to literally cut Gossamer's neohost. The Dodgers, enraged by their teams' over-the-other interpretation of their team by their assistant, repeatedly fired their beam pistol into the back of the flogging. During the chase, when Porky asks what people on Earth will do without a rack and pinion molecules, the Dodgers simply say: Let them eat cake! The Availability of Streaming Notes Reformatted version of the following scenes were shortened when this cartoon was reformatted as a standalone animated short: the Dodgers tell Marvin he's under arrest. The Dodgers cite several spots in New York that he will miss after Marvin tells him about his plan to blow up The Earth. Porky uses a straitjacket to capture Marvin the Martian. The real ending is where Marvin (still wrapped in a straitjacket) sends his rocket to Earth and shoots it, then tells viewers that the rocket will take three days to reach Earth, giving everyone time to get their affairs in order before everyone gets destroyed (which explains It's All People! ending the map where Marvin Martin says: Don't worry, people. It's a continuation of the Dodgers' 241/2 century. It was the first cartoon by Duffy and Porky since 1965. This cartoon first aired on November 20, 1980 as part of an animated television special called Daffy Duck's Thanks-For-Giving with scenes that would later be cut when the cartoon was reformatted as short. Marvin asks the Dodgers to visit Gossamer's boudoir, a giant, hairy monster in sneakers, and the terrified Dodgers run. Porky uses electronic clippers to literally cut Gossamer in a simple way, and the Dodgers, enraged by their team's too-literal interpretation of his assistant, repeatedly shoots his beam pistol into porky's rear. • Tribute to Chuck Jones at the Museum of Modern Art. Animator
NO. 25 The Museum of Modern Art FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 11 West 53 Street, New York, N.Y. 10019 Tel. 956-6100 Cable: Modemart TRIBUTE TO CHUCK JONES AT THE MUSEUM OF MODERN ART ANIMATOR WILL BE PRESENT CHUCK JONES: THE YEARS AT WARNER BROTHERS, a special four-day program honoring this famous animator and director of such stars as Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, the Roadrunner, and Wile E. Coyote, will take place at The Museum of Modern Art from March 19 through March 22. The program includes a screening of 12 cartoons on Saturday, March 19 at noon, two showings on Sunday, March 20 at noon and 2:30 at which Mr. Jones will be present to discuss his work, and repeat showings of the Sunday programs on Monday, March 21 and Tuesday, March 22 at noon. The film programs, selected by Greg Ford, historian of the American an imated film, are designed to show Chuck Jones' development at Warner Brothers, where he was director of animation for 26 years. Jones began his career in a representational style heavily influences by Disney, but soon developed a more abstract, zanier style of cartooning, shown in "The Dover Boys" of 1942 with its lurched-tempo motion, and "The Aristo-Cat" of 1943 with its expression- istic backgrounds. It was during the fifties, however, while working with Warner's stable of cartoon stars, that Jones fully developed his style, based not on exaggeration but continual refinement. It is a "personality animation," according to Greg Ford, "marked by logical application of space, movement, and editing ideas, and by very subtle drawing that keenly deliniates character attitude." Among the films to be shown during this tribute are "What's Opera Doc," (1957), "Duck Amuck" (1953), "Ali-Baba Bunny" (1957) and "To Beep or Not to Beep" (1964).

  • July 26, 2013 Bugs Bunny and the NSO Come to Wolf Trap
July 26, 2013 Bugs Bunny and the NSO come to Wolf Trap By Roger Catlin For a generation of Americans, the earliest love of classical music came not through shared family symphony experiences or early childhood music appreciation classes, but through mayhem-laced TV cartoons, often involving a bunny in drag. Walt Disney may have taken the high road to classical music interpretation through some early Silly Symphony cartoons and “Fantasia” (which in its first run was a flop). But it was Warner Bros. and particularly the animators behind Bugs Bunny who may have been the most successful in drumming key classical passages into the heads of impressionable audiences when the studio’s theatrical cartoons of the 1940s and ’50s were incessantly replayed on TV in the ’60s. Warner Bros. - Still image from the 1950's Merrie Melodies short, “What's Opera, Doc?” Even today, the most serious gray-haired music lover, sitting in the world’s most august concert halls, may be listening to the timeless refrains of Rossini or Wagner only to have the phrase “Kill the Wabbit!” come to mind. Conductor George Daugherty has embraced this meld of classical knowledge and pop-culture conditioning and celebrates it in his “Bugs Bunny at the Symphony.” Its first tour, in 1990, was such a success that it spawned, as most successes in Hollywood do, a sequel. “Bugs Bunny at the Symphony II” comes to Wolf Trap on Thursday and Friday, with Daugherty conducting the National Symphony Orchestra. In its honor, we pause to hail the greatest uses of classical music by Warner Bros.
