C ontributors Elizabeth Brinsfieldhas worked as a spotlight operator in the circus, as a home health care assistant in Appalachia, and as a teacher at Navajo Prepatory School in Farmington, New Mexico. He lives in Missoula, Montana with his wife, the photographer Lucy Capeheart, and their two children, Turner and Nora. He teaches in the poetry-in-the-schools program in Anaheim, California. SYLVIA CLARK is currently a poet-in-residence with the Gray Panthers of Seattle, doing writing projects with older people. He is enjoying his newfound freedom by exploring personal expres sion through photography. “Experimenting with infrared B&W photography has forced me to think outside of the box.” Dan Chaon’sfirst collection of stories,Fitting Ends and Other Stories, was published in 1996 by Northwestern University Press; the title story was chosen for inclusionBest in American Short Stories, 1996. His work has appeared in many journals, including Ploughshares, Indiana ReviewandTriQuarterly, and he is now com pleting a second collection of stories. He is an instructor of art at The Putney School, of Putney, Vermont, where he also directs summer programs. -

The NEA is a public agency dedicated to supporting excellence in the arts, both new and established; bringing the arts to all Americans; and providing leadership in arts education.
