.12.2018 NATIONAL 107th Indian Science Congress.2018 started  The 107th edition of the Indian Science Congress is held at the University of Agricultural Sciences (UAS), Bengaluru. .11.2018  It is the ninth time that Bengaluru is hosting the annual convention.  The event was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.  The theme of the congress is „Science and Technology: Rural Development‟  For the first time, a Farmer‟s Science Congress will also be part of the event, providing a platform for innovative farmers. MEA Set up NEST Division to deal with new and emerging technologies  The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has set up New, Emerging and Strategic Technologies (NEST) division, as a nodal division within the ministry to deal with issues like new and emerging technologies.  NEST will help the country to collaborate with other countries in the field of 5G and artificial intelligence which are in line with India‟s security goals. KVIC Inaugurated its First Silk Processing Plant in Gujarat to Boost Patola Saree Production  The and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) inaugurated its first silk processing plant at Surendranagar in Gujarat on 03 January 2020, to cut cost, boost production of signature Patola Saree, as well as create livelihoods for women.  The plant has been set up by a khadi institution at a cost of Rs 75 lakh, in which KVIC has contributed Rs 60 lakh.  The newly set up silk plant would help cut down the cost of production of silk yarn drastically and hence increase the sale and availability of raw material used for manufacturing Gujarati „Patola‟ sarees locally. PM Modi Dedicated 5 Young Scientists Laboratories of DRDO to the Nation  Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi dedicated to the nation 5 Young Scientists Laboratories of Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) on 02 January 2020 from Bengaluru.  The 5 DRDO Young Scientist Laboratories (DYSLs) are located in five cities namely Bengaluru, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata and Hyderabad.  Each lab will work on a key advanced technology of importance to the development of futuristic defence systems such as, Artificial intelligence, Quantum technologies, Cognitive technologies, Asymmetric technologies and Smart materials. World’s Second Tallest Statue of Sardar Unveiled in Ahmedabad  Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani unveiled the second tallest statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel in the world at Ahmedabad.  The 50 feet tall bronze statue of Sardar Patel weighs 70 thousand kilograms and is located at the Sardardham campus near Vaishnodevi circle in Ahmedabad.  This is the second highest statue of India‟s first home home minister after the Statue of Unity (597 ft) 182 metres), situated at Kevadiya in Narmada district of Central Gujarat.  The world‟s tallest statue known as the „Statue of Unity‟ of Sardar Patel was built at Kevadiya in Narmada district of Central Gujarat. Its height is 182 meters (597 ft) and was built at a cost of Rs 3000 crores. ‘Cyber Safe Women’ initiative Launched by Maharashtra Government  The state government of Maharashtra Government has launched a „Cyber Safe Women‟ initiative to ensure that women and children do not fall prey to these cyber-criminal activities.  Under the initiative, various awareness camps will be held across all the districts of the state regarding cyber safety to help in educating women about how the web is used by anti-social elements and child predators to commit various types of crimes. Odisha Government Launched e-Gazette portal for Gazette notifications  The State Government of Odisha has launched an e-Gazette portal, a first-of-its-kind initiative in India, to make available the Gazette notifications from all state departments under one platform.

Indian Railways Launched.11.2018 Integrated Helpline Number 139  The Indian Railways has integrated all its helpline numbers into a single number, 139, to help its passengers in quick grievance redressal and enquiries during their train journeys.  The new helpline number 139 will take over all the existing helpline numbers (except 182). thereby making it easy for the passengers to remember the number and connect with Railways for all their needs during travel.  139 helpline will be available in twelve languages. Department of Heavy Industries sanctioned 2636 EV charging stations across the country  The Department of Heavy Industries had sanctioned 2636 EV (Electric Vehicles) charging stations in 62 cities across 24 State/UTs under FAME India (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles in India) scheme phase II to clean the mobility in Road Transport Sector. It aims to increase the electric vehicle users and also encourage Original Equipment Manufacturer‟s (OEM) to launch new electric models.  A total of 317 EV charging stations have been allotted in Maharashtra which is highest among 24 states. NEST division is formed by Ministry of External Affairs  The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has set up a New, Emerging and Strategic Technologies (NEST) division which helps to deal with new and emerging technologies. NEST helps to partner with 5G and artificial intelligence areas of other countries.  Under NEST, central government allows data sharing of various network makers in which Huawei shares its customer details with Chinese government under 5G trails. 30% of Poshan Abhiyaan funds used in 3 years  According to an analysis of the data shared by Minister for Women and Child Development (MoWCD) Smriti Irani in the Parliament, merely 30% of the PoshanAbhiyan funds have been used in 3 years.  Apart from Mizoram, Lakshadweep, Himachal Pradesh and Bihar, none of the state govt has used the fund granted to them in the past 3 years. INTERNATIONAL Paddlefish of China’s Yangtze River, declared as extinct  China has declared that the country‟s giant paddlefish often called as „Panda of the Yangtze river‟ or „Chinese swordfish‟ has become extinct. The extinction was reported due to decades of overfishing. DPIIT: FDI inflows rose 15% to $26 Bn in 1st half of FY2020; Singapore largest FDI source of India  According to the data released by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), the Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in India rose 15% to $26 billion in the first half of FY2020 (Fiscal year 2020). Singapore continued to be the largest source of FDI in India during the first half of FY2020 with $8 billion investments.
