For the implementation of the quota, Articles 15 and 16 of the Constitution will have to be amended. This would be availed by those whose annual income is below Rs 8 lakh and have up to five acres of land. The change was effective from January 12, 2019 by virtue of ‘Certificate of Incorporation pursuant to change of name‘ issued by the Registrar of Companies, Chennai. The penalty has been imposed on failure of the bank to follow the rules and regulation issued by the RBI. With the implementation of this new rule, Nepali citizens cannot carry these denominations to other countries except India and Nepali people are also not allowed to bring in such notes from other countries. ➢ Bihar State GDP Growth outshines nation’s growth: CRISIL As per a report published by CRISIL (Credit Rating Information Services of India Limited), Bihar has been ranked the Top State in terms of Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) by clocking a growth rate of 11.3 per cent in financial year 2017-2018. Focus i. Andhra Pradesh has been ranked at second spot with GSDP growth rate 11.2 per cent whereas Gujarat has been ranked at third spot with GSDP growth rate of 11.1 per cent. ii. ADB Bank bought this stake with a motive of attracting long -term funds from global lenders and investors. ADB’s investment increased Annapurna Finance’s net worth by 580 crores. ADB’s investment is considered to be the second equity investment following Oman India Joint Investment Fund (OIJIF) Rs 155-crore investment. ➢ RBI Penalised a total of Rs.5.2 Crore on Axis Bank, UCO Bank and Syndicate Bank for violation of norms On 5th February 2019,Axis Bank, UCO Bank and Syndicate Bank are Penalised with a total of Rs.5.2 Crore by RBI for violating the guidelines in regulatory compliance.The Segregation of the Penalised amount are as follows: Axis Bank and UCO Bank has been imposed with a Penalty of Rs.2 Crore each for their not commiting with the norms related to payment through cheques. Further Axis Bank has also imposed a Penalty of 20 Lakhs for the detection and impounding of counterfeit notes. Syndicate Bank is imposed with a Penalty of Rs.1 Crore for contradicting the norms in Checking norms and Risk Management. ➢ Government forecasted 7.5 per cent GDP growth in FY20 On 5th February 2019, the Economic Affairs Secretary, Subhash Chandra Garg said that the finance ministry is expecting the GDP growth to reach 7.5 per cent in 2019-20 from 7.2 per cent projected for the current fiscal. ➢ Fino Payments Bank and Suryoday Small Finance Bank come together to offer sweep account facility Fino Payments Bank (FPB) has joined hands with Suryoday Small Finance Bank in order to initiate sweep account facility. As per Reserve Bank of India, Payments banks can only take deposits upto ₹ 1 lakhs but this partnership will allow customer to seamlessly transfer the excess amount from their Fino payment bank (FPB) account to Suryoday Small Finance bank (SSFB) account. RBI levied fine on State Bank of India,by exercising its powers under Section 47 A of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949 . ➢ Asian Development Bank raised $100 million in international market On 8th February 2019, The Asian Development Bank raised $100 million from peso-linked bonds in the international market. It was their maiden issue of Philippine peso. The move will help to reduce foreign exchange risk for ADB’s borrowers and support its growing local currency lending operations in Philippines. J P Morgan was the sole lead manager and bonds were fully placed with institutional investors in Asia, Europe and the Americas. Earlier in 2005 and 2007 ADB issued bond in the Philippine domestic capital market but it was the first time to mobilize Philippine peso funding from international investors through a currency linked structure. ➢ RBI slaps Rs 1.5 crore fine on for fraud reporting delay On Feb. 8 2019, Allahabad Bank said the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has imposed a penalty of Rs 1.5 crore on them for not monitoring end use of funds, delay in classification and reporting of fraud and non-adherence with RBI guidelines during restructuring of accounts in respect of one of its borrowers. ➢ IRDAI imposes Rs 9 lakh fine on United India Insurance Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority has imposed a fine of Rs nine lakh on state-owned United India Insurance. Insurance regulator IRDAI,imposed a sum of 5 lakh imposed for violation of regulations such as assigning of surveyors and submitting reports,insurer offering a settlement to the insured as well as paying the claim to the insured. The balance 4 lakh – 1 lakh each was for violations of circular and guidelines on rates and discounts an insurer can offer . ➢ RBI imposes penalties on Various Banks for violating various norms The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has penalised various banks for not complying with various norms of RBI. The penalty was Rs 10 million for Andhra Bank and Rs 15 million each for others.Bank of Baroda and has imposed a penalty of Rs 1 crore each for violating various banking norms. ➢ Amazon launched ‘ UPI’ in collaboration with Axis Bank for Indian android users On 14th February 2019, Amazon in partnership with Axis Bank launched ‘Amazon Pay Unified Payment Interface (UPI)’ to facilitate secure payments and financial transactions on its platform. Amazon Pay UPI will be exclusively for Android users, where every customer will be able to use their Amazon Pay UPI ID to shop on Amazon.in, make payments including recharges and bill payments without entering bank credentials. Transactions held on Amazon is secured through mobile verification as well as with UPI pin. Customers can link their bank account with UPI pin. ➢ J P Morgan became First US Bank with Cryptocurrency On 14th February 2019, JP Morgan rolled out as the first US bank with cryptocurrency. The currency is designed to be decentralized so that no one has control over transactions being sent over the network. ➢ A Penalty of Rs 3.5 crore imposed on PNB, OBC and Bank of India by RBI On 14th February 2019, The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) imposed monetary penalty on three Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) banks due to deficiencies in regulatory compliance with the directions issued by RBI on monitoring end use of funds, information exchange with other banks and on restructuring of accounts. Oriental Bank of Commerce (OBC) - Rs 1.5 crore, Punjab National Bank (PNB)- Rs 1 crore, Bank of India- Rs 1 crore. ➢ RBI approved transfer of Rs 28,000 crore as interim dividend to the Government of India The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) decided to transfer Rs. 28,000 crore as interim dividend to the Government of India in the current Financial Year (FY) 2018-19, in order to enable the Centre to meet its revised fiscal deficit target of 3.4% of the GDP for FY19.Now, GoI have Rs 68,000 crore as dividend for the 2018-19 fiscal, as Rs 40,000 crore dividend was transferred to govt in August 2018. ➢ A deal of USD 1.5 billion signed by IOC to buy US crude oil Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), has signed its very first annual deal to buy U.S. crude oil, paying USD 1.5 billion for 60,000 barrels a day beginning April 2019 to March 2020 to diversify its crude sources. ➢ Capital Infusion of Rs. 48,239 Crore into 12 State-Run Banks On 19th February 2019, the Finance Ministry announced a capital infusion of Rs 48,239 crore in 12 public sector banks (PSBs). This has been done to enable them to meet their regulatory capital requirements and to increase the availability of credit for stronger lenders. The remaining Rs. 5,000 crore capital infusion would be used as buffer for any financial uncertainty or as a growth capital for the merger of BoB (Bank of Baroda), Dena Bank, Vijaya Bank. ➢ Zimbabwe Starts Trading New Currency RTGS dollar On 20th February 2019, Zimbabwe’s central bank announced the discontinuation of its official currency, quasi-currency bond note officially pegged at parity with the U.S. dollar and launched a new currency called RTGS dollars, to resolve a long-term monetary crisis. ➢ RBI formalised USD 75-billion swap pact with Bank of Japan The Reserve Bank of India (RBI)and the Bank of Japan formalised the USD 75- billion swap agreement, which would act as a cushion against any sharp swings in the local currency whenever the international financial markets turn volatile. i. It will enable the availability of USD 75-billion in foreign capital for use as and when the need arises, bringing greater stability to the foreign exchange and capital markets in India and serve as a second line of defence as India has about USD 398 billion foreign exchange reserves to cushion sudden dollar outflows. ➢ Corporation bank, Allahabad Bank and are out of PCA framework On 26th February 2019, the Board for Financial Supervision (BFS) of the Reserve Bank of India has removed 2 public sector banks- Corporation Bank and Allahabad Bank and 1 private sector bank – Dhanlaxmi Bank from PCA (Prompt Corrective Action) framework. According to BFS, Allahabad Bank and Corporation Bank had received Rs 6,896 crore and Rs 9,086 crore respectively which led to increase in their capital funds and also increased their loan loss provision. According to RBI, Dhanlaxmi bank was found to be not breaching any of the risk threshold of the PCA Framework, hence was removed out of the PCA Framework. ➢ RBI will infuse Rs. 37,500 Crore into the system through OMO On 26th February 2019, The Reserve Bank of India announced that in order to increase liquidity, it will infuse Rs. 37,500 crore into the system through purchase of government securities under Open Market Operations (OMOs) in February. The infusion will be made through three auctions of Rs 125 billion each during the 2nd, 3rd and 4th week. The aggregate amount will be Rs 375 billion.

The 8-member task force will aim to ensure stability of the external value of the domestic currency. The motive behind this is to develop deep and liquid on-shore financial markets that will act as a price setter of the Rupee globally. ➢ RBI slaps penalty of Rs. 11 crores on five banks for non-strengthening of ‘SWIFT’ related controls A penalty of the following amount has been imposed by the Reserve Bank of India on 4 PSU banks and 1 private sector bank: • Union Bank– Rs. 3 crores • Dena Bank– Rs. 2 crores • IDBI Bank– Rs. 1crore • Karnataka Bank– Rs. 4 crores The penalty has been imposed for the delay caused in following the guidelines mentioned in ‘Time bound implementation and strengthening of SWIFT related controls’ issued by the Reserve Bank of India on 20th February 2018. ➢ IDBI Bank categorized as Private Sector Lender by RBI On 14th March 2019, The Reserve Bank of India categorized IDBI Bank as a Private Sector Bank with effect from January 21, 2019 following Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) is acquiring 51 per cent of the total paid-up equity share capital of the bank. Following the appointment of MR Kumar as the Chairman of Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC), Hemant Bhargava ceases to be the Non-Executive chairman of IDBI Bank as he no longer heads the parent company LIC. I IDBI Bank has been under the Prompt Corrective Action (PCA) framework of RBI which bans it from corporate lending, branch expansions, salary hikes and other regular activities. II. IDBI has charted out a revival strategy to bring banking and insurance under one roof along with LIC. It aims to provide support for financing three solar photovoltaic power projects with a total capacity of 35 megawatts in the three provinces — Karawa, Mbandaka, and Lusambo. ➢ India’s GDP growth forecast trimmed to 6.8% for FY20 by Fitch Fitch rating in its Global Economic Outlook, has decreased the India’s economic growth forecast to 6.8% from 7% earlier for FY19-20 (1 April 2019 – 31 March 2020).
