The objective of this paper is to uncover the common characteristics of interest-based social networking services’ business models in order to understand the necessary building blocks that need to be present for a new service to function properly. Furthermore, it aims at giving managerial suggestions for companies that are planning to launch an interest-based social networking service. 1.1.1.2 Academic background and methodology The research in this paper is based on an extensive literature review on social networks, evolution of the internet, online social networks and their respective business models. The paper continues to examine the theory behind business models, which provides the grounds for choosing a business model framework that is used in the empirical part of the thesis. The empirical part of this paper is conducted as an observatory case study. The results of the empirical study are utilized to uncover the key characteristics of interest-based social networks and to provide general guidelines for new entrants that are launching a similar service. 1.1.1.3 Findings and conclusions The research shows that interest-based social networking services use the same technical and basic functions when it comes to the design and implementation of the platform. The services are built based on the user interest graph rather than on existing social connections that are imported from other services. This interest graph works as the basis of the services and is tightly linked to the underlying business model components. 1.1.1.8 Avainsanat Liiketoimintamalli, sosiaalinen verkosto, sosiaalinen media, arvolupaus, digitaalinen palvelu, digitaalinen media, ansaintamalli iii TABLE OF CONTENTS ABSTRACT • EDUCATOR COMMUNITIES of PRACTICE on TWITTER by JOHN
EDUCATOR COMMUNITIES OF PRACTICE ON TWITTER by JOHN MARK COLEMAN MARGARET L. RICE, COMMITTEE CHAIR BECKY ATKINSON ANGELA BENSON ALAN WEBB VIVIAN H. WRIGHT A DISSERTATION Submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in the Department of Educational Leadership, Policy and Technology Studies in the Graduate School of The University of Alabama TUSCALOOSA, ALABAMA 2018 Copyright John Mark Coleman 2018 ALL RIGHTS RESERVED ABSTRACT As Twitter became a popular platform for social networking, educators began to utilize the platform for professional networking. Educators began to utilize the hashtag #edchat to denote their ongoing and growing conversations on education subjects. Educational institutions began to require teachers to participate in the platform or granted continuing education credits for their participation. To determine if such sanction is merited, a qualitative exploration of the network of educators on the Twitter platform was performed. Three primary theories were used as a lens for exploration of the community. The first was social capital, where benefits are accrued by social interactions. Mark Granovetter’s strength of weak ties, where a community becomes linked by tangential relations of its members was the second lens for exploration. Finally, Etienne Wenger’s concept of the Community of Practice, where a body of collective knowledge and best practices emerge from a community gathered around a specific topic, was used to explore the network. Posts to Twitter containing the #edchat hashtag were collected and a survey instrument was disseminated with the #edchat hashtag. Collected posts and their linked content were coded according to their content.

  • Jameson Whiskey and Cannibalism Has Been Sucked!
Cold Open: Whiskey! Today’s suck is SOAKED in whiskey. Mostly - in Jameson - some Irish whiskey. A great drink for some fun times, kicking back, and enjoying the tastes of one of the best exports the Emerald Isle has to offer. Also a popular drink, in my experience, for people to torture you with by buying you shot after shot until you’re spinning and puking in the parking lot. Talking about Jameson will lead us, obviously, into talking about ….. cannibalism. Yup. John Jameson - the founder of Jameson - was originally a lawyer from Alloa [ah low uh] in Scotland before he founded his distillery in Dublin in 1780. In 1805, he was joined by his son John Jameson II who took over the family business. For the next 41 years, John Jameson Jr. built up the business before handing over to his son John Jameson the 3rd in 1851. They were killing it. By the turn of the 19th century, Jameson’s distilleries were the second largest producer in Ireland and one of the largest in the world, producing 1,000,000 gallons annually. Dublin at the time was the center of world whiskey production. It was the second most popular spirit in the world after rum and internationally Jameson had, by 1805, become the world's number one whiskey. And then, almost a century later, at the end 19th century, the Jameson name would get tarnished a wee bit when reports came back from the Congo that John’s great-grandson James S. Jameson paid to watch a young girl be killed and eaten.

Through the Institute, farmers and others involved in agriculture become familiar with new techniques and discoveries. CATI also serves to communicate the need and interests of agribusiness to those involved in the exploration and development of new agricultural technologies. CATI is located at California State University, Fresno (CSUF), in the heart of the "Agribusiness Capital of the World". Fresno County is the richest agricultural area in the country. It consistently ranks among the top producers of a wide variety of crops. This county reported a record $2.1 billion in gross returns on agricultural crops and livestock for 1985. Located in this center of agribusiness, CSUF has a 1,190 acre farm on its 1,490 acre campus. The farm produces almonds, grapes, tree fruit, citrus, vegetables, cotton, alfalfa, cereals and other crops on a commercial scale. It also provides fields and facilities for raising cattle, sheep, horses, goats and pigs. Some plots are devoted to ornamental horticulture, including turfgrass and flower culture. Agricultural mechanics, industrial technology, enology, laboratory and food science facilities expand the university*s role as an agribusiness community of its own. Multifuel Engine Research (MFER) was first formed as a program under the Agricultural Energy and Technology Project (AETP) sponsored by the California State Department of Agriculture.
